현대인의 슬픈 초상에 관한 표현연구

Abstract

문명이 발달하고 경제성장이 빠르게 진행되면서 현대인들은 복잡하고 치열한 사회를 살아가게 되었다. 변화하는 시대의 흐름 속에서 고립되지 않고 살아남기 위해 사회의 흐름에 최대한 빠르게 적응해야만 하고 뒤처지지 않기 위해 끊임없이 남들과 비교하며 앞만 보고 달려간다. 현대사회는 현대인에게 모든 면에서 풍요를 제공하는 듯 보이지만 현대인은 사회가 바라는 요구에 지배당하고 압도되고 있다. 사회에 적응하지 못하면 비난받거나 뒤떨어지는 것으로 여겨지는 현대사회에서 살아남기 위해 타인과 자신을 끊임없이 비교하며 이 시대가 요구하는 사람으로 살아가고 있는지를 확인 받으려한다. 현대에 사는 대부분의 사람에게 자신의 목표를 설정하는 데에 있어 주요한 가치 중 하나는 남들의 호감을 사고 남의 인정을 받는다는데 있다. 따라서 자신이 혹시 남들로부터 멀어지지는 않았는가, 인정을 받지 못하고 있는 것은 아닌가 하는 것 등 타인에 대한 의식이 너무 깊어질 수밖에 없다. 또한, 사회는 다수와 구분되는 자신의 의견이나 행동으로 인한 외톨이가 되고 싶지 않은 심리로 인해 점차 자기중심적 가치체제를 형성하는 것을 포기하고 스스로를 상황에 따라 행동을 바꿀 수 있는 인간으로 만든다. 사회의 기준에 무의식적으로 적응해 나가며 자기 삶의 주체가 아닌 주변사람들이나 집단에 의해 이끌려 다니게 되고 변화하는 사회에 자신을 맞추어 삶의 가치와 표준을 정하여 살아가는 무리의 구성원으로 인식하는 자신만이 남게 되는 것이다. 즉 사회가 제시하는 이상적인 표본과 다른 자신의 모습을 발견하더라도 그것이 다른 것이 아닌 틀린 것으로 여겨지는 것이 두려워 사회의 기준을 쫓으며 살아간다. 사회는 현대인들에게 끊임없는 경쟁을 요구하고 있고 경쟁사회에 뒤처지지 않기 위해 우리는 스스로를 이 시대가 원하는 사회의 구성원이 되어 지 는 것을 당연하게 받아들이며 살아간다. 사회적으로 비난 받거나 집단 속의 이방인이 되지 않기 위해 사회가 원하는 삶의 가치와 표준을 쫓게 되고 결국 자신의 진정한 가치기준을 만들지 못한 채 사회의 기준에 맞추어 순응하며 살아가고 있는 현실이다. 본 연구는 위의 내용을 바탕으로 현대인이 자신을 가두었던 현대사회 속에서, 구조에 수긍하며 살아가는 익숙함의 굴레에서 벗어나지 못한 채, 사회의 틀에 맞추어 살아가고 있는 슬픈 초상에 초점을 맞추었다. 인간에 수긍한, 인간에 의해 길들여진 말의 모습을 현대사회에 수긍하며 살아가는 우리의 모습에 빗대어 표현하고자 한다. 작품에서의 말은 모두 인간에게 길들여진 말 이며 길들여짐이 익숙해져 본연의 야생성을 잃은 채 현실에 적응하여 살아가고 있는 상황에 놓여있다. 인간에 의해 길들여진 말은 인간이 원할 때 달려야 하며 인간이 만족할 만한 태도를 취하며 살아간다. 이미 길들여진 말은 자신이 그렇게 살아야 됨을 알고 수긍하며 인간을 거부하는 태도를 취하지 않는다. 광야를 달려야 하는 본능을 잊은 채 화려하게 치장된 안장을 얹고 고삐를 벗어 던지지 못한 채 주인을 기다리는 모습과 어느 곳에도 묶여 있지 않은 고삐를 하고 있음에도 묵묵히 가만히 서 있는 모습, 원래 있어야 할 곳을 그저 바라보는 것으로 그친 채 이미 길들여짐에 익숙해져 낮은 울타리조차 넘지 않으며, 훈련을 통해 이제는 채찍 없이도 이미 몸에 배어버린 트랙을 도는 일, 모든 일과를 마친 후에 마방으로 걸어가는 뒷모습, 문이 열려있는 울타리 안에 무리와 함께 있음에도 어떠한 말도 도망가려 하지 않고 가만히 있는 상황과 물웅덩이에 비춰진 말의 모습에 현대인의 현실을 투영해볼 수 있다. 현대인이 자신의 주체성을 상실하고 현대사회에서 살아남기 위해 사회에 순응하며 살아가는 것을 본연의 야생성을 잃고 인간에게 길들여진 말의 모습을 통해 표현하고자 한다. 현대사회 속에서의 현대인의 슬픈 초상을 드러냄으로써 우리가 살아가는데 있어서 주체성을 잃고 사는 것이 과연 우리의 진정한 가치로서의 삶인 것인가 하는 물음을 던지고 사회의 틀에 맞추어 수긍하며 살아가는 익숙함의 굴레에서 벗어나지 못하는 현실의 삶을 투영해 보고자 한다.;Due to swift civilization and economy growth, people of the contemporary are now living through a complex, competitive society. To survive without being left behind, They run and run, straight ahead, constantly weighing themselves with others and quickly adapt to the rapids of change, in order to survive without being left behind. The people of the contemporary seems to be provided all the abundance in every way from their society, but are being governed and overpowered by the demands of it. Since being thought inferior or blamed if failed to adapt to the society, people continuously compare themselves with others to check if they have become the persons the society demands, in order to survive the contemporary. To most people of the contemporary, one of the most important values in setting their goals, is to be favored and to be acknowledged by others. So they are very, very conscious of the others, concerning whether if they have drifted far apart from the group or if no recognitions are towards themselves. Moreover, due to the fear of unwanted isolation due to different opinion and action, society forms men to diminish their self-centered values and become self-changeable according to situations. People are unconsciously adapted to the standards of the society, being ruled by other individuals and groups and not by their own principal, and left as a being that is simply a loyal member of the society whose value and goals of life are set-up by the environment. Therefore, they live according to the criteria of the society even if they find themselves being different from the standards; afraid of being considered as wrong, not as different. The society requires nonstop competition to the contemporary men, and we now comply ourselves to be the worthy member the society demands, in order not to be left behind throughout the competition. It is the reality that we are only complying with the standards of the society, not ultimately developing their own true values and standards, following the demanded values and standards of life according to the society in order to avoid the social criticism and being the foreigner of the group. This research is based on the above context, focused on the mournful portrait of the contemporary men living through the outlined frame of the society, not successfully escaping from the familiar restraints of living in compliance to the contemporary. The appearance of horses domestically raised by humans, are an expression of ourselves living through the compliance to the contemporary. The horses in the works are all raised by humans and well adjusted to this fact, living in compliance to the reality, their nature of wilderness forgotten. Human-raised horses run when required, and live as a being that their masters are satisfied with. Raised horses are well complied to the fact that they should live that way, and do not deny humans. Horse with fancy saddles rather their nature of running the plains in freedom, waiting for their masters without their reins not yet unfastened; waiting still even without their reins restraining them; merely staring at the place where they actually belong, adjusted to the tamed state, not jumping over the low fence to overcome it; trotting the familiar trails skillfully even without the whips; the backs of the horse walking to its stable after the daily routine; calm horses in open fencing, not a single one running away; the reflection of them in a small pond; all these appearances of tamed horses well-project the reality of contemporary men. Tamed horses with lost sense of nature express the men living in compliance to the demands of society with lost self-identity, in order to survive the contemporary. By revealing the sorrowful reflection of the men living the contemporary, I hereby ask ourselves if living the life without self-identity is truly valuable as life, and project the image of our reality life, not able to run away from the familiar restraints of living in compliance to the demanded frame of the society.
