생명현상에 나타나는 반복과 확산에 의한 원(圓)의 조형성 연구

Abstract

자연은 생명이 살아있게 하는 근원으로, 작은 세계인 세포에서부터 광활한 우주를 총 망라한다. 이러한 우주 세계에 사는 우리는 자연의 일부분이라고 할 수 있으며, 자연은 끊임없는 생명현상을 통해 성장, 확산, 순환을 이루며 생명을 이어나간다. 우주의 모든 생명체는 하나의 작은 세포에서 시작된다. 이처럼 작은 구성요소가 수없이 모여 지구상의 생명체를 구성하고, 더 나아가 우주를 만들어간다는 것은 당연한 사실이자 대자연의 신비한 섭리라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 섭리의 생명현상 속에서 나타나는 미세한 변화는 우리의 육안으로 확인할 수 없지만 그 안에 내재한 본질적인 에너지는 우주를 형성할 만큼 방대할 것이다. 본 논문은 생명현상의 본질에 대해 이론적으로 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 형이상학적인 생명의 본질과 에너지를 나타내는 형태로 ‘원(圓)’의 상징 기호를 통해 조형적 작업을 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 원은 시작과 끝이 없는 무한함의 상징으로 영원성과 전체성 그리고 에너지의 근원을 의미하고, 또한 무한한 우주를 나타내며 만물이 소생하는 에너지의 근원적 형상이다. 연구내용 및 방법으로는 첫째, 문헌과 인터넷자료 조사를 통하여 생명에 대한 정의를 탐구하고 생명체의 구조와 형태를 생명현상의 기본단위인 세포의 구조를 통해 고찰하였으며, 세포의 생명현상에서 나타나는 에너지를 세포의 분열, 반복과 확산과정을 통하여 고찰하였다. 둘째, 생명현상의 형태연구로 반복과 확산을 통한 연구와 생명현상의 상징으로써 ‘원’형태를 연구하였다. 셋째, 위 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 ‘원’을 기본단위로 하여 형태의 중첩과 확산의 과정을 통해 생명에너지의 형상을 조형작업으로 표현하였다. 본 작업의 개념은 반복되고 확산되어 순환하는 생명현상의 에너지이며 작품은 총 8점의 작품으로 전개되었다. 본 작업들은 분열, 증식, 확산, 소멸, 재생의 자기조직화를 반복하는 생명현상의 과정과 에너지의 흐름을 나타낸다. 작품 1과 2는 분열하는 세포의 형상을 모티프로 작업하였으며 작품 3은 세포의 생명현상에서의 에너지대사 과정을, 작품 4와 5는 세포의 증식하고 팽창하여 퍼져나가 자연을 구성하는 생명에너지의 확산현상을 나타내었으며 작품 6과 7에서는 생명의 발생에서 폭발적으로 방출되는 찰나의 에너지를 담고자 하였다. 마지막 작품 8에서는 탄생과 소멸 과정을 형상화하면서 순환하는 생명에너지의 흐름을 나타내었다. 생명의 특성을 표현하기 위해 투명한 염화비닐수지(PVC), OHP필름, 아크릴, 노방, 물을 사용하였다. 염화비닐수지는 작품 1, 2, 3, 7 에 사용되었으며 생명현상에서 보여지는 세포막의 대용물로 간주하였고 중첩된 레이어들의 상호작용을 통해서 에너지의 교류를 일으키는 효과를 의도하였다. 작품 4, 5 에서는 캔버스에 폴리에스테르 노방을 여러번 중첩하였는데 이는 생명체의 미세한 움직임을 나타내기 위함이었다. 마지막으로 작품 8은 아크릴 상자 안에 물을 담고 OHP필름을 담는 방법을 택하여 빛에 의한 굴절을 통한 이미지의 왜곡을 나타내었다. 또한 이러한 소재의 작업들을 설치하는 과정에서 투명소재를 겹침으로서 중첩시키는 방식과 중력에 의한 형태 변형과 왜곡이 작품의 생명체적 시각 효과를 의도한 것이다. 색채의 사용에 있어서는 자연의 채도 높고 다채로운 색상들을 선택하여 살아있는 생명체의 에너지를 표현하였다. 본 연구와 작품제작을 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 생명에 대한 이론적 고찰과 생명체구조에 대한 연구를 통해 형이상학적인 생명의 본질을 나타내는 상징기호로서 ‘원’의 형태를 도출해 낼 수 있었다. 둘째, 생명현상의 기본단위인 세포의 생명활동으로써 분열, 확산, 재생성되는 일련의 과정을 ‘반복과 확산’이라는 표현방식을 통해 생명의 순환성, 끊임없이 분열, 증식, 성장하는 동적 이미지와 광활한 우주의 에너지형상을 나타낼수 있었다. 셋째, 중첩하여 설치된 본 연구자의 작업을 통해 여러막으로 이루어져 선택적 투과를 하는 세포의 특성을 형상화할 수 있었다. 시간에 따른 늘어짐과 겹쳐진 이미지를 왜곡시키는 효과를 통해 시간에 따라 변화하는 생명체의 시간성을 형상화할 수 있었으며 유기적 형태와 생동감, 가변적인 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 생명의 본질에 대한 깊은 통찰을 통하여 생명현상을 조형적 작품으로 표현 할 수 있었고, ‘원’의 형태를 통해 생명체의 무한한 연결성, 끊임없이 움직이는 생명현상의 동적인 이미지와 우주의 순환구조를 표현할 수 있었다. 앞으로 본 연구자는 이를 바탕으로 더욱 발전적인 조형 작업을 전개시켜 나가고자 한다.;As the nature is the root of human life, it means the space we belong to, all from tiny unit of cell to the immense universe. Therefore we are part of nature, the nature continues life by growth, proliferation and circulation through the vital phenomenon. All creation of the universe start from a tiny cell. This tiny structural elements makes creations of the earth, furthermore it is certain truth and miraculous providence to make the universe as well. The microscopic mutation of vital phenomenon in miraculous providence must be immense as formation of the universe by natural energy even though we can not recognize them. This study is based on theoretical study about substance of vital phenomenon and purposed to work on formative arts symbolically about a 'circle' which is based on substance of vital phenomenon as the form of metaphysical lifespring. A circle as symbol of infinity it means eternity, totality and basis of energy, and it expresses infinite space and a lively motion of nature. The contents of study are the first, it is a study about the definition of the life and structure and form of creation which is in cell as basic unit, energy of the vital phenomenon through the process of growth, proliferation and circulation of cell. The second, it is a study about repetition and proliferation of vital phenomenon and circle form as symbol of life. The third, it is a expression and artwork of vital phenomenon through the process of overlapping and proliferation based on circle form theoretical understanding. Concept of the work is developed by 'repetition, proliferation and rotation of vital energy' as eight works all. These works express their processes of growth, increase, extinction and repetition of regeneration in vital phenomenon and the flow of energy. Work 1 and 2 are expressed motif of cell's form, work 3 is about the process of energy metabolism in vital phenomenon, work 4 and 5 are expressed a proliferation phenomenon by natural increase and expansion of cell, work 6 and 7 are expressed a moment of explosion and energy in life generation. The last work 8 is expressed the form of birth and extinction, and the flow of circulatory vital energy. The method of making is printing on transparent materials for formative interpretation of vital phenomenon. PVC materials is suitable for expression of extension by weight and gravity and organic form by change of times, polyester is used for expression of imperceptible movement in cellular tissue. Furthermore, transparent OHP film, acrylic and water were used for work. Transparent materials are very important to express the essential characters and interaction of life, and to be layered for distortion of form in the air in method. For the expression of vital characteristic, transparent materials which are PVC, OHP film, acrylic, polyester, Nobang and water are used. PVC materials are used for work 1, 2, 3 and 7, it is considered the substitute for cell membrane and the effect of energy interactions by layer of materials. Polyester and Nobang materials are used and layed on canvas for work 4 and 5 to express imperceptible movement of vital creation. For the last work 8, OHP film in a acrylic box which is fill of water express image distortion by refraction of light. Furthermore, in the layed process of installation these materials and works, I try to intend visual effects of the vital phenomenon which are form transform and distortion by the law of gravitation. I also use various natural and high chroma colours to express vital energy. Following is the conclusion reached through the work that was produced by such process. The first, in formalizing the process of life through the form of circle, the essence of life can be represented effectively through researcher's intuitive and empirical viewpoint and understanding on life. The second, expression of 'repetition and proliferation' could be presented growth, increase, extinction and repetition of regeneration in vital phenomenon of cellular life, and be formed movement of the universe and vital energy. The third, using of transparent materials are free and flexible enough to transform enables representation of the layered and distortion characteristics of the cellular form. The transparent materials can produce various shapes at will in the process of organic form and movement through change of times. In conclusion, I research the serise of process of the whole creation in cell structure, represented the image of repetition and proliferation through circle form with the theme of the vital phenomenon, I could express the examination of life and the subjective thought of the movement of the universe and vital phenomenon through formative work as a visual expression of the essence. I determined to develop my own formative work based on this significant study from this time forward.
