초충도 모티브를 활용한 직물 디자인

Abstract

According to the economic growth of the modern society, mankind became to rejoice the richness in terms of the material. But, due to excessive individualism and material supremacy, we became to feel alienated in terms of emotional and find different types of happiness so far. This means they pursue harmonious life and small happiness which they can easily find around. I think these modern trends are easily matched to the images of 'Chochungdo' which gives us emotional stability by eco-friendly and harmonious aspects because 'Chochungdo' is a painting of grass, wild flowers, and in the surrounding full of worms and focused on harmony of nature. The purpose of this study is, utilizing naturalistic motifs that appear in 'Chochungdo', reconstruct the traditional beauty of Korea which express natural beauty, the simplicity and the beauty of the margin. And it is the core of this study that remake pattern designs for modern textile and express modern beauty by deploying color differentiation. Furthermore, I want to propose globally competitive designs. Contents and methods of this study is as follows. First, I mainly used the motif of grass which is well used in pattern designs and supplementary used the motif of insect. This kinds of motive are familiar to the public and can give emotional stability and comfort. Also they are suitable for textile designs because they can express the shapes simply and concisely. Secondly, I mainly used the brown color which comes from the earth. Also I used the neutral colors for vitality and the khaki colors with a sense of depth. These are for expressing the same colors of 'Chochung embroidery folding screen' . Third, I swiched 'Chochoungdo' motifs to digital images. And then I organiged and edited colors and patterns. Also I planed for combining modern design with geometric patterns and floral patterns by square drop repeat method. Fourth, I used 'Sublimation Transfer Techniques'. By this way, I selected each colors can be well expressed to each matrials like synthetic fibers, linen and washing Oxford. This means I took advantage that we can print on the finished fabric. Finally, I basically used Square drop repeat and Half drop repeat. And I proposed the designs can be applied to interior fabrics, accessories, fashion. Through this study, the results obtained are summarized as follows; First, Natural motifs in 'Sinsaimdang''s 'Chochungdo' is very suitable for expressing Korea's emotional beauty, being changed to modern sense and popularization. Also I knew this motif could be designed as our own unique image and the infinite worth of development. Second, I could show the traditional beauty by expressing the visual feeling from sense of touch which came from the traditional techniques of ' Embroidery Chochung Screens'. Also by this way, I could develop the designs which can be sympathized with the public. Third, by preprocessing of 'Sublimation Transfer Technique', I conjugated not only synthetic fibers but also linen, washing Oxford, and velvet. Also I printed in three-dimensional feelings using features of the fabrics(plain weave or double weave). I came to expect the development to high value-added textile by harmony of The material colors and design colors. This is the advantage of 'Sublimation Transfer Technique' which can be printed on the original fabric. Finally, I could feel the succession of Korean emotion and show the possibilities of development for universal design to fit the global era as to express modern sense harmoniously based on the beauty of natural, simplicity and margin of 'Chochungdo'.;현대사회의 경제적인 성장에 따라 인류는 물질적인 면에서 풍족함을 누리게 되었지만, 지나친 개인주의와 물질 지상주의로 인해 정서적인 측면에서는 소외감을 느껴왔으며, 지금까지와는 달리 정서적인 좀 더 인간적인 다른 의미의 행복을 추구하게 되었다. 이렇게 정서적인 안정을 추구하는 경향은, 주변에서 쉽게 찾을 수 있는 소소한 행복을 추구하고, 서로 소통하며 어우러져 사는 삶을 원하는 모습에서 볼 수 있다. 이는 신사임당의 ‘초충도(草蟲圖)’에서 느껴지는 자연 친화적이면서 정서적인 안정감을 주는 이미지와 상통한다고 생각한다. 초충도는 주변에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 야생의 풀과 꽃, 그리고 그 주위의 풀벌레 등을 소재로 하여 자연과의 조화를 중시하는 한국적인 정서를 잘 표현하고 있는 그림이기 때문이다. 본 연구의 목적은 초충도에서 나타나는 자연적 모티브를 활용하여 자연미, 소박미, 여백의 미가 느껴질 수 있도록 한국의 전통적인 아름다움을 재구성하는 것이다. 또한 현대 직물 디자인에 활용되는 패턴 디자인으로 재현함과 동시에 차별화된 색상으로 전개함으로써 현대적 가치로서의 아름다움을 담는 것이 본 연구의 핵심이며 나아가서는 세계적으로 경쟁력 있는 디자인을 제안하는 것이다. 본 연구의 내용과 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 패턴 디자인에서 많이 활용되어지고 사랑 받고 있는 자연의 이미지인 초(草)의 모티브를 중심으로 충(蟲)모티브를 서브 패턴 모티브로 활용하였다. 이러한 모티브는 대중에게 친숙하고 정서적 안정감과 편안함을 줄 수 있으며 형태를 단순하고 간결하게 표현할 수 있어 직물 디자인에 활용하기에 적합하기 때문이다. 둘째, 색상은 자수초충병풍의 색채를 그대로 표현하기 위해 생명력의 근원인 땅에서 발현되는 브라운 색상을 중심으로 친화적인 모티브에 생명력을 불어 넣을 수 있는 뉴트럴군과 성장의 이미지를 연상시키는 그린에서 깊이감 있는 카키군으로 압축하여 전개하였다. 셋째, 초충도 모티브를 디지털 이미지로 전환하여 색채와 문양을 정리하고 수정하였다. 또한 스퀘어드롭 리피트 방법을 활용하여 기하학 패턴, 플로럴 패턴 등을 응용하여 현대적인 디자인으로 접목시킬 수 있게 디자인 하였다. 넷째, 승화전사 기법을 활용하여 디자인의 색채가 잘 구현될 수 있는 소재를 선택하고 완성된 원단 위에 프린트가 가능한 장점을 활용하여 합성섬유 뿐 아니라 린넨, 워싱 옥스퍼드, 압축펠트 등 다양한 소재에 접목하였다. 마지막으로, 작품에 활용된 모티브를 이용한 직물 디자인은 스퀘어드롭 리피트와 하프드롭 리피트를 기본으로 하였으며, 인테리어 직물, 소품, 패션에 적용 가능하도록 제안하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 얻은 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신사임당 초충도의 자연적 모티브는 한국의 정서적인 미를 표현하여 이를 현대적인 감각으로 승화시켜 대중화하기에 적합한 소재임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 모티브는 우리 고유의 독특한 이미지 개발하기 위한 가치가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 자수초충병풍의 전통 기법인 자수, 수묵기법에서 느껴지는 촉각적 질감을 시각적 질감으로 표현함으로 전통의 아름다움을 담아낼 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 표현 방법이 본 연구자의 의도가 나타낼 수 있는 디자인 감성을 대중과 공감할 수 있는 직물 디자인으로 개발할 수 있었다. 셋째, 승화전사 프린트 전, 전 처리 과정을 통해 함성섬유 뿐 아니라 다양한 소재인 린넨, 워싱 옥스퍼드, 벨벳, 압축펠트 등에 접목시켰으며 소재의 조직 특징(평직, 이중직등)을 활용하여 입체적인 느낌이 들 수 있는 디자인으로 프린트 할 수 있었다. 또한 승화전사 프린트의 장점인 원단위에 프린트를 할 수 있는 점을 통해 디자인의 색상과 소재의 색상이 어우러짐으로 새로운 색상을 창출함으로써 소재와 색상이 디자인에 조화롭게 어울려 미적 가치가 향상시킬 수 있는 부가가치를 높일 수 있는 직물로서의 발전 가능성을 확인 할 수 있었다. 넷째, 초충도의 자연미, 소박미, 여백미를 바탕으로 현대적인 감각을 조화롭게 표현함으로써, 한국의 미를 계승할 수 있는 정서적 가치창조와 글로벌 시대에 맞는 세계적인 디자인으로의 발전 가능성을 기대할 수 있었다.
