예술 고등학교 음악과 학생들의 진로의식 및 진로교육 경험에 관한 연구

Abstract

A purpose of this research was to investigate career awareness of music students in arts high schools and understand their experiences regarding career education at schools. The research methods were in-depth interview and nonparticipant observation. There were six participants including four 12th grades and two 13th grades from Seoul, Gyounggi, Incheon and Daejeon arts high schools. The participants were interviewed on average of 60-90 minutes and to observe correct career education experiences in arts high schools, two career mentoring classes were observed. The research results were as follows. Firstly, the result showed that motivation to decide music as their major was highly affected by one’s family environment and mass media. To teenagers who are in the most sensitive period of deciding their career, information delivered through image media greatly influence on making a decision of one’s career. Therefore, when students collect information, it is vital to nurture rational decisive ability to make proper career decision that suits to them. Secondly, most students had worries in their career and were experiencing difficulty in deciding career, lacking career information, having burdens in both academic and music performance grades for further musical career. This is because of limited career information available to students. To resolve this problem, the opportunity to search for a proper career that suits one’s aptitude and understanding of various careers should be provided. Thirdly, the result showed that there is the positive influence of personal music instructor not only on music performance but also on becoming as a role model of students. Therefore, schools should support personal music instructors by providing various career information, seminar and educations related to students’ career so more effective counselling on students’ career worries could be provided. Fourthly, Activities like a music concert, a master class, a choir, an orchestra in their major classes provide students with opportunities to experience their future careers. Some students found a career that suits their aptitude and some of them were in a process of correcting career plan as their original plan does not fit their aptitude. Arts schools should diversify more with work-study experiences in career education so students can broaden their career choices. Lastly, the participants preferred individual guidance and counselling over collective lectures or lessons to decide and develop their career. Specific methods may be a mentoring system that satisfies individual needs according to one’s aptitude and a counselling with a professional counsellor. A significance of this research lies in awakening importance of career education by analyzing arts high school students’ career awareness and career education experience, and providing a desirable career education direction.;본 연구의 목적은 예술 고등학교 음악과 학생들의 진로의식을 탐색하고 그들이 학교 내에서 경험한 진로교육에 대하여 심층적으로 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 질적 연구 방법 중 심층면담과 비 참여관찰을 사용하여 각 개인의 상황과 환경에 따라서 다양하게 나타날 수 있는 진로의식 및 경험을 탐색 하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구 참여자는 서울·경기·인천·대전 소재의 예술 고등학교 학생으로서 총 7명의 2·3학년 학생들이다. 이들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 1회 진행하였고 면담 시간은 평균 60분에서 90분 정도 소요되었다. 또한 현재 예술 고등학교에서 이루어지고 있는 진로교육의 실제적인 현장을 관찰하기 위하여 서울 소재 예술 고등학교의 진로 멘토링 수업을 2차시 비 참여 관찰 하였다. 예술 고등학교 학생들의 진로의식과 진로교육 경험에 대한 연구 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예술 고등학교 음악과 학생들은 자신의 전공을 결정하게 된 계기에 있어서 가정환경의 영향과 매체의 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 진로 설정에 가장 민감한 시기에 있는 청소년들에게 영상매체를 통하여 전달되는 정보들은 큰 영향력을 끼친다. 따라서 이들이 다양한 정보를 수용할 때 자신에게 필요한 진로정보를 적절히 선택할 수 있도록 합리적이고 이성적인 판단 능력을 길러주어야 함을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 대다수의 학생들은 자신의 진로에 대한 고민을 가지고 있었는데 진로고민의 내용은 진로결정의 어려움, 진로정보의 부족, 대학 진학을 위한 실기 및 학업 성적에 대한 부담 등으로 나타났다. 이는 예술 고등학교 학생들이 가지고 있는 한정된 직업 정보에 의한 것으로 이를 해결하기 위해서는 다양한 직업 정보에 대한 이해와 자신의 적성에 알맞은 진로를 탐색할 수 있는 기회가 제공되어야 할 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 개인 실기 선생님은 예술 고등학교 학생들에게 단순히 음악의 기술적인 면을 지도해 주는 역할 뿐만 아니라 학생들의 롤 모델의 대상이 됨으로써 진로 준비과정에 있어 긍정적인 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 학교에서는 실기 선생님들을 대상으로 한 진로 관련 세미나 및 교육을 실시하고 다양한 진로 정보를 제공하여 실기선생님을 통하여 학생들의 진로고민에 대한 해결이 보다 효과적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 지원하여야 한다. 넷째, 예술 고등학교 음악과 학생들은 전공수업시간에 향상음악회, 마스터 클래스, 합창 및 오케스트라 활동 등을 통하여 연주가, 교육가, 합창단원, 오케스트라 단원 등의 미래 자신이 가지게 될 직업들을 미리 체험해보는 경험을 하고 있었다. 따라서 예술 고등학교에서는 이러한 체험학습 형태의 진로교육을 더욱 다양화 시켜 학생들이 자신의 진로에 대한 선택과 결정을 보다 폭넓게 할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 다섯째, 예술 고등학교 음악과 학생들은 자신의 진로를 선택하고 발전 시켜 나가는 데에 있어서 집단으로 이루어지는 강의·수업의 형태 보다는 개별적인 지도와 상담을 받기를 희망하였다. 이에 따른 구체적인 방법으로는 각 개인의 특성에 맞추어 학생들의 개별적 필요를 충족시키는 멘토링 제도의 운영이나 전문 상담 교사의 상담 등이 있을 것이다. 이상의 연구결과를 종합해 본 결과 본 연구는 예술 고등학교 학생들의 진로의식 및 진로교육 경험을 분석하여 진로교육의 중요성을 환기시키고 바람직한 진로교육의 방향을 제시할 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
