Abstract
The purpose of this portfolio is to integrate Extensive Reading (ER) in a Korean EFL classroom for elementary school students. The primary goal is to help them to discover the joy of reading while at the same time helping them to develop their English language skills. Moreover, as students read interesting stories, they are able to learn about culture and history at the same time. Although studies have shown that ER has many benefits for L2 learners, it is difficult to implement an ER program in most Korean schools. Therefore, this portfolio will provide an opportunity for Korean elementary school students to engage in ER activities in an afterschool program. As they read fun and interesting books in English, they will not only improve their English language skills, but they will develop their critical thinking skills. The target students are third graders and their proficiency level is 3-4 according to the WIDA. This textbook will be used in an afterschool ER program for 12 boys and girls. The textbook will include communicative activities which will help the students to develop the four skills in English. Students will not only learn to read and comprehend the story, but the will develop their communicative skills through various kinds of activities.
