녹슨 함석에 관한 기억의 표현연구

Abstract

본 논문은 인간이 가지는 고유의 기능인 ‘기억’에 관하여, 개인적 측면으로 회상된 기억이 예술표현을 통해 다른이 에게 감정이 전이되고, 추론될 수 있는가에 대한 의문에서 출발하였다. 기억은 현재의 순간을 대면함과 동시에 즉각적인 과거의 무한 범주로 이행이 가능하다. 즉, 기억은 과거와 현재를 자유로이 순환한다. 기억은 오랜 시간 속에서 학습되고, 망각되며, 파편화된 기억들의 재편집을 통해, 새로운 체계로 자리 잡는다. 본 연구자는 작품 표현에 영향을 주고 있는 ‘녹슨 함석’이 갖는 기억과 시간성(역사성)을 탐문해 보고자 하였다. 이런 점에서 개인의 기억으로 출발한 녹슨 함석에 관한 표현은 다분히 주관적이며, 상징적이다. 일제강점기에 등장한 함석은 특수한 역사를 가진 한국인에게 어떠한 정서를 회상하게 하고, 그 정서는 어떻게 다시 본인에게 추론되어 표현될 수 있는가를 탐구하였다. 시간의 흔적이 깃든 함석에 대한 기억을 크게 집단적 기억과 개인적 기억으로 분류하였다. 집단적 기억에서는 함석의 역사적 기록과 배경을 찾아 함석이 한국인의 삶에 정착하는 과정을 살펴본다. 개인적 기억에서 함석에 관한 기억은 연구자의 유년시절로 거슬러 올라간다. 함석에 엉켜있는 유년시절의 기억은 본 연구자의 경험에 의한 감각들로 회상되었다. 그 감각들은 기억의 공간에서 표현된다. 녹슨 함석에 관한 ‘집단적 기억’과 ‘개인적 기억’을 이어주는 할머니는 기억의 “매개자”로 나타난다. 본 연구자는 논문을 통해 함석을 매개로 한 기억이 작품으로 표현되는 과정을 탐구하고, 회상을 통한 소통의 공통 지점을 고찰하고자 했다. 본인에게 작업은 자기 성찰을 통한 세상과의 소통이다. 이런 점에서 기억은 과거와 현재, 미래의 시간들을 이야기하는 소통의 통로로 기능한다. 세상과의 소통에 매개체 역할을 할 수 있는 ‘녹슨 함석에 관한 기억’이 주는 표현을 통해 관람자로 하여금 본인의 작품으로 소통할 수 있는 경로와 가능성을 찾고자 한다.;About the ‘memory’ as a unique feature that humanbeing has, this paper started from the question whether the personal side of memory recollection can be transferred to the emotion of other people thru the artistic expression and can be inferred. Memory confronts the very moment and at the same time it can perform to the infinite scope of the immediate past. Namely, memory circulates the past and present freely. The memory is learned in a long time, is forgotten, and is taken place in a new system thru re-editing of memory fragments. The researcher meant to obtain information of memory and time (history) which 'rusty zinc' has influenced to the expression of the work. From this view point, the expression on the rusty zinc which is started from the personal memory is very subjective and symbolic. Zinc which appeared during Japanese occupation makes Korean remember a certain emotion who have a special history and my study investigated how the emotion can inferred to the researcher and be expressed. Memory about zinc which has the trace of time was largely classified into collective memory and personal memory. In the collective memory, the researcher tried to find out the process of settlement how the zinc settle down onto the life of Korean thru searching for historical record and background. The memory of zinc in the personal memory goes way back to the childhood of researcher. The memory of the childhood related with zinc recollected the senses of experiences of the researcher. Those senses are represented in the space of the memory. The grandmother who bridges the ‘collective memory’ and the ‘personal memory’ of the zinc appears as a ‘mediator’ of memory. In this study, the researcher explored the process remembered by the zinc as a medium to express the work, and tried to consider the common points of communication with the recall. The job to me is to communication with the world thru self-reflection. In this sense, memory functions as a channel of communication to talk about the time of past, present and future. The researcher would like to find the path and possibility to communicate with viewer thru the expression of ‘memory on the rusty zinc’ which can be the role of mediator in the communication with the world.
