Samuel Barber의 Cello Sonata Op.6 분석 연구

Abstract

본 논문에서는 20세기 미국의 작곡가인 ‘사무엘 바버 (Samuel Barber, 1910-1981)'의 생애와 첼로 소나타 작품 6 (Cello Sonata Op.6)이 작곡된 배경을 알아보고, 나아가 곡을 상세히 분석하여 그 안에 나타난 음악적 특징에 대하여 연구하였다. 20세기 초의 미국 음악은 재즈와 함께 불협화적인 특성, 민족주의와 신고전주의, 반음계주의, 표현주의 등의 여러 가지 경향이 나타나게 된다. 그 시대의 많은 작곡가들 중 다수가 과거에서 완전히 벗어나지는 않은 채 독특한 형식을 발전시켰는데, 그것을 일컫는‘신낭만주의’는 대위법적 기법을 중심으로 바로크 시대의 형식과 고전시대의 옛 음악의 형식들을 차용하였다. 신낭만주의를 따르는 작곡가들이 반드시 그런 경향을 보이는 것은 아니었지만 그들의 음악을 특정 짓는 것은 대개 조성이나 신조성이었다. 다양한 청중과 소통하고자 했던 이 작곡가들은 쉽게 식별할 수 있는 주제, 즉시 알아차릴 수 있는 형식 그리고 표제적인 주제나 제목을 사용하여 청자들에게 이해의 실마리를 제공했다. 가장 성공적인 작곡가들은 음악가들이 한 번에 그치는 것이 아니라 반복해서 연주하기를 바라는 작품들을 창작함으로써, 연주자들이 그들의 음악을 옹호하는 활동을 하도록 고취시키는 비결을 발견하기도 했다. 이 때 조성에 전념한 미국 작곡가들 가운데 가장 큰 성공을 거둔 이들 중 하나로‘사무엘 바버’를 들 수 있는데, 바버의 조성적 낭만주의는 그의 어떠한 음악에도 충분히 표현되어 있으며 또한 그는 전통적인 방식들만을 사용함에도 불구하고 그 어떤 음악과도 다른 참신한 소리를 가진 음악을 작곡했다. ;The purpose of this research is to look over the life of Barber and the composed background of Cello Sonata Op.6 which is his first sonata, and to research a tendency of work and a performing technique of Samuel Barber shown on the composition based on an analysis of this composition. Barber is one of the American composers who concentrated on creation in 20th century and made a great success, he as a neoromantic was influenced by the composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Sibelius etc. and he wished to show romanticism, beautiful emotion etc. in his compositions. This composition as his first composition and sole cello sonata is a very important composition which greatly influenced on both of his life as a composers and his personal life. Barber’s musical character on this composition is that the traditional tendency was shown in the aspect of formality, but lyrical and romantic melody, chromatics scales etc. was used much in the aspect of melody and harmonic scales. This composition is his transitional composition which includes both of an initial technique using a traditional method and a mellowed style which became more matured as he moved into the latter part, and includes the factors having the modern technique and the lyricism coincidently, which is a unique character of Barber. I as an author provide with an integrated constructive analysis and a descriptive analysis on Cello Sonata Op.6 of Samuel Barber. And I access to a tendency of work and a performing technique of Samuel Barber based on this analysis. I as an author wish that the analysis on the composed background of Cello Sonata Op.6 and the musical character of Barber showed on this composition would be newly introduced to the musical players. I believe that it will increase cognition of the value of this composition musically and historically to both of the musical players and the scholars, and it will be the method of emphasizing Cello Sonata Op.6 which is an initial composition of Samuel Barber, one of the most great the American composers in 21st century.
