물의 순간적 조형성을 표현한 테이블웨어 연구

Abstract

Water has no constant form and is subject to endless changes, which is why many artists find the source of their imagination and creation in water. At the same time, water is an essential element to the survival of natural creations including human beings. It is especially an element to enable spiritual thinking and philosophical medication for people. The infinite visual perceptions inherit in the properties of water allow viewers to witness a new space and guide them to the unknown speculative world of imagination beyond reality. This study set out to investigate the formativity of harmony among all the elements at the "moment" instead of continuous time when each element achieved balance through movements and motions with a focus on non-stoppable momentary changes by external movements of the many different properties of water. The study also aimed to embody the nature of water in tableware, thus having users experience new time and proposing a design to expand momentary time in a creative way. Urbanization and industrialization that proceeded fast in the second half of the 20th century led to the improved living standards of modern people. As a result, the ear of "what to eat" was replaced with that of "how to eat" with many changes to the dietary life culture related to the table. Those changes of consciousness were also reflected in the tableware design. The word practical no longer signifies the goal of design. Taking a broader perspective, the scope between the design represented by pure art in contemporary art and the design represented by commercial art has been expanded to the infinity with the boundary between them disappearing. Products necessary for everyday life have already become works of art. Consequently, the creative aspect has been further reinforced in contemporary tableware design compared with the functional aspect as it evokes the current value of man and the nostalgia for nature more than the previous periods. Today tableware products show changes by the items to meet the diversified needs of consumers beyond the domain of traditional crafts, and designs are changing due to the formative interpretations of a new creative vision among designers. The present study thus examined the concept and components of tableware and analyzed contemporary tableware designs. The most noteworthy in the various contemporary tableware designs was the design inspired by natural materials, and it served as an important element in the present study on water as a material since the material of water, one of the natural elements, is reflected in contemporary tableware designs in terms of form. The present study examined why water had influences on so many artists by analyzing its meanings as a design material and interpreted the formative characteristics of water based on the analysis results, thus embodying time that might be passed by momentarily through the consideration of time called "moments" and investigating the works of artists proposing a new vision of creation. When making works, the investigator first focused on diverse changes to design in the same work instead of the same design to express the forms of water and also on decorative functions to help users with an everyday vision experience a creative vision through the investigator's process of formative time. The findings indicate that changes to the consumer perceptions of tableware according to the contemporary culture related to the table have enabled the launch of new products in the current ceramic tableware market. With those experiences, the investigator wanted to check the possibilities of products to incorporate the momentary formativity of water into consumers' desire for "self-expression" through consumption and offer the driving force for further development into specific tableware products in future.;물은 일정한 형태가 없고 변화무쌍한 존재이기 때문에 많은 작가들에게 상상력과 창조력의 원천이 되어 왔다. 동시에 물은 인간을 비롯한 자연물에게 필수적 요소이며 인간에게는 정신적 사유와 철학적 명상을 가능케 하는 요소이기도 하다. 물의 특성에 담겨있는 무한한 시지각은 감상자에게 새로운 공간을 목격하게 하기도 한다. 본 연구는 물의 현상 중 외부 움직임에 의한 순간적 형태 변화에 중점을 두었으며, 물의 움직임 안에서 연속되는 시간이 아닌 짧은‘순간’에서 나타나는 모든 요소가 조화를 이루는 물의 조형성을 연구하였다. 물의 현상을 조형적으로 해석하여 테이블웨어로 형상화하여 작품을 제작하고, 작품을 통해 사용자에게 새로운 시각을 경험하게 하며 순간적인 시간을 심미적으로 표현하는 디자인을 제시하고자 하였다. 20세기 후반부터 빠르게 진행된 도시화, 산업화는 현대인들의 생활수준의 향상으로 이어졌으며 그 결과로 '무엇을 먹느냐'의 시대가 아닌 '어떻게 먹느냐'의 시대가 도래하여 테이블과 관련된 식생활 문화에도 많은 변화가 일어났다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 먼저 테이블웨어의 개념과 테이블웨어를 이루는 구성요소들을 살펴보고 현대 테이블웨어의 디자인에 대해 분석하였다. 현대 테이블웨어의 디자인 안에서 가장 주목한 점은 자연적인 소재에서 영감을 얻은 디자인 부분이었다. 현대 테이블웨어 디자인은 현재 인간의 가치, 자연에 대한 향수를 불러올 수 있는 창조적인 디자인 측면이 강화되고 있으며 디자이너들의 새로운 창의적인 조형 시각으로 인하여 디자인의 변화가 나타나고 있음을 발견하였다. 디자인의 소재가 된 물의 개념은 물에 대한 의미를 분석하여 물이라는 소재가 왜 많은 작가들에게 영향을 주게 되었는지 살펴보았다. 이러한 분석을 기반으로 물의 순간적인 조형성에 대해 알아보고, 물이 가지고 있는 조형적인 특징을 물방울, 흐름, 소용돌이로 분류하고 디자인 전개과정에 사용하여 작품을 제작하였다. 작품제작에 있어 물의 현상을 표현하기 위해 원형의 형태를 성형과정에서 변형하여 각기 다른 형태가 작품 내에서 조화를 이루도록 하였고 유기적이고 부드러운 선으로 표현하려고 하였다. 또한 물의 조형적인 형태는 짧은 순간에 지나쳐 가는데, 순간적으로 나타나는 형태를 디자인에 사용하여 사용자의 일상적인 생활에서 정지된 순간을 경험할 수 있게 하는 심미적 기능을 줄 수 있도록 하였다. 본 연구 과정 중에 도자 재료의 특성을 이용한 형태적, 기술적 연구가 더욱 필요하다고 생각되었으며 또한 테이블웨어에 대한 소비자의 인식변화에 맞추어 지속적인 테이블웨어 상품 개발 연구의 필요성을 인식하였다. 앞으로도 끊임없는 테이블웨어 디자인 연구를 통해 테이블웨어가 식생활에서 심리적 안정감을 줄 수 있는 중요한 요소로 인식되어 소비자에게 친근하게 다가갈 수 있기를 바란다.
