유치원에서 유아의 연령 및 성별에 따른 실외놀이영역 선호도

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore children’s preference on the type of outdoor play area and if there is any differences in preference based on sex or age. In order to examine this topic, the study focused on the following questions. 1. What types of outdoor play area do children prefer at kindergarten? 2. Is age or sex a determining factor in children’s preferences on the type of outdoor play area? 2-1. Is there any difference in the types of preferred outdoor play area among different age groups? 2-2. Is there any difference in the types of preferred outdoor play area among different sex groups? The subjects of the study are 60 children in Dae-Jeon city aging from 3-5. To observe children's outdoor play preference, outdoor play preference observation tools were employed. Also, the outdoor play area set up were divided into 14 different play sects; swing and complex unit structure were placed in exercise play area, animal and plant in animal & plant area, maze and cave (tunnel) in adventure play area, soccer field and empty yard in open play area, water & sand play area, and log wood, pine tree forest, miniature train, and moving & transition in another play area. Using time sampling, outdoor play preference observation tools examined the above play areas every 10 seconds, and recorded the kind of play each child played in each play area for 5 seconds. Compiled data through observation was used to calculate the frequency and percentage to verify children's outdoor play area preference. One way ANOVA and independent sample t-test were used to determine the outdoor play area preference based on children's age and sex. The main findings of the study are as follows. First, the overall children's preference on outdoor play area observation showed that maze in adventure play area is children's favorite area, water & sand play area holds the second place, followed by yard in open area. This indicates that children like the adventure play area the most, where active physical movement and a sense of thrill are involved, and prefer a play area with flexibility and diversity. Second, the research shows that 3 year old children preferred maze in adventure paly area, plant & animal area, and open area. 4 year olds preferred fixed complex unit play structure and water and sand play area. Compared to other children in other age range, they preferred diverse play areas. 5 year olds preferred soccer field and empty yard in open play area. These results indicate that children have different development level and interest in different play area and children choose play area that suits their preference. Third, the research shows that children have different outdoor play area preference based on their sex. 3 year old boys preferred maze and open space, and 3 year old girls preferred swing, water and sand play area, and plant area. 4 year old boys preferred soccer field, maze, and cave, girls preferred swing, complex unit structure in exercise play area, and library. 5 year old boys preferred soccer field, maze, and cave, and the girls preferred empty yard. Depending on children's sex, children prefer different play area and play differently.;본 연구는 유치원에서 유아의 실외놀이영역 선호도를 알아보고, 유아의 연령 및 성별에 따라 실외놀이영역 선호도에 차이가 있는지를 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 1. 유치원에서 실외놀이영역에 대한 유아의 선호도는 어떠한가? 2. 유치원에서 실외놀이영역에 대한 유아의 선호도는 연령 및 성별에 따라 차이가 있는가? 2-1. 유치원에서 실외놀이영역에 대한 유아의 선호도는 연령에 따라 차이가 있는가? 2-2. 유치원에서 실외놀이영역에 대한 유아의 선호도는 연령 내 성별에 따라 차이가 있는가? 본 연구의 연구대상은 대전광역시에 위치한 J유치원에 재원하고 있는 만 3-5세 유아 60명이다. 유아의 실외놀이영역 선호도를 살펴보기 위해 실외놀이영역 선호도 관찰 도구를 사용하였고, 관찰이 이루어진 실외놀이영역은 운동놀이 영역에 그네와 종합놀이시설, 동·식물 기르기 영역으로 동물영역과 식물영역, 조용한 놀이 영역은 야외 도서관, 개방된 영역은 축구장과 빈 마당, 모험놀이 영역은 미로와 동굴(터널), 그 밖의 통나무 숲과 소나무 숲, 모형 기차, 전이영역으로 총 14개 영역으로 나누었다. 실외 자유선택활동 시간에 이루어지는 유아의 실외놀이영역을 시간표집법을 활용하여 실외놀이영역 선호도 관찰 도구에 10초 간격으로 유아가 놀이하고 있는 영역을 확인하고, 5초 동안 개별 관찰지에 유아가 놀이를 한 실외놀이영역을 기록하였다. 관찰을 통해 수집된 자료는 유아의 실외놀이영역 선호도를 살펴보기 위해 빈도와 백분율을 산출하고, 유아의 연령에 따른 실외놀이영역 선호도와 연령 내 성별에 따른 실외놀이영역 선호도를 살펴보기 위해 일원배치분산분석(ANOVA)와 독립표본 t검정을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 나타난 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 만 3-5세 유아의 전반적인 실외놀이영역에 대한 선호도를 살펴본 결과 모험놀이 영역의 미로를 가장 선호하였으며, 그 다음으로는 물·모래놀이 영역, 개방된 영역의 빈 마당 등을 선호하였다. 이러한 결과는 유아는 스스로 움직이고 스릴을 즐길 수 있는 모험놀이 성향을 가진 놀이영역과 변화가 가능하고 다양한 형태의 놀이를 즐길 수 있는 영역을 선호한다는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 유아의 연령에 따른 실외놀이영역 선호도의 차이를 살펴본 결과, 만 3세 유아는 모험놀이 영역의 미로, 동·식물 기르기 영역, 그리고 전이영역을 선호하였다. 만 4세 유아는 고정된 시설물인 종합놀이터와 그네와 물·모래놀이 영역을 선호하였으며 다른 연령에 비해 다양한 놀이영역을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 만 5세는 개방된 영역의 축구장과 빈 마당을 선호하였다. 이러한 결과는 유아는 연령에 따라 발달 수준이 다르고 흥미를 느끼는 놀이 유형이 다르므로 이에 자신의 선호에 맞는 놀이영역을 선택하고 있다는 것을 보여 준다. 셋째, 유아의 연령 내 성별에 따른 실외놀이영역 선호도의 차이를 살펴본 결과, 만 3세 남아는 미로와 전이영역을 선호하였고, 여아는 그네, 물·모래놀이 영역, 식물영역을 선호하였다. 만 4세 남아는 축구장, 미로, 동굴을 선호하였고, 여아는 그네, 운동놀이영역의 종합놀이시설, 야외도서관 등을 선호하였다. 만 5세 남아는 축구장, 미로, 동굴을 선호하였고, 여아는 빈 마당을 선호하였다. 유아의 성별에 따라 선호하는 놀이양상 및 놀이 행동이 다르며 이와 같은 특징이 유아의 성별에 따라 선호하는 실외놀이영역이 차이가 있음을 보여 준다.
