Due to the advent of ubiquitous age in 21s century, synthesizing a variety of knowledge is more important than simply gaining knowledge. Creativity and synthesis are the topic of education, and in education site, STEAM education, a form of multidisciplinary education, is drawing attention as a new educational flow. Students are able to exhibit their creativity through STEAM education program, create various results, and develop abilities to solve complex problems based on multidisciplinary thinking. Accordingly, this study aims to develop STEAM education program that could easily replace class in regular curriculum and that could enable easy understanding of scientific concepts through artwork production activity. The study also seeks to explore how the developed program affects students’engagement and creative problem solving abilities, and to analyze the creativity exhibited in the product of artwork production activity. The subjects of the application of STEAM education program using artwork production activity in this study were 89 grade 3 students in H elementary school in Seoul. For students’ learning flow, selected from learning flow questionnaire created by Seok, Im Book, Gang, Ih Chul(2007) were used. For creative problem solving ability, Choi, Sun Young, Gang, Ho Gam(2006) was revised, supplemented and reconstituted to be used in this study. T-test, frequency analysis, and others were conducted on collected data using SAS 9.2. The results & conclusions of this study are as follows. First, in this study, STEAM education program that easily replaces class in regular curriculum and that could enable easy understanding of scientific concepts through artwork production activity was developed. The program consists of total of 4 modules and 6 classes, and differentiates composition of creative problem solving level and group organization per module, and constitutes STEAM education program. Second, after applying STEAM education program to the students, significant effects on learning flow were observed(p<.05). Before the implementation, homogeneity in the scores of experimental and control groups was verified, and the difference in the scores of the two groups were statistically significant(p<.01). After testing the 9 sub-factors of learning flow before and after applying STEAM education program in the experimental group, all sub-factors except ‘specific feedback’ and ‘Balance between challenge and ability' had significant effects(p<.05). Thus, the program developed in this study is determined to be effective for improving learning flow of the students. Third, STEAM education program generated significant effects on creative problem solving in Science(p<.05). Before the application of the program, homogeneity in the scores of experimental and control groups was verified, and after the application, the differences between two groups were significantly significant(p<.01). After testing the sub-factors of scientific creative problem solving in Science before and after the application of STEAM education program, the large domains, ‘defining problem’and ‘solving problem’demonstrated significant effects(p<.05). Sub-factor of ‘defining problem’, ‘suggesting various problems’, showed significant difference(p<.05), but no significant difference was observed in ‘selecting appropriate research questions’(p<.01). ‘Contemplating solution’, a sub-factor of ‘solving problem’showed significant difference(p<.01), and so did ‘creating experimental design’(p<.05), but no significant difference was observed in scores of ‘verifying solving method’. Thus, although the program developed in this study seemed to be effective in improving creative problem solving in Science of the students, considering the properties of creative problem solving in Science and that the grade 3 subjects were inexperienced in describing scientific research process and, the program needs to be implemented long-term. Fourth, after analyzing satisfaction of STEAM education program, students’ satisfaction level was generally high at 4.38. Item about the pleasure from learning science through artwork production activity had the highest score of 4.71. Fifth, in the analysis of creativity observed in the products of artwork production activity, in module 1, most subjects ceased at repeatedly performing the teacher’s demonstration. In module 2, most of them were able to successfully design fish of different sizes and shapes adapted to environment based on multidisciplinary thinking of science and art. In module 3, when students were provided with only information about habitat location and characteristics of animals, they were able to creatively draw various animals due to their limited scientific knowledge. In module 4, they were able to understand mimicry of animals and design deemed threatening shape of butterfly wings based on multidisciplinary thinking of science and art. Therefore, in evaluating students’ use of multidisciplinary thinking through analysis of product of artwork production activity.;21세기는 유비쿼터스 시대의 도래로 단순히 지식을 쌓는 것보다 다양한 지식을 어떻게 융합하여 활용할 것인가가 중요하다.
