로버트 마더웰(Robert Motherwell)의 서체추상화의 조형성을 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

패션 일러스트레이션은 패션의 이미지를 시각적으로 표출하고 전달하는 장르이다. 이는 주로 2차원적 혹은 부조적 방식으로 표현하는데 패션 혹은 드로잉에 머무르지 않고 예술의 경지에서 그 표현의 세계를 확대해 나가고 있으며 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 다양한 소재와 표현방법으로 구현되고 있는 패션 일러스트레이션을 의상에 표현함으로서 입체성과 평면성을 동시에 부여하고자 한다. 패션은 신체를 보호하는 1차적 기능을 넘어서 감성을 표출하는 표현의 매개체이며 수단이다. 이는 본 연구의 목적과 작품 컨셉과 일치되므로 패션 일러스트레이션을 결합시킴에 잘 부합된다고 여긴다. 본 연구의 작품은 자동기술과 대량생산과 미디어가 팽배한 이 시대에 보다 아날로그적이며 인간적 감성이 풍부하게 담긴 회화작품에서 서체추상화를 선택하여 조형성을 모티프로 삼고 콜라주 기법으로 드로잉 공간에 접목, 표현하였다. 본 연구는 스토리텔링의 드로잉 작품에 로버트 마더웰의 서체추상화가 지닌 조형적 요소인 선, 면, 색채를 분석, 도입하고 콜라주 기법을 통해 3차원 공간인 의상에 패션 일러스트레이션으로 제시하고자하였다. 이렇게 함으로서 본 연구는 2차원적 드로잉을 3차원의 패션공간에 표현함으로 부조와 환조의 이미지 표현을 통해 평면성과 입체성이 동시에 부여된 패션 일러스트레이션을 표현함에 목적이 있으며, 나아가 패션 일러스트레이션의 표현영역을 확장함에 궁극적 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 방법은 이론적 배경을 위한 문헌연구와 작품제작을 위한 실증적 연구방법을 취하였다. 연구내용은 로버트 마더웰의 작품형성 배경, 표현적 특성 및 조형성을 분석하고 콜라주 기법의 개념과 특징을 토대로 응용 사례를 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 작품제작이 이루어지며 평면성과 입체성이 부여된 8점의 패션 일러스트레이션을 구현하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 드로잉 원화의 정적 이미지에 마더웰 서체추상화의 즉흥적이고 자유분방한 거친 선과 형상 이미지를 응용 접목한 결과 작품에 역동성과 활력을 표출시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 본 연구의 콜라주 기법에 다양한 재료를 도입, 표현한 결과 드로잉의 표현성이 강화 될 수 있었다. 셋째, 패션 일러스트레이션 표현을 위한 바탕소재를 광목과 메쉬 소재로 선택하여 아웃라인을 거칠게 처리함으로서 서체추상의 거친 조형미의 표현력을 강화시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 평면의 이미지를 입체적 표현이 가능한 3차원의 의상에 표현함으로서 환조와 부조적 형상이미지를 표출시키는 입체적 패션 일러스트레이션을 구현할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 거친 입자의 소재, 촉각적 선의 표현을 이룬 실, 드로잉 된 소재 조각, 스냅, 단추, 안료, 끈, 나무 조각, 가죽 등 패션 소재들의 다양한 물징성을 패션 일러스트레이션에 적용함으로서 풍부한 시각적, 촉각적 흥미와 표현력을 높일 수 있었다. 본 연구는 로버트 마더웰의 서체추상화의 조형성과 콜라주 기법을 응용하여 3차원의 독창적 패션 일러스트레이션을 시도하였다. 내면의 감성 분출로 인한 표현과 외부의 물질성이 결합된 패션 일러스트레이션을 의상에 구성함으로서 무한한 표현의 장으로 극대화 시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다. 다양한 발상을 통한 표현방법이 응용된다면 패션 일러스트레이션과 더 나아가 패션 상품의 영역에 있어서 예술적 가치를 높일 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.;Fashion illustration is to express and deliver fashion images visually. It is to express mainly in 2-dimensional or relieve method. Fashion illustration is moving beyond the boundary of fashion or drawing into art and a lot of studies are being conducted. This present study aims to add 3-dimensionality and flatness by expressing fashion illustration in diverse materials and expression methods into clothing. Fashion provides more function than its primary function of body protection. It serves as a means and medium of expression. This is consistent with this research purpose and the concept of work, so, combining fashion illustration seems to work well. The works of fashion illustration examined in this study were chosen among calligraphy abstract paintings expressing more analogue humane emotion in this era of automated technologies and mass production media. These selected illustrations were combined and expressed into a drawing space in the collage technique with the motif of formativeness. This study tries to analyze and employ the formative factors of Robert Motherwell’s calligraphy abstract paintings - line, face, and color - and present as clothing fashion illustrations in 3D space through the collage technique. By doing so, this study seeks to express2D fashion illustrations in 3D space withrelieve and carving techniques in order to ultimately expand the expression area of fashion illustrations. The study method is an empirical research method and literature review for theoretical background research. And the background of Robert Motherwell’s works, their expressive characteristics and formativeness were analyzed herein along application cases based on the idea and characteristics of collage technique. Eight works of fashion illustration with flatness and dimensionality were produced based on this analysis in this study. The study findings are summarized as follows; First, the impromptu and liberal rough lines and shape images of Motherwell’s calligraphy abstract paintings were combined with the still images of original drawings. As a result, dynamism and vitality were injected to the works. Second, diverse materials were used in the collage technique herein. And the drawing expressivity was reinforced. Third, cotton clothes and mesh were selected as the background materials for fashion illustration expression. And outlines were made rough to improve the expressivity of tough formativeness in calligraphy abstract paintings. Forth, flat images were expressed in 3D dimensions to express images in both carving and relieve methods. Fifth, the dynamic materiality of fashion materials was applied to fashion illustrations, such as rough-particle materials, thread for tactual line expression, material pieces in drawing, snap, button, paint, string, wood piece, and leather. By applying these, visual and tactual interest and expressivity were enriched amply. This study tried to produce creative 3D fashion illustration by applying the formativeness of Robert Motherwell’s calligraphy abstract paintings and collage technique. It was found herein that fashion illustration could be unlimitedly expanded as a venue of expression by applying to clothes fashion illustrations combining the expression based on outpouring inner emotion and external materiality. It is expected that, if expression methods through diverse ideas are applied, the artistic values of fashion illustration and further in fashion products will be enhanced.
