빛과 소리를 안은 내면풍경

Abstract

반복되는 일상에 아름다운 찰나를 발견하는 일은 지금 이순간 자신의 마음가짐에 달려있다. 본 논문은 이러한 논제 하에 출발한다. 본인은 내적 상태의 헤아림이 우선임을 알아차리고, 나아가 명상과 자각에 대한 마음공부와 함께 회화적인 수단으로 전개되는 연구 과정의 흐름을 보여주고자 한다. 내면의 소리에 집중하여 삶에 투영시키는 과정은 마치 음악 감상시 연주 공간에서의 집중과 흡사하다고 본다. 그리하여 온 신경을 집중하여 경건하게 감상하는 태도로 내면의 소리에 온전히 귀를 기울여 들어보기로 한다. 이는 삶과 작업의 구체적인 방향성을 제시한다. 본인에게 있어 외부세계에서 내부세계로 들여다 볼 수 있게 하는 중요한 요소는 자연과 음악이다. 자연 풍경을 향한 시선은 명상의 시간으로 내면에 대한 성찰과 숙고를 위한 순간이다. 또한 음악은 깊은 내면의 세계로의 이동에 수단이 되고, 자기 자신을 바라볼 수 있게 한다. 그러기에 외부로부터 철저히차단된 연주 공간에서의 경험은 내면으로의 여정을 떠나는 ‘명상’의 공간이 된다. 본론의 첫 번째 장 ‘내면으로의 여정’에서는 ‘마음 풍경’과 ‘음악 풍경’으로 나누어 살펴보고 이에 연결되는 본인의 작품을 전개할 것이다. ‘마음 풍경’에서는 시인 노발리스(Novalis)와 삶을 흥미롭게 바라보는 태도를 제시한 자비에르 드 메스트르(Xavier de Maistre)를 언급하고, 자연 풍경에 비추어 마주한 내면을 마주한 시선을 가진 낭만주의의 이론적 근원과 화가 카스파 다비드 프리드리히(Caspar David Friedrich)의 회화론을 살펴보고자 한다. 다음으로 풍경의 소리에도 귀를 기울여 자연의 연주를 듣고 명상의 세계로 인도하는 ‘음악 풍경’의 내용을 다루고, 단지 자연의 소리를 상상하는 것을 넘어 구체적으로 표현한 기존의 작곡가들의 회화적인 음악을 살펴볼 것이다. 본론의 두 번째 장 ‘내면세계의 표현’에서는 본인의 삶의 과정을 그대로 담은 작업 과정을 살펴볼 것이다. 내면을 향한 시선의 변화로 명상적인 공간이 나타나는 작품과 함께 우선 내면의 울림이 빛으로 연주되는 ‘빛의 공간’을 다룰 것이다. 이와 연관하여 마크 로스코(Mark Rothko)와 제임스 터렐(James Turrell)의 작품에 나타나는 빛에 관하여 연구할 것이다. 다음으로 연주 공간에서 음악을 들으면서 내면의 울림을 듣게 된 경험을 비추어 ‘음(音)의 울림’에서 논하고자 한다. 인간의 내면세계에 흐르는 감정과 깊이 관계하는 음악의 정신적인 측면을 다룬 게오르크 빌헬름 프리드리히 헤겔(Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel)의 음악미학을 참고할 것이다. 이에 덧붙여 음악의 정신에 대한 관심으로 자신의 회화가 음악이 발휘하는 효과를 가지기를 원한 마크 로스코(Mark Rothko)의 회화를 살피고자 한다. 마지막으로 내재된 생각들을 시각적으로 표출하는 ‘내면의 연주’로 우선 작업을 대하는 본인의 태도를 다루고, 음악을 다양한 관점에서 바라보고 표현으로 옮기는 본인의 회화적 표현 방식에 관하여 구체적으로 다루고자 한다. 이와 같은 논문의 연구 과정을 통해 좀 더 구체적으로 작품세계의 학문적인 탐구를 더하여 이해를 분명히 하고, 회화를 통해 구현하고자 하는 바가 무엇인지 다양한 관점으로 작품세계를 깊이 살펴 보고자 한다.; Discovering a beautiful moment in a repetitive daily life is experienced with a novel perspective according to one's mental attitude. This paper begins from under such an argument. Perceiving the priority on conjecturing my internal state, I aim at displaying a flow of a research process developed by pictorial means with meditation and mind study on self-awareness. In my opinion, a process to concentrate on and project sounds of the inner side is similar to focusing at musical appreciation space. I pursue listening to the internal sounds completely with a pious attitude for appreciation. It suggests a specific direction for the life and working. For me, important elements enabling me to peep into the internal from the external world are nature and music. Gaze at natural scenery leads to the moment for contemplation, reflection and deliberation for the inner side. Besides, music is a means of moving toward the deep internal world, allowing me to look into myself. So, experience at the performance space blocked from the external thoroughly comes to be a space of 'meditation' for an internal journey. In the 1st chapter, 'Journey toward to the inside', I develop my related works with classification into 'Mental Landscape' and 'Musical Landscape'. In the 'Mental Landscape', mentioning Xavier de Maistre that suggested an intriguing attitude on the life of the poet, Novalis, I examine theoretical opinions of German romanticists having a perspective on the inner side facing the natural scenery and painting theory by Caspar David Friedrich. Next, I deal with the 'Musical Landscape' to lead to the contemplative world while paying attention to sounds of the landscape and listening to performance by the nature. Furthermore, I review pictorial music of the existing composers who expressed sounds of the nature merely imaging them. In the 2nd chapter, "Expression of Inner World", I examine my working process containing my life entirely. Along with works generating a contemplative space through a change of a viewpoint forward the internal, firstly I deal with a "Space of Light' performing echoes of the inner world by light. Related studies are done on the light in Mark Rothko's and James Turrell's works. Next, reflecting on the experience of listening to internal echoes at the performance space, I discuss "Echoes of Tone", with reference to the musical aesthetics of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel who described spiritual aspects of music having a deep relation to feeling of human internal world. In addition, I examine paintings of Mark Rothko who wanted his painting to have a musical effect with interest in the spirit of music. Finally, I give an in-depth description about working attitude as "Performance of the Inner Side" expressing inherent ideas visually, and my subjective method to explore and represent music in a variety of perspectives. Through such a research process, I aim at exploring the work world academically for profound understanding and examining my works particularly for things realized by painting in various perspectives.
