인간의 환유적 상징으로서 티셔츠를 활용한 패션일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

오늘날 물질문명이 고도로 발달하고 사회구조가 복잡해짐에 따라 패션의 기능과 역할이 다양해졌다. 티셔츠는 패션의 수많은 아이템 중 보편성을 지니면서 가장 애용되는 대표적인 아이템이다. 즉, 티셔츠는 패션에 있어서 현대사회를 상징하는 의미가 있다. 한편, 오늘날 패션일러스트레이션은 표현방법에 있어서 다각도의 연구가 시도되고 있으며, 독특한 기법으로 창의성과 예술성이 부여된 다양한 작품들이 나타나고 있다. 본 연구에서는 꼴라쥬, 즉 서로 성질을 달리하는 여러 재료를 결합하여 화면에 입체적 재질감을 통한 표현, 에 주력함으로써 패션일러스트레이션의 시각적 효과를 극대화 하고자 한다. 또한 티셔츠의 상징성에 주목하여 티셔츠를 인간 상징의 표현 매개체, 즉 환유적 상징체로 정하고 특별한 표현 주제를 나타내는 새로운 양상의 패션일러스트레이션을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 이를 위한 방법으로 티셔츠와 꼴라쥬에 대한 이론적 고찰을 하였는데, 특히 인간의 환유적 상징으로서의 티셔츠 특징 및 사례 분석과 꼴라쥬의 특징 및 패션일러스트레이션에서의 사례를 중점적으로 연구하였다. 이러한 이론적 근거를 바탕으로 패션일러스트레이션 작품 제작을 하였고 이를 위한 방법으로 첫째, 현대사회 인간의 삶에 나타나는 정서와 감정을 10가지로 스토리텔링화 하고 각각에 맞는 사회 현상을 선정하여 작품의 주제로 하였다. 둘째, 그림 위에 다양한 재질과 특성을 갖고 있는 오브제를 꼴라쥬 하였고, ‘젤 미듐’을 섞어 씀으로써 독특한 표면 효과를 내고자 하였다. 셋째, 환유적 상징의 의미를 담고 있는 티셔츠를 제작하여 꼴라쥬 하였다. 이때 티셔츠 제작은 친환경적인 소재인 천연 광목 또는 무형광 원단을 택하였으며 이러한 친환경적인 패션 소재의 사용은 인간의 내면과 순수함의 의미를 담고 있다. 이러한 과정을 통해 현대인의 일반적인 10가지 정서를 인간의 대체물인 티셔츠를 통해 나타내고자 하였으며, 이에 대한 꼴라쥬 기법을 응용한 패션일러스트레이션을 제시한다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 이론적 연구의 결과로 티셔츠가 패션의 기능 뿐만 아니라 인간의 몸, 하나의 독립된 인격체로서 환유적으로 상징될 수 있음을 알았고, 패션일러스트레이션에서 보이는 꼴라쥬 기법의 입체감이 패션 이미지를 극대화하여 시각적으로 강렬한 효과를 주는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 이론적 연구결과를 토대로 환유적 상징으로서 티셔츠를 응용한 패션일러스트레이션 작품 10개를 제작하였으며 이를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 환유적 상징체로써의 티셔츠를 패션일러스트레이션에 접목함으로써 인간 내면 욕구의 창출과 심리가 더욱 극적으로 표현됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 티셔츠에 인간의 표정과 몸짓을 담아 표현한 결과 대중들에게 특별한 시각적 체험을 유도하여 주제 표현이 용이함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 꼴라쥬 기법에 의한 입체적 표현으로 강력한 시각적 자극과 함께 풍부한 재질감으로 인해 깊이 있는 표현이 가능하였다. 셋째, 본 연구의 작품은 패션 아이템을 인간의 등가체로 설정함으로써 표현의 고정관념에서 탈피할 수 있었다. 넷째, 현대사회의 패션 아이템인 티셔츠를 패션일러스트레이션의 꼴라쥬 표현 매개체로 채택한 결과 기존의 티셔츠가 지니는 상징성과 활용 범위를 확대할 수 있었고 이러한 측면에서 본 연구의 의의가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 최종적으로 본 연구는 꼴라쥬 기법의 차별화된 특징과 환유적 상징의 티셔츠에 패션일러스트레이션을 접목시켜 새로운 방식의 작품을 제시함으로써 패션일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치를 높이는데 의의를 두었고 앞으로 후속 연구가 이루어지길 기대한다.;Today’s modern people has been diversified of granting a role or function in fashion with the complication of social structure and development of material civilization. T-shirt is a typical item that is used with universality among the numerous amount of fashion items. In other words, t-shirt symbolizes modern society in fashion. Meanwhile, today’s fashion illustration research has been tried in various angles on method of expression. Various work has been appearing, having originality and artistry in unusual technique. In this research, by combining several materials that have different character and focusing on expressing solid tensity of the picture (in other words collage), it is trying to maximize visual effect of fashion illustration. Also, by focusing on the symbol of t-shirt, it is determining t-shirt as an expression medium of human symbol, metonymy symbol and it is trying to propose new aspect of fashion illustration which shows special expression of subject. To do this, I did theoretical consideration of t-shirt and collage. I focused on the feature of collage as well as example in fashion illustration and feature of t-shirt as well as case analysis of human metonymy symbol. I produced fashion illustration work on the basis of these theoretical base. First, I did 10 story telling with the emotion that appears in modern society human being and chose social phenomenon that fits each of the story and made it the subject of the work. Second, I did collage of an objet that has variety of quality of the material and characteristic. I tried to show the unique surface effect using ‘gel medium’. Third, I collaged by choosing a t-shirt that has meaning of metonymy symbol. I chose the fabric of natural cotton cloth that is environmental friendly or nonfluorescent fabric. By using the environmental friendly materials, I tried to put in the purity of inner side of a person. By these process, I tried to express the 10 common emotion in human replacement, t-shirt. This is the conclusion of this research. For the result of theatrical research, I learned that t-shirt not only has the function of fashion but can be the metonymy symbol of human body; one independent human being. I also learned that the cubic effect from the collage technique that is shown in the fashion illustration maximizes the fashion image and gives strong effect visually. By this theatrical research I produced 10 works of fashion illustration applying t-shirt. Below is the result that I’ve learned from this. First, by combining t-shirt which is metonymy symbol to fashion illustration, it expressed psychology and creation of human inner desire more dramatically. Also by expressing human faces and gestures, it made it easier to show the theme by letting the public have unique visual experience. Second, the three-dimensional expression of collage technique has gave strong irritating visual and abundant quality of material and made it possible to express profoundly. Third, in this research project, by selecting human equivalent as fashion item, it had allow for it to bail out from the stereotype of expression. Fourth, by selecting t-shirt (fashion item of our modern society) as collage expression medium for fashion illustration, it allowed for the existing t-shirts to expand the symbol and range of use. By this, this research was meaningful. Finally, this research presented new way of work by combining the differentiated characteristic of collage technique and fashion illustration that uses the t-shirt of metonymy symbol. This made the artistic merit of fashion illustration increase. I hope to see more follow-up research.
