This research aims to assess the effect of participation in high school music club activities on adjusting to school life and problem solving skills by measuring the school life satisfaction and self-efficacy of those students participating in music club activities. To this aim, this research measures the difference in school life satisfaction and self-efficacy between students who participate in music club activities and those who do not. In addition, this research evaluates the difference in school life satisfaction and self-efficacy of those students participating in music club activities based on general characteristics (gender, year in school, period of participation, and motivation for participation). Finally, this research analyzes the correlation between school life satisfaction and self-efficacy of students who participate in music club activities. To collect relevant data for this research, eight (8) schools in the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area (GSMA) were selected by random sampling from a list of schools recommended by the GSMA Educational and Cultural Center for Students (ECS) for their on-going music club activities. First and second year students in these schools, selected as the target for this research, were provided with surveys to fill out. Of the 554 students that participated in this survey, 284 participated in music club activities while the remaining 270 did not. The survey was comprised of three major areas: general inquires, school life satisfaction related inquiries, and self-efficacy related inquires. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used to analyze the data collected from this survey. The conclusion reached in this research can be summarized as follows. First, students who participated in music club activities exhibited higher levels of school life satisfaction compared to those who did not. Sub-factors in which statistically significant differences were observed included satisfaction about overall school life, school regulations, extracurricular activities, and social support. Second, students who participated in music club activities exhibited higher levels of self-efficacy compared to those who did not. Statistically significant differences were observed in self-confidence, self-regulated efficacy, and task difficulty preference, all of which are sub-factors of self-efficacy. Third, differences in general characteristics (gender, year in school, period of participation, and motivation for participation) among students who participated in music club activities did not result in statistically significant differences in school life satisfaction. Fourth, male students who participated in music club activities exhibited higher levels of self-efficacy compared to their female counterparts. Excepting gender, no statistically significant differences in self-efficacy were observed between samples with different generally observable characteristics. Fifth, a positive correlation was observed between school life satisfaction and self-efficacy of students who participated in music club activities. Students with higher levels of school life satisfaction exhibited higher levels of self-efficacy. Regression of these students’self-efficacy against school life satisfaction, lead to the observation that students with higher levels of school life satisfaction not only had higher levels of self-efficacy, but also that the school life satisfaction of those students who participated in music club activities had a significant impact on their self-efficacy. This study observed that participation in high school music club activities resulted not only in the development of musical proficiencies, but also in higher levels of school life satisfaction and self-efficacy. In closing, this study looks forward to a more active music club scene in schools, the subsequent improvement in students’school life satisfaction and problem solving skills, and ultimately a more fulfilling high school experience for students.;이 연구의 목적은 고등학교 음악 동아리 활동에 참여하고 있는 학생의 학교생활만족도와 자기효능감을 측정해 음악 동아리 활동을 하는 학생이 학교 생활에 적응하고 자기 자신의 문제를 해결해나가는 추진력이 어떠한지를 알아보는 것에 있다.
