César Franck의 Violin Sonata in A Major에 관한 연구 분석

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업연주 작품 중에서 세자르 프랑크(César Auguste Jean Guillaume Hubert Franck, 1822-1890)의 Violin Sonata in A Major에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 세자르 프랑크는 19세기 프랑스의 대표적인 작곡가이자 종교 음악가, 오르가니스트, 또 훌륭한 교육자로서 후기 낭만시대에 있어 프랑스 순수 기악음악의 발전을 이끌었다. 그는 독일 음악과 프랑스 음악의 융합을 추구했으며 이를 바탕으로 빈번한 조성의 변화, 반음계적 진행, 리듬의 확대와 축소, 대위법적 기법, 순환형식 등 고전적 음악 양식과 낭만적 음악 요소를 적절히 접목시켰다. 프랑크의 유일한 소나타 작품인 바이올린 소나타는 그의 후기 창작기 중 대표적인 작품으로 여겨지며 베토벤과 브람스의 바이올린 소나타 작품과 함께 3대 바이올린 소나타로 꼽힌다. 그의 독특한 작곡 기법이 여실히 드러나는 이 곡은 전체 4악장으로 구성되어 있으며 각 악장의 주제로 이루어진 3개의 순환동기가 밀접하게 반복, 결합, 변형되어 곡에 있어서 전체적인 통일성을 부여하며 조성 구조 또한 단순한 구조가 아닌 3도 관계조를 취하여 후기 낭만주의 작품의 색체적인 화성과 자유로운 전조로 이루어지는 특징을 보여주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 프랑크 Violin Sonata in A Major의 이해를 위해 당시 시대적 배경과 프랑크의 생애, 그리고 그의 작품의 음악적 특징을 연구하고 더 나아가 각 악장별로 분석하여 이해에 도움을 주고자 한다.;As a composer, organist, educator, and sacred musician representing the 19th century of French music, César Franck helped develop pure instrumental music of France in the post-romantic times. He tried to combine German and French music, through which he integrated romantic musical factors and classical musical factors, such as frequent changes of tonality, chromatic progression, the expansion and reduce of rhythm, contrapuntal technique, and cyclic form, appropriately. As the only piece of violin sonata that he composed, Violin Sonata in A Major was composed when he finally became acknowledged, and given to Eugéne Ysaÿe, a violinist and composer, as a wedding gift. This piece seemingly follows sonata format of four movements in the classical tradition with his own musical style, however, in detail, he also embodied the romantic factors by utilizing chromatic progression of melody and chord, ambiguity of tonality, and cyclic motif. Cyclic motif, distinct feature of his language in his music, is also expressed clearly in the piece. Using cyclic motif, he could maintain the feature of each movement of the piece and achieve the unity of the piece. Moreover, he set the simple melody used as the motif to sway the whole piece based on the relation between constant counterpoint of the violin and the piano and emulation, which is also distinct feature of his. For a deep understanding, this paper analyzes the historical background of his time, Cézar Franck’s biography, the features of his pieces, and especially offer the analysis of each movement of the piece for wide comprehension.
