익숙한 일상의 탈주로서 사물을 낯설게 보기

Abstract

산업사회와 도시, 대량생산과 소비, 획일화되어가는 양식들, 그곳에서 사람들은 쳇바퀴처럼 굴러가는 오늘과 내일의 덧없는 시간 속에서 소외감, 무력감을 느끼며 생활한다. 이러한 모습이 집약된 일상이라는 단어는 현대를 이해하기 위한 철학적 개념으로 자리 잡고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 일상의 사물들과 본인과의 관계의 사유로부터 나아가 일상성을 생산하는 사회와의 관계를 들여다본다. 근대로부터 내려온 표상적 사고는 그 틀이 많이 와해하고 있지만, 여전히 인간의 사고방식 속에 남아있으면서 우리의 자유로운 사고를 억압하고 있다. 본인은 인간이 개념 속에 가두어놓은 진부한 동일성의 틀을 깨고 세상에 존재하는 것의 차이를 발견하고자 한다. 이러한 사유를 통해 작품의 의미가 다양하게 해석될 수 있도록 문을 열어두는 것은 예술작품의 가장 본질적인 가치를 아름다움에서 찾으려 하는 관습적 사고의 틀을 전복시키는데 좋은 방법이 될 것이다. 이를 위해 본론 첫 장에서는 먼저 앙리 르페브르가 철학적으로 분석한 ‘일상성’에 주목하면서 일상의 대상들이 예술작품 속에 들어오게 된 미술사적 배경을 살핀다. 대중매체의 발달은 고급예술과 저급문화 사이의 오랜 장벽을 허물고 그 간극을 채워주는 역할을 하였으며, 팝아트에서부터 보편화한 대중매체의 적극적인 차용은 다양한 현대사회의 모습을 반영하고 시사하고자 하는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한, 불확정적이며 고정되지 않은 의미의 가능성을 탐구하기 위한 이론적 배경으로 자크 데리다의 해체 이론 속 ‘차연(différance)’과 ‘불확정성(undecidability)’을 탐구한다. 그리고 그가 주장하는 예술작품의 근원적 의미를 통해 미리 정해진 기호가 아니라 비어있는 기호로서 맥락에 따라 항상 변화하는 한다는 것의 이론적 근거로 삼는다. 네거티브적 표상에서는 사진의 등장에 인해 회화가 네거티브적 표상으로 들어가고, 표상 불가능한 것을 표상하는 방향으로 나아가게 된 과정을 추적한다. 본론 두 번째 장에서는 모더니즘과 포스트모더니즘 시대의 재현의 개념과 특징이 어떻게 변화되었는지를 알아보고, 이러한 미술사적 배경을 바탕으로 본인이 일상적 삶에서 마주치는 사물과 공간을 작가의 취향을 드러내지 않고 사물 자체를 보여주기 위해 객관적 혹은 몰-개성적으로 도식화하여 재현하는 연유를 밝히며, 재스퍼존스와 마이클 크레이그 마틴의 작품을 분석하여 본인의 작품에 나타나는 특징과 비교 분석한다. 또한, 실재와 허구의 구별이 무의미해진 시뮬라크르 시대에 반복적 특성과 본인의 작품과의 연관성을 생각해보기 위해 플라톤과 보드리야르의 시뮬라크르에 대해 언급하며 나아가 앨런 맥컬럼의 작품 분석을 통해 반복성이 가진 유사적 측면을 통해 차이를 이끌어 내는 과정을 살핀다. 원본성, 유일성이 중시되던 시대를 지나 디지털 기술과 테크놀로지의 발전으로 시뮬라크르의 시대에 발맞추어 ‘복제된 텍스트’로서 그 역할을 톡톡히 수행하고 있는 사진매체를 분석해보고 존 힐리아드의 작품분석을 통해 사진이 가지는 환유적인 힘과 사진매체의 가능성을 모색해볼 것이다. 본론 세 번째 장에서는 위의 이론적 배경과 설명, 방법론적 바탕을 토대로 본인의 작업에서 제시하고자 하는 의미와 작품들을 살펴본다. 일상적인 사물을 도식화하여 그 사물 자체에 주목하게 하고, 이미지의 문맥을 다양하게 읽는 시도를 한다. 또 복제된 텍스트의 역할을 충실히 수행하는 사진매체의 특성을 살려 비슷한 이미지를 반복적으로 제시하고 그 속에서 발견되는 차이를 통해 다채로운 사유의 가능성을 모색한다. 이처럼 본인은 개념의 틀에서 벗어나 존재를 있는 그대로 제시하고, 반복성을 통한 시뮬라크르 세계의 시각적 반영을 통해 각자에게 내재한 사유를 유도한다. 이러한 상황 속에서 본인의 개념 속에 가두어져 있는 일상 속 진부한 동일성의 틀을 깨고 존재들의 다양하고 차별적인 목소리에 귀를 기울일 수 있기를 기대해본다.;In industrial society and city, mass production and consumption, standardized culture, people live in treadmill time feeling alienation, helplessness. I have studied ‘différance’ and ‘undecidability’ in Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction theory that brought the shock and thrilled into the western metaphysical philosophy, been maintained for more than in 2000 years which is focus on reason.
