The Effectiveness of Access to Justice Services for Rural Women in Fiji

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the importance of having effective justice services made accessible for rural women in Fiji. The main objective of this research is to analyze how the human rights mechanisms in Fiji promotes and protects rural women. Specifically on the justice services, legislations, legal literacy programmes, and other human rights programmes undertaken in the Eastern Division. Secondly, to provide policy suggestions and recommendations, for the protection of human rights and promoting gender equality in. Fiji. Considering the high prevalence of gender-based violence in the Eastern Division, critical measures will be discussed, whilst addressing at the same time the following challenges faced by rural women such as the socio-economic, cultural, geographical implications and other barriers for their protection and safety. Therefore, this paper will be approaching these challenges from a human rights perspective, identifying possible measures and strategies in empowering women for their advancement and foremost being knowledgeable about their rights and legislations which protect them from all forms of discriminatory practices in Fiji.;본 연구는 피지의 농촌여성들이 접근할 수 있는 효과적인 법률 서비스 제공의 중요성을 논하고 있다. 본 연구의 주요 목표는 피지의 인권 메커니즘, 특히 동부 지방에서 이행되고 있는 법률 서비스, 제도화, 법률 활용 교육, 인권 프로그램이 어떻게 농촌여성을 보호하고 이들의 권리를 증진시키고 있는지를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 피지의 성평 증진과 인권 보호를 위한 정책을 제언하고자 한다. 피지에서는 젠더 관련 폭력이 빈번하게 일어나는데 대한 논의가 증가하고 있다. 이와 동시에 농촌여성들의 사회경제적, 문화적, 지리적 어려움으로부터 이들에 대한 보호와 안전 문제를 다루기 위한 중대한 조치들이 논의될 것이다. 이에 본 논문은 이러한 피지의 도전과제들에 대해 인권적 관점으로서 여성들의 역량을 강화하기 위한 가능한 조치와 전략들, 특히 여성들이 모든 형태의 범죄로부터 보호되는 권리와 제도화에 관해 밝히고자 한다.
