Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the factors associated with physical activity of collge students based on Ecological model. The subjects of this study consisted of 356 college students in Sinchon, Seoul. The research tool is comprised of general characteristics of the subjects, ecological characteristics(self-efficacy, social support from family and friend, perceived college environment, perceived community environment), and physical activity(IPAQ). The statistical analysis were done by frequent and percentages, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, hierarchical regression analysis using PASW Statistics 18.0 programs. The findings of this study were as follows : 1. The mean score of self-efficacy was 13.992±3.254. Male and subjects who are in sports club have significantly higher self-efficacy than the other. 2. The mean score of social support was 29.97±5.932(social support from family was 15.15±3.493, social support from friend was 14.89±3.947). Male and subjects who are in sports class, sports club and dormitory have significantly higher social support than the other. 3. The mean score of perceived college environment was 17.98±3.358. Male and subjects who are in sports club have significantly perceived college environment than the other. After additional analysis, more physical activity facilities a college has, higher perceived college environment subjects have and more physical activity subjects do. 4. The mean score of perceived community environment was 25.99±3.888. Subjects who live with their parents in their own home and are not in sports class have significantly higher perceived community environment than the other. 5. The mean score of physical activity was 2552.720±2232.9243MET-min (Male’s physical activity was 3115.1±2695.9MET-min, female’s physical activity was 2552.7±2322.9MET-min). Male was the most powerful factors. and subjects who are in sports club and class have higher physical activity. 5. The explanatory strength of general characteristics and ecological characteristics(self-efficacy, social support, perceived college environment, perceived community environment) on physical activity was 18.0%. Especially, self efficacy(β=.21~.26) was the most powerful factors. Thus, parts of ecological factors have effect on physical activity of college students. For improvement of physical activity of college students, it is necessary to change factors not only intrapersonal and interpersonal, but also organizational and community factors.
