Abstract
Our life is mortal. No one can escape from the fact that we eventually die. The moment of life and death comes unexpectedly; life is fluctuating. Anxiety caused by the uncertainty of life makes our sense of own existence precarious. Due to the uncertainty, human civilization has been founded upon an act of proving our own existence and of doubting our natural tendency, deemed as irrational. People of today still ask no question about a proven value. Contemporary men try to shake off this uncertainty by assimilating themselves into an existing system and given rules. That is to say that people console themselves by believing that what they do is right according to the convention and the value system. The majority of people utterly acknowledge how the social system and justice judgment works. Yet, those defined norms make us overlook things that are not important according to the value system. Thereby, we lose our sense of discovering meanings and perspectives as well as the ability to see the truth. The purpose of this research is to shed light on humble things that receive a meager attention, allowing us to recognize a possibility of finding diverse values and meanings in everything around us, and as well as to acknowledge our own precarious position. The black and white argument places rationality above sensibility, and those words that split our world restrict us to seeing things under the confined system. Any conceptual approach to non-conceptual matters only creates a prejudice. Therefore, in order to understand pre-determined matters, we need to have an inclusive and sentimental approach. When emancipated from being logically confined, I could recognize those objects that were marginalized. They do not generally get much attentions under our value system. However, when we genuinely try to observe them, a myriad possibilities surface. In my project, various media, such as latex, thread, and fishing line are shown in a way that they are hung on the wall, or from the ceiling, moving constantly. With a drawing as a starting point, these variable images are displayed as a form of complicated and untidy net, taking various visual suggestions, such as objects rotating arbitrarily, hair and dots on human skin, a tree sprouting towards all over the panel, and a pack of bugs that you encounter unexpectedly. This sense of flexibility and uncertainty plus a chance-encounter suggest expanding our confined perspective. I hope that we, trapped in our confined perception, once again can recognize a world phenomenon clearly, and that we can embrace the uncertainty within us, having an open perspective not governed by the autocratic application.
