대학생의 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계

Abstract

본 연구는 서울 및 부산 지역 대학생 371명을 대상으로 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계에서 적대감과 부적응적 유머의 매개효과를 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 먼저 각 변인들의 관련성을 알아보기 위하여 상관분석을 실시하였고, 다음으로 구조방정식 분석을 통해 각 변인들의 구조적 관계를 파악한 후 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계에서 적대감과 공격적 유머, 자멸적 유머의 매개효과의 유의성을 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주요 변인들의 관계를 확인하기 위하여 상관분석을 실시한 결과, 내현적 자기애와 적대감, 부적응적 유머, 공격적 유머, 자멸적 유머, 우울은 유의한 정적 상관을 나타내어 변인들 간 밀접한 관련이 있음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 내현적 자기애와 적대감, 부적응적 유머, 우울의 구조적 관계를 살펴보기 위하여 구조방정식 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 내현적 자기애에서 공격적 유머, 공격적 유머에서 우울, 적대감에서 공격적 유머 또는 자멸적 유머로 가는 경로를 제외한 모든 경로들이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 내현적 자기애에서 적대감으로 가는 경로가 가장 강력하게 나타났다. 셋째, 적대감과 부적응적 유머의 매개효과를 분석한 결과, 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계에서 적대감과 자멸적 유머의 단순매개효과가 각각 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 적대감과 자멸적 유머가 각각 내현적 자기애와 우울의 관계를 부분매개함을 확인하였다. 연구 결과를 종합하면, 내현적 자기애 성향이 강한 경우 우울 수준이 높을 뿐 아니라 적대감과 자멸적 유머를 매개로 우울에 취약해진다는 결론을 내릴 수 있다. 본 연구는 내현적 자기애 성향의 대학생들의 우울을 예방하기 위해 적대감을 감소시키고 자멸적 유머 사용보다 적응적 유머 사용을 권장하는 개입 전략을 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.;The purpose of the present study was to identify the mediating effects of hostility and maladaptive humor(aggressive humor, self-defeating humor) in the association between covert narcissism and depression. The study participants(N=371, mean age=22.3) were drawn from the universities in Seoul and Busan. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and Structural Equation Modeling, using SPSS 20.0 and Amos 20.0. The results of the study were as follows: First, the examination of structural relations among the major variables showed that all the paths were significant except the paths from covert narcissism to aggressive humor, from aggressive humor to depression, and from hostility to aggressive humor or self-defeating humor. Especially, the path from covert narcissism to hostility was the most powerful. Second, the results indicated that hostility and self-defeating humor partially mediated the association between covert narcissism and depression. The results suggested that the high covert narcissism tend to result in high depressive symptoms itself. Moreover, covert narcissism raise the vulnerability to depression as it is mediated by hostility or self-defeating humor. These results also showed that hostility and self-defeating humor should be considered in designing a intervention program for undergraduate students who have depressive symptoms caused by covert narcissism. The findings in this study also suggested the direction for future research in regard to the relation between covert narcissism and depression.
