인공와우 이식 성인의 선율재인 정확도와 음악적 특성

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine how adults cochlear implants(CIs) accurately recognize familiar melodies and to analyze which musical elements of melodies contribute the melody recognition. A total of 26 adults with CIs participated in this study. Eight familiar melodies, including children’s song, folk song, and functional song, were used for the melody recognition test. Each participant was asked to identify the title of the song after listening to each song. Recognition rates were measured and further analyzed in consideration of musical attributes of each song, which were also appraised by 11 musicians, in terms of melodic contour and rhythm. The results of this study demonstrated that although the perceived familiarity with the presented melodies was observed frequently, adults with CIs showed low performance of accurate melody recognition. The highest recognition rate was observed with the song 'School Bell', 'Arirang' and 'Grace of teacher' were recognized the least frequently. While the melodies recognized more frequently were analyzed to show the distinct melodic contour and the repetitive occurrence of salient rhythmic motives, lowly recognized melodies tended to have more complex melodic contour and variety of sub-rhythmic patterns, which might limit the perception of melodic contour and saliency of rhythmic features. These results indicate that adults by CIs may use distinct melodic contour as a cue to recognize the melody. Also, it indicates that adults with CIs may rely on repetitive rhythmic features when recognizing songs. It not only support the previous studies showing this population's relatively intact skills to perceive the isolated rhythmic components, but also demonstrate how they process a song into which several musical elements are integrated. The results of this study would base the appropriate song selection and song-based intervention when aiming to facilitate more successful processing and enjoyment of songs adults with CIs.; 본 연구에서는 인공와우 이식 성인의 친숙한 선율에 대한 재인 정확도를 알아보고 재인 정확도에 따라 선율의 음악특성을 분석하고 지각적 평가결과에 준거하여 질적인 분석을 실시하였다. 서울, 경기, 충청 소재 병원과 대학교 등에서 모집한 인공와우 이식 성인을 대상으로 실험이 실시되었고, 연구목적과 절차에 동의한 인공와우 이식 성인 30명이 참여하였다. 본 연구에 사용된 선율의 선정기준은 동요, 민요, 기능곡 등 초등학생 및 일반 성인 대상 사전연구에서 100%의 재인 정확도를 보인 곡으로, 인공와우 이식 성인에게도 인지도가 높으며 친숙할 곡으로 선정하였다. 결과분석에는 선율인지도 설문조사를 통해 선율을 사전에 모두 인지하고 있는 것으로 확인된 26명의 자료가 포함되었다. 본 연구에 사용된 선율에 대한 음악특성을 선율윤곽과 리듬특성에 관하여 분석한 후 음악 전공자 집단 대상으로 선율윤곽과 리듬특성의 명확도에 관한 지각적 평가를 실시한 후, 이에 준거하여 결과를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 참여자들은 임의적으로 재생되는 가사를 제외한 노래의 선율을 듣고 해당하는 선율 제목을 기입하였다. 참여자들의 자료를 수집하여 분석한결과, 제시된 선율에 대해 참여자의 62%가 친숙하게 인지함에 비하여 재인 정확도는 17.79%로 현저히 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 재인 정확도가 가장 높은 곡은 ‘학교종’ 이며, 재인 정확도가 가장 낮은 곡은 ‘아리랑’과 ‘스승의 은혜’였다. 또한 인공와우 이식 성인의 재인 정확도 순위가 선율윤곽과 리듬특성에 관한 지각적 평가에서 명확도가 높게 나타난 경향과 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 선율윤곽을 이루는 패턴이 짧고 그 특징과 리듬특성이 명확하게 드러날수록 인공와우 이식 성인의 선율재인 정확도가 높아질 수 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구결과는 인공와우 이식 성인의 선율재인 정확도에 대한 유용한 정보가 되며, 인공와우 이식 성인이 음악지각 시 음악적 정보를 어떠한 형태로 사용하는 지에 대한 자료를 제시하였다. 또한 인공와우 이식 성인에게 음악을 제공하고 지각훈련을 하는데 있어 기초적인 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
