Abstract
In the history of mankind, conflicts that come from heterogeneity such as racial, religious, and ideological differences have never had disappeared. Conflict is not a clash between “Rightness” and “Wrongness,” in such a way that any race cannot be superior to other races or any religion cannot be considered to be more valuable than another. Rather one might say it is a clash between “Rightness” and other “Rightness”. However, the controversy here is that a number of “Rightness” are pronounced the same, yet refer to different things. As an individual who has own view of “Rightness”, I conducted a study with a critical mind of how one should perceive these “Rightness”. A human being can only exist by occupying one point in space and time. In other words, a person is a limited being who can never obtain omniscient viewpoints. The world one experiences is absolutely existent in one’s position, but it might not be real to others who do not share the same space and time. Nonetheless, a human being deludes the world he/she sees is objective and makes every presence based on his/her perspective. Even though the cognition of a human being is inseparable with mobility of his/her space and time, and the world is constantly changing and is comprised of disordered pieces, he/she ignores such movability and aligns the world based on his/her own establishment. In this study, I investigated the cognitive limitations of human beings in order to explain personal interests. The world is not an input into one’s perception, but an output recognized by one’s active involvement. In other words, a world is a perceived output that does not separately exist itself, rather is a made-existent that varies with subject’s cognition. Thus, the world an individual perceives is an output of his/her conscious and the world presented by a human being who has limited point of views also holds limitations. In order to visualize human being’s cognitive limits, I coated colors on objects and gave those objects space-time variations so they look different each time. The objects that look different as space-time change signify that the world can be perceived differently depending on human’s existing conditions in time and space. Also, by assembling, disassembling and reassembling the objects, I present a figure, or “flexible combination of objects," that constantly changes in respect to the changes of situations. It is related with the attitude of knowing human finitude and considering oneself and the world one sees can be variable anytime, not fixed. This deformable combination of objects, as a lively existing subject that is ready to introspect itself by deconstructing its own "Rightness", can empathize other views of “Rightness” by accepting its cognitive limits. With such attitude, communications between different “Rightness” might happen. Throughout the analysis, I expect people, as finite existence, to admit human’s cognitive limitations, and to ask specific questions about directions waiting ahead of them. Moreover, through the working progress with objects, I seek opportunity to further develop my interests in art, and to apply the practical insights in personal life.
