궁중정재「춘앵전(春鶯囀)」을 바탕으로 한 무용 창작작품 「월하보(月下步)」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 궁중정재 「춘앵전(春鶯囀)」을 바탕으로 한 무용 창작작품 「월하보(月下步)」에 관한 연구 논문이다. 작품 「월하보」는 2010년 6월 10일 이화여자대학교 무용관 홀Ⅰ에서 개최된 무용학과 실기석사 작품발표회에서 초연된 작품으로, 본 연구자는 우리의 전통문화인 궁중정재 「춘앵전(春鶯囀)」을 현대적 감각에 맞는 현대 공연예술의 형식으로 재창조함으로써 한국 춤의 고유성과 현대 춤의 다양성을 작품 속에 조화롭게 담아내고자 하였으며, 이를 통해 세계화 시대에 경쟁력 있는 무용 창작작품을 만들고, 전통의 올바른 현대화 방법을 모색하고자 하였다. 즉, 본 논문은 작품 「월하보」를 분석하고 제작과정을 살펴봄으로써 ‘전통춤의 현대적 재해석’ 연구의 가치와 의의를 밝히는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 연구자는 무용 창작작품 「월하보」를 분석하기에 앞서 문헌자료를 토대로 본 작품의 바탕이 된 궁중정재「춘앵전」의 역사적 배경과 내용 및 형식, 춤사위, 창사 그리고 복식에 대한 연구를 진행하여 「춘앵전」에 나타나는 미적특징과 예술적 가치를 살펴보았다. 이어 작품 「월하보」와 같이 궁중정재 「춘앵전」를 현대적으로 재해석한 작품 사례들을 살펴봄으로써 이러한 방법의 창작 작업이 공연예술 현장에서 어떻게 이루어지며, 어떠한 의미를 갖는지 연구하였다. 궁중정재 「춘앵전(春鶯囀)」을 현대 감각에 맞게 재해석하는데 있어서는 현대 공연예술의 특징이라고 할 수 있는 ‘표현’, ‘몸의 움직임’, ‘여성’, ‘소통’을 중요 키워드로 설정하고 이를 중심으로 작품을 전개하였으며, 이러한 요소에 초점을 맞추어 제작된 창작작품 「월하보」를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 무용 창작작품 「월하보」는 궁중정재 「춘앵전(春鶯囀)」을 현대적 감각에 맞게 재해석한 작품으로, 과거 의례의 한 부분으로 야외에서 행해졌던 「춘앵전」춤을 무대 공간으로 끌어올리며 현대 공연예술의 형식으로서 재창조 하고자 하였다. 그 과정에서 현대 공연예술로 안고 있는 한계성을 발견하고 이를 극복하기 위하여 본 연구자가 모색한 것은 ‘표현’, ‘몸의 움직임’, ‘여성’, ‘소통’ 이 네 가지 키워드이며, 이를 중심으로 「춘앵전」의 내용과 형식, 내재된 사상, 춤사위, 무복의 현대적 재해석을 시도하였다. 둘째, 작품 「월하보」는 현대 공연예술의 성격이라고 할 수 있는 종합예술을 표방하는 작품으로, 무용수의 움직임을 중심으로 무대 구성, 음악, 조명, 의상 등의 다양한 시청각 매체들 간의 유기적인 연관성을 통해 작품의 주제와 내용을 표현하였으며, 이를 통해 조형미와 형식미 즉, 단순한 아름다움이나 장식을 목적으로 하는 것이 아닌, 개인의 내면적 정서에 자유로운 표현을 추구하고자 하였다. 셋째, 작품 「월하보」의 내용은「춘앵전」창사를 재해석 한 것으로, 이를 부모 또는 군주에 대한 충(忠)과 효(孝)가 아닌 개인의 심리, 내면적인 자아의 표출로 해석하고, 화려한 겉모습 속에 본래의 자신을 감추고 살아가는 현대인의 모순된 삶의 모습을 표현하고자 하였으며, 이를 통해 항상 타인의 시선과 평가를 의식하며 자신을 잃어버린 채 삶을 살아가는 우리에게 오늘날 우리가 처해있는 답답한 현실에서 벗어나 진정한 자신의 모습을 찾길 바란다는 메시지를 전하고 있다. 즉, 전통적 색체에 현대적 삶을 반영하여 대중들이 공감할 수 있는 작품으로 재창조하였다. 이와 같이 본 연구자가 작품「월하보」를 통해 보여준 전통춤의 현대적 재해석 연구는 과거의 춤과 오늘의 춤의 고리를 잇는 작업으로, 전통문화에 대한 가치를 재조명 할 수 있는 발판을 마련한다는 점에서 가치 있는 작업으로 평가할 수 있다. 또한, 21세기 쏟아지는 대중문화 속에 묻혀 가는 우리의 전통문화에 생명력을 불어 넣어 살아 숨 쉬는 예술로 자리매김할 수 있게 한다는 점에서 작품「월하보」에 대한 연구는 매우 큰 의미를 지닌다.;This paper is a study on the creative dance work 「Wolhabo」 based on a court music and dance 「Chunaengjeon」. 「Wolhabo」 premiered at the dance recital for the Master of Fine Arts degree in the Department of Dance held in Hall Ⅰ of Dance Building at Ewha Womans University. This study aimed to harmonically put the uniqueness of Korean dance and diversity of contemporary dance into the work by recreating a court music and dance 「Chunaengjeon」, the traditional Korean culture, in the form of contemporary performing arts. In other words, the purpose of this paper is to clarify the value and significance of the research on 'contemporary reinterpretation of traditional dance' by analyzing 「Wolhabo」 and examining the creation process. The analytical results of the creation 「Wolhabo」 drew the following conclusions: First, the dance creation 「Wolhabo」 reinterprets the court music and dance 「Chunaengjeon」 for contemporary sense, aims to raise the dance in 「Chunaengjeon」 which was performed outside as a part of ceremonies in the past to stage space and to recreate it in the form of contemporary performing arts. In the process, limitations of contemporary performing arts were found. In order to overcome them, the author explored five keywords such as 'expression', 'body movement', 'female', and 'communication' and aimed to contemporarily reinterpret the content, form, implicit thought, basic dance movement, dance costume in 「Chunaengjeon」 based on them. Second, 「Wolhabo」 is the work advocating composite art that can be the character of contemporary performing arts and expressed the theme and content through organic relationship between various audio-visual media such as stage structure, music, stage lighting, and costume with a focus on dancers' movements. It aimed to pursue not formative and formal beauty, that is to say, simple beauty or decoration but expressions true to individual internal feelings. Third, 「Wolhabo」 is the work reinterpreting the lyrics of 「Chunaengjeon」. The author interpreted it not as loyalty or filial piety to parents or monarch but as expression of individual feelings or internal ego and aimed to express contradictory life of people today who hide their true selves in gorgeous facade. We are overly self-conscious and lose ourselves in our daily lives. This work conveys a message to discover our true selves away from this frustrating reality. In other words, the author recreated it as a work capable of receiving sympathy from the public by reflecting contemporary life in traditional colors. Thus, the study on contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Korean dance through the work 「Wolhabo」 by the author is the work linking dance in the past and present and can be evaluated in that it gains a foothold in shedding new light on values of traditional Korean culture. Furthermore, this study on 「Wolhabo」 is quite significant in that it can vitalize traditional Korean culture buried in a flood of popular culture in the 21st century as a living art.
