Abstract
The purpose of this study lies in the comparative study of syntactical restriction of connective sentence structure in Korean and Hindi. This study intends to help Indian(Hindi speaker) learners by uncovering the differences, similarities and speciality in six types of Korean connective endings '-go', '-dorok', '-jiman', '-myeon', '-nikka', 'denjee' and Hindi connectors 'aur', 'taki, jisse ki', 'per', 'Agar...to', 'isliye', 'ya' which has the similar or same meanings and could be compared in both the languages. Students learning Korean, consider studying connective endings as one the most challenging parts. This could be eased by identifying the differences and similarities in the use of connective endings in Korean and learner's native language. Thus, it can be more effectively achieved by contrasting the differences and similarities with the learner's first language. However, there is a lack of literature and contrastive studies on the differences and similarities of the Korean and Hindi languages. This paper really hope to help fill in the missing gap of information and add to the resources on the present topic. In chapter 2, this study first presents the concept, classification and then explores the semantical and syntactical properties of Korean connective endings and Hindi connectors. Also it deals with the nature of six types of connectors in both the languages. In chapter 3, this study clarifies the similarities, differences and speciality between these two beautiful languages after dividing a sentence into two phrases and then examining the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination in both the phrases. The five types of syntactical restrictions are, 1. tense restriction, 2. subject restriction, 3. declinable word 4. mood restriction, 5. negation restriction. In this chapter, section A deals with the 'connection related' connectives '-go' and 'aur' which are very similar in their syntactical nature. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. The Connector 'aur' also functions as '-va/gwa' , to connect two noun phrases. Section B deals with the 'purpose related' connectives '-dorok' and 'taki, jisse ki'. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. In Korean the first phrase contains the purpose of the sentence and second phrase shows the method to fulfill that purpose. In Hindi the first phrase shows the method or way to achieve the aim which is represented by the second phrase. Section C deals with the 'contrast related' connectives '-jiman' and 'per'. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. The nature of both the connectives is nearly same. Section D deals with the 'condition related' connectives '-myeon' and 'Agar...to'. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. The morpheme of Hindi conditional clause 'Agar...to' changes to 'Jab...to' when a sentence is in the past tense. Section E deals with the 'reason·cause related' connectives '-nikka' and 'isliye'. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. Section F deals with the 'selection related' connectives '-deunjee' and 'ya'. It analyses the five types of syntax phenomena(restrictions) with pre-final ending combination after dividing the sentences into two phrases. Finally, in chapter 4, summary and results of this study are represented.
