Abstract
라흐마니노프는 말년에 마지막 작품으로 <코렐리 주제에 의한 변주곡>(Variations On A Theme Of Corelli) 작품 42(1931), 관현악과 피아노를 위한 <파가니니 주제에 의한 광시곡>(Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini) 작품 43(1934)을 작곡했다. Sergey Rachmaninoff(1873-1943) is a pianist, composer and conductor who represents the late Romantic Music in Russia. Given that he emphasized Romanticism and avoided the predominant features of modern music at that time, such as atonality, dodecaphony, he is regarded to occupy a unique position in the 20th century piano literature. Rachmaninoff composed (1931), (1934) arranged for violin with piano as his last pieces in his later years. Considering that his piano pieces in his later years were under the themes of Corelli and Paganini, it can be assumed that Rachmaninoff were interested in violin and hugely affected by the musical instrument. In particular, directly used the melody of “La Folia”, (1700), one of the most representative pieces of Arcangelo Corelli(1653-1713). He also dedicated the piece to Fritz Kreisler(1875-1962), an American Violinist from Austria, who was a noticeable composer and pianist. He created bold, sophisticated piano music with diverse and delicate expressions based on creative and liberal format under Corelli's melody of violin sonata, “La Folia”. Unlike the distinct natures from his entire piano music in general, highly resembled the original music composed in the Baroque period, since it had the characteristics of the well-organized and reflective aspects of his later years. However, the existing studies on were mainly focused on music analysis, variation technique, pedaling. The exploration and investigation on Corelli violin sonata as the original piece were not sufficiently conducted, only with the emphasis on the pianistic part of Rachmaninoff. Therefore, this study attempted to examine the influences of the original piece and the characteristics of string instruments as well as the pianistic part of by Rachmaninoff. For this purpose, this study periodically analyzed his life and examined his friendship with Kreisler, the violin player to whom Rachmaninoff dedicated the piece and the overall natures of his piano music. Then, this study also presented how Rachmaninoff in the late Romanticism reorganized the piece from the Baroque period and reflected the characteristics of the original piece by suggesting the life of Corelli and the frame of the original music of violin sonata in novel ways.
