<나는 가수다>에서 나타난 편곡법의 분석 연구

Abstract

The history of South Korean popular songs has still evolved through a significantly wide variety of categories including trot, folk song, ballade and dance music, which have reflected South Korean original sentiments and historical settings. Now that such a variety of music categories reach their zenith in the world of South Korean popular songs (K-Pop), the popular dance music invaded by young idol groups become already a mainstream of K-Pop and young generation has dominated the culture of South Korean popular music. Behind the cultural mainstream, our manhood-aged, middle-aged and old-aged people have been left out from the world of South Korean popular culture. That is why we face a new category to meet our contemporary cultural trend with a view to creating a consensus of inherent sentiments in such alienated generations from mainstream. One evident example is found in a latest trend of arrangements for conventional popular songs into a new music styles. Recently, a MBC TV program titled “I Am a Singer” (South Korea) re-highlighted music arrangement as a part of musical forms and categories. The purpose of this study was to select 8 pieces of outstanding categorical arrangement from South Korean popular songs introduced in “I Am a Singer” and make a further analysis on those pieces to systematically sum up musical characteristics of categorical transformation from existing original song to re-arrangement. In this study, it is found that arrangements into rock music category are characterized primarily by a mainstream of electric guitars and percussions using amplifier as well as intense sound effects and a repeated cycle of rhythms. On the other hand, arrangements into Latin music category (e.g. samba and tango) are characterized by using regional music instruments enough to reveal original exotic colors of this category, and are also characterized by categorical highlight with any original or modified version of characteristic rhythms in Latin music category. In particular, arrangements into rhythm & blues (R&B) or jazz music category are characterized by using chords like dominant seventh, major seventh and secondary dominant seventh as well as harmony like tension notes (Tb9, T9, T13). Summing up, it is concluded that such arrangements in pursuit of categorical transformation as revealed in “I Am a Singer” change conventional music pieces by means of detailed elements like melody, harmony (chord), rhythm and music instruments to the extent that they can newly represent original versions of old-fashioned popular songs and may be another art category of popular music as such. This study has its own implications in one sense that it suggested the importance and possibility of arrangement and in the other sense that it systematically summed up musical characteristics of each categorical arrangement and thereby set a theoretical foundation of ‘popular song arrangement method.’ Based on these findings, it is expected that South Korean popular music will be able to further develop and come to higher level of perfection.;한국 대중가요의 역사는 우리나라의 정서와 시대적 상황을 담고 있는 트로트, 민중가요, 그밖에 포크송, 발라드, 댄스 등 매우 다양한 장르의 음악을 거치면서 발전되어 왔다. 장르의 발달이 절정을 이룬 현재에는 아이돌 그룹에 의한 댄스 음악이 대세를 이루게 되면서 젊은 층이 대중가요 문화를 주도하게 되었다. 이러한 대세에 가려진 중,장,노년층 들은 대중문화의 범주에서 소외되어졌고 소외된 세대들이 그들만의 정서를 공감하도록 시대의 흐름에 맞는 새로운 장르가 탄생되었다. 그것이 바로 기존의 대중가요를 새로운 형태로 개편하는 편곡(Arrangement)이다. 최근 TV 프로그램 <나는 가수다>를 통하여 편곡은 하나의 음악적 형식, 장르로 부각 되고 있다. 본 논문은 <나는 가수다>에서 장르적 편곡이 뚜렷이 보인 8곡을 선정하고 분석을 통해 기존의 원곡에서 재 편곡 되어 바뀐 장르의 음악적인 특징을 체계적으로 정리하였다. 록 장르로서의 편곡은 증폭장치를 사용하는 전기기타와 타악기가 주(主)를 이루며 강렬한 소리의 효과를 내며 반복적인 리듬을 사용한다. 삼바와 탱고의 라틴음악 장르로서의 편곡은 장르의 색채가 드러나는 악기를 사용하고 장르의 특징적 리듬을 그대로, 혹은 변형하여 장르를 부각시킨다. 리듬앤블루스나 재즈장르로서의 편곡은 도미넌트세븐스, 메이저세븐스, 세컨더리 도미넌트세븐스 등의 화음과 텐션노트(Tb9,T9,T13)등의 화성을 사용한다. <나는 가수다>를 통해서 보여진 장르의 변화를 주는 편곡은 선율, 화성, 리듬, 악기 등의 세부 요소를 통해 기존의 음악을 변형시켜 원곡을 새롭게 재현하고 그 자체가 또 하나의 예술영역이 된다. 본 연구는 편곡의 중요성과 가능성을 제시하는 동시에 장르에 따른 음악적 특징을 체계적으로 정리함으로써 ‘대중가요 편곡법’이라는 이론적 토대를 마련하였다. 이로써 대중가요가 더욱 발전되며 완성된 형태로 이끌어 올라갈 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
