'청색적석(靑色積石)'을 통한 인간관계의 함축적 표현

Abstract

우리는 우리가 스스로 존재한다고 생각하지만 인간을 포함하여 세상에 존재하는 모든 것들은 자신이 처한 환경과 불가분의 관계에 놓여 있다. ‘인간은 사회적인 동물이다’라는 아테네의 철학자 아리스토텔레스(Aristoteles)의 말처럼, 한 개인이 이 세상에 태어나 살아가면서 죽는 그 순간까지 끊임없이 무수히 많은 존재들과 만나고 접촉하며, 더 나아가 자연과도 물질적, 감정적 교류의 상호작용을 통해 끊임없이 영향을 주고받으며 살아간다. 한 사회의 일원으로서 성장하는 과정은 이러한 경험을 통해 축적된 기억의 층위들이 유기적이고 다층적으로 얽혀 자신만의 단단한 삶의 방식을 구축하는데 있다. 이러한 속성에 기인하여, 본인은 사람이 태어나 하나의 인격체로 성장하기까지의 과정을 대지의 편린(片鱗)인 돌이 생성되는 과정에 투영하였다. 현재 우리가 마주하는‘돌’은 하나의 결과론적인 사물이지만, 그것은 모래와 자갈 등의 유형(有形)요소들과 크게는 물, 바람, 햇빛의 무형(無形)의 요소들이 복합적으로 녹아들어 거대한 힘에 의해 하나로 응집되는 과정을 통해 만들어졌다. 그렇게 생성된 처음에는 거대하고 견고했을 이 응집체는 우리가 상상할 수 없는 억겁의 시간을 거쳐 현재 우리 눈에 볼 수 있는 작고 평범한 그것으로 마주하게 된다. 우리의 삶도 이와 같다. 시간의 차이는 있겠지만, 세계 속에 존재하는 하나의 커다란 구성원이자 그 흐름 속에서 다양한 변화를 겪으며 자라온 우리는 모두 산하(山河)에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 돌을 닮아있다. 그 생김새 또한 모두 다르고 신경 쓰지 않으면 무심히 스쳐지나가는 것들이지만, 각자가 의미를 부여하기로 결심한 순간부터는 더없이 특별한 존재들이 되기도 한다. 본 연구는 그 관점을 조금 더 확장하여, 그것들이 한데 모여 이루는 성질에 주목하였다. 세상에 존재하는 나와 타자 사이에서 형성되는‘관계성’을 구체화하기 위해 그것이 쌓여 이뤄진 구성체를 시각적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 우리는 흔히‘신뢰를 쌓다’라는 어휘에서 보듯, 어떠한 대상과 한 대상이 이어지는데 있어‘쌓는다’라는 단어를 자주 사용한다. 이처럼 우리가 흔히 쓰는 어휘에서도 누군가와 만나 나에게 의미 있는 존재가 되기까지 필연적으로 관심과 시간의 축적이 필요함을 말하고 있다. 사람들은 영원히 변치 않을 마음을 그 하나의 존재에 담아 소원, 소망, 염원, 또는 누군가의 안녕(安寧)을 간절히 기원하며 조심히 쌓아 올린다. 그것들은 크고 잘생긴 돌이 아닌, 우리 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 평범한 작고 미미한 돌들이다. 눈에 보이지 않는 심중(心中)의 것들은 이 선택된 작은 돌을 통하여 눈에 보이는 시각적 매체로 환치(換置)되는 순간, 관계성을 지닌 구성체로써의 독특한 지위가 부여된다. 본인의 작품은 이렇듯 관계적 집약체로서의‘돌’의 상징적 의미를 고찰하고, 그 의미를 한 번 더 확장하여 그것들이 쌓아 이루는 형상(形狀) 사이에서 읽을 수 있는 관계성을 평면의 공간에 시각적으로 표현함에 그 목적이 있다. 이에 따라, 본인은 사회적 존재로서의 인간과 관계성을 지닌 돌의 의미를 살펴보고, 또한 비슷한 맥락으로 돌을 관계성의 소재로써 표현한 이우환의 <관계항>, 박현기의 <비디오 돌탑>의 작품을 살펴보아 본인의 작업 연구에 참고하였다. 표현 방식에 있어서는 본인 작업 전반을 아우르는 색조인 청색(靑色, Blue)과 종이라는 평면 공간 위에 쌓아서 표현한 돌의 이미지와 선의 중첩을 중점적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 혼자서 존재한다는 것은 어려운 일이다. 그렇기에 우리는 함께하는 가치를 택한다. 그 과정 속에서 무수히 많은 우연과 인연들이 생겨나고 관계들이 얽혀 파생되는 결과물은 결국 자연이라는 거대한 순환 안에서 그 궤를 함께하고 있으며, 방향성과 속도의 차이는 있지만 지금도 끊임없이 서로가 긴밀히 영향을 주고받으며 연결 되어있다. 본인은 본 연구를 통해 복잡하게 맞물려 이루는 균형 속에서 일상에서 만나는 인연의 소중함을 다시금 환기시키고 잠시 머물렀다 스러져가는 평범한 것들에 대한 애정과 관심을 갖고자 하였다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 본인은 각박해져가는 사회 속에서 우리가 진정으로 생각해야 할 가치들이 무엇인지 진지하게 고민하며 진정한 소통과 관계를 모색하고자 한다.;Although we think that we exist on our own, all of the existing things in this world including human beings are inevitably interrelated with the environments that we are embedded in. According to the statement of Aristotles, a philosopher in Athens, ‘Human beings are social animals’, an individual constantly makes encounters and connections with from the moment of the birth and death in the world, even constantly get influenced by myriad things through a variety of physical and emotional interactions with nature. The process of growing as a member of a society is interlinked with the accumulated memories on the experiences in organic and multi-layered ways to establish the sold style of an individual life. Based on this feature, the author reflects the process of growing as a person from the birth into the creation of a stone as a sculpture of nature. ‘Stone’ that we face is an object as a result, it is created in the process in which material elements such as sand and fables and the non-material elements such as water, wind, sunlight are being concentrated into one by huge power. This object, which used to be solid and huge for the first time, now becomes a small and ordinary thing that we can see now from the experiences within the unthinkable time. Our lives are similar in this way. We, who are members of the world and grew with the experiences of a variety of changes within a flow even though the differences in time exist, resemble stones usually found in rivers and mountains. Their appearances are all different, and people tend to pass by the stone without consciousness. However, they become the most special things from the moment giving individual meanings to them. To expand such perspective more, this study focus on the characteristics that they comprise as gathering together. This study attempts to visually express the construction shaped from the accumulation of the relationships in order to specify ‘the relationships’ formed between the self and others in the world. As found in the term ‘accumulating trust’, we frequently use the term ‘accumulation’ to connect one thing and other things. Therefore, such common term reveals that the accumulation of attention and time is inevitably required to become a meaningful existence when meeting someone. With desperate hope, longing, wish for other’s well-being, people carefully accumulate things that contain their permanent hearts. The stones are not big and good-looking; rather, they are ordinary, small, and trivial stones. In the moment of the transformation from the selected small stone into the visual medium, these unseen hearts are placed within a unique position that has relational characteristics. The purpose of this artwork is to investigate the symbolic implications of ‘stone’ as a concentration of relational characteristics, and to visually express the relationships that can be read between the shapes of the accumulation by expanding these implications once more in a plain space. For the expression, this artwork attempts to examine the overlapping of line and blue which is an encompassing color in the entire work. To exist alone is hard. Therefore, we select the value of being together. In this process, myriad accidents and ties are created, and the results derived from the interactions among relations eventually follow a huge cycling called the nature. Although the differences in directions and speed exist, all people are intertwined and closely get influenced each other even now. The author tries to remind the significance of connections in daily lives once again within the balance that complicatedly comprised as well as to pay attentions and affections on ordinary things that come and go. Based on this artwork, the author tires to investigate the actual communication and relationship with the serious consideration on ‘what are the real values for us in this tough world’.
