쟝미셸 바스키아(Jean-Michel Basquiat)의 회화를 응용한 피혁패션디자인 연구

Abstract

In modern society, fashion is a creative field in pursuit of novelty through collaboration with other arts and has expanded its area having organic relationships with a variety of artistic fields such as painting, sculpture, architecture and so on. Recently, designers have introduced pictorial characteristics into designing, reconstituted them by their own unique patterns and texture expressing techniques in materials, and evolved into endlessly new designing emotions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to utilize the paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat, a graffiti artist, into a motif in fashion design. The paintings of Basquiat consist of symbolic patterns, bold and rough lines, exaggerated forms, and intense colors and therefore are easy to utilize a motif of design, and these elements have appropriate conditions for free expression techniques. We want to use the technique of collage and stitching among leather expression techniques to represent the sense of rich surface and cubic effect and to do a drawing expression by cutting a leather with an image of flat scribbled painting expressed in only outlining lines by using the point that any strands do not loosen when having cut the cross-section of a leather and the strength of being able to express a variety of sense of texture with various colors and materials. We will utilize mainly primary colors strong in contrast as the colorful character of Basquiat’s painting and select a white color contrasted with a black color, appearing frequently, in saturation in order to represent Basquiat, an African American. Through this, we try to fabricate a design of leather cloth in simple silhouettes which can maximize an aesthetic sense of motif. The purpose of this study is to reconstitute the symbol, type and color appearing in Basquiat’s paintings and expand the area of the leather fashion design by fabricating a cloth by way of utilizing the expressing technique of leather. In the content and method of this study, we investigate the formative feature of Jean-Michel Basquiat’ painting works through review of literature, analyze the formativeness for line, type, and color, and then apply the characteristics to a motif. In addition, we investigate the examples of modern fashion applying Basquiat’s paintings. Then, we determine the definition and characteristic of leather and examine the history and current status of the leather fashion design. On the basis of the expressing technique in leather cloth, we examine the relationship to modern fashion via collections. Relying on this, we try to fabricate 6 pairs in leather cloth by blending the collage and stitching technique with the design of this study which reinterpreting a rough linear motif of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The conclusion was obtained by this study as follows: First, we could express the sensitive sense of dynamic and free image in Basquiat’s paintings as a result of expressing the pure linear expressivity like a child, appearing in Basquiat’s paintings, with a leather strap and a stitching technique. Second, in colors of the works, the primitiveness retained by Basiquiat’s paintings could be embodied by expressing strong light and darkness contrast, color contrast, and saturation contrast as a result of using primary colors such as black and white, red, yellow, blue, and green colors which are central colors in Basquiat’s paintings. Third, the effect of rich surface and the sense of surface could reveal by applying the collage technique to leather materials in Basquiat’s flat paintings. Fourth, we could know that utilizing the cut-shape of sheepskin in the ends of cloth was consistent with linear images appearing the rough drawing of Basquiat’s paintings. This study intended to reinterpret the formative beautifulness in Basquiat’s paintings as a motif reflecting into fashion design and wanted to fabricate in leather fashion by applying the technique of collage and stitching. We confirmed that through this, rough linear expression and intense primary color shapes could be a source of giving inspiration as a motif to modern fashion, and may expect that if the leather material would develop continuously, a variety of motif would embodied by designers, and the expressing technique of leather would be applied, then an individualistic and creative area of leather fashion can be pioneered possibly.;현대 사회에서 패션은 다른 예술과의 협업을 통해 새로움을 추구해내는 독창적인 분야로, 회화, 조각, 건축 등 다양한 예술 분야와 유기적인 관계를 가지며 영역을 확대하고 있다. 최근 들어 디자이너들은 회화적 특성을 디자인에 도입하여 자신만의 독특한 문양과 소재의 질감표현기법으로 재구성하고 끊임없이 새로운 디자인적 감성으로 발전되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 그래피티 아트작가 쟝미셸 바스키아의 회화작품을 패션디자인에 모티프로 활용하고자 한다. 바스키아 회화는 상징적 문양, 굵고 거친 선, 과장된 형태, 강렬한 색채로 이루어져 있어 디자인의 모티프 활용에 용이하고 이러한 요소는 자유로운 표현기법으로 적합한 조건을 갖추고 있다. 풍부한 표면감과 입체감을 나타내기 위해 가죽 표현기법 중 꼴라쥬와 스티칭 기법을 사용하고자 한다. 가죽의 단면을 잘랐을 때 올이 풀리지 않는 점과 다양한 색상과 소재로 다채로운 재질감을 표현할 수 있는 강점을 이용하여 윤곽선만으로 표현된 평면적인 낙서회화 이미지에 가죽을 잘라 드로잉 표현을 하고자 한다. 색채로는 바스키아 회화의 색채적 특징인 컨트라스트가 강한 원색을 주로 활용하고, 흑인인 바스키아를 나타내기 위해 자주 등장한 검정색과 채도 대비가 되는 흰색을 선택하고자 한다. 이를 통해 모티프의 미적 감각을 극대화 시킬 수 있는 심플한 실루엣으로 피혁의상 디자인을 제작하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 바스키아의 회화에 나타난 상징과 형태 및 색채를 재구성하고 이를 피혁 표현기법을 활용하여 의상을 제작함으로써 피혁 패션 디자인의 영역을 확대하는 것이다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 문헌 고찰을 통하여 쟝미셸 바스키아 회화작품의 조형적 특성을 알아본 후, 조형성을 선과형, 색채로 분석하고, 그 특성을 모티프로 적용하고자 한다. 바스키아의 회화작품을 응용한 현대 패션사례를 디자이너별로 살펴본다. 피혁의 정의와 종류를 알아보고 피혁 패션디자인의 역사와 현황의 대해 조사한다. 피혁의상의 표현기법을 바탕으로 한 현대 패션에 관계를 컬렉션을 통해 알아본다. 이를 토대로 쟝미셸 바스키아의 거친 선적 모티프를 재해석한 본 연구자의 디자인과 꼴라쥬와 스티칭 기법을 융합하여 피혁의상 6벌을 제작하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 바스키아 회화에 타난 어린아이와 같은 순수한 선적 표현성을 가죽 끈과 스티치 기법을 통해 표현한 결과 바스키아 회화의 섬세한 역동감과 자유로운 이미지를 표출 시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 작품의 색채에 있어서는 바스키아 회화의 중심색채인 검정과 흰색, 빨강, 노랑, 파랑, 초록 등의 원색을 사용한 결과 강력한 명암대비, 색상대비, 채도대비 등이 표출되어 바스키아 작품이 지닌 원시성이 구현될 수 있었다. 셋째, 바스키아의 평면적인 회화를 가죽 재료에 꼴라쥬 기법을 활용하여 풍부한 표면효과와 구조적 표면감을 나타낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 양피의 컷팅된 모양을 의상의 끝단으로 활용하여 바스키아 회화의 거친 드로잉에 나타난 선적 이미지들과 부합됨을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 바스키아 회화의 조형미를 패션디자인에 반영하는 모티프로 재해석하고자 하였으며 꼴라쥬와 스티칭 기법을 응용해 피혁패션 으로 제작하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 바스키아 만의 거친 선 적 표현, 강렬한 원색 형상들이 현대 패션에 모티프로 영감을 주는 원천이 될 수 있음을 확인하였고, 끊임없는 피혁 소재 발달, 디자이너들의 다양한 모티프 구현과 피혁 표현기법이 적용된다면 개성 있고 독창적인 피혁패션의 영역이 개척될 가능성을 볼 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
