‘-시-’의 확대 사용 양상에 대한 문법 교육적 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is first to identify the essence of the extended use of "-Si-" by investigating the discourse of the aspects of extended use of "-Si-" found in the service industry, analyzing the actual conditions of use and conducting the survey on user perception. In addition, this study aims to propose improvements of education contents for the honorific language by performing the study of grammatical education based on the results of identifying the essence of the extended use of "-Si-". To investigate the aspects of extended use of "-Si-" found in the service industry, the discourse related data was gathered from the department stores, banks, telecommunication providers, hotels, hospitals, other institutions, etc. that were located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. The survey was conducted with the 120 workers working in the service industry to analyze the actual conditions of use and the user perception. As a result, most workers in the service industry were aware that the extended use of "-Si-" was a wrong expression; however, it was found that they were utilizing such verbal expressions deliberately as a politeness strategy for beneficiaries in order to achieve a successful lingual behavior with customers as well as customer satisfaction and politeness. Base on the aforementioned result, it is no exaggeration to conclude that the use of honorific language in an actual verbal life is a social linguistic phenomenon that can vary depending on the circumstantial context of a discourse or the intention of a speaker regardless of the grammatical system or a speaker's linguistic ability. In other words, the extended use of "-Si-" could be deemed as a subject of criticism according to the normative perspective; however, it could be considered as a pragmatic expression that reflects a speaker's intention of politeness beyond the basic meaning of "-Si-" according to the analytical point of view. This shows that the extended use of "-Si-" is an important issue that should be approached grammatically in order to determine the functions and meanings of "-Si-" appropriately. Thus, this study believes that the extended use of "-Si-" can be actively embraced and addressed as educational content and also it can become important linguistic data for further researches that can extend the grammatical thinking of learners. Whereas the following problems were found as a result of the analysis on the actual conditions of the textbook of "Reading and Grammer I" in accordance with the revised curriculum for 2009. First, the conceptual description inside the main texts of textbooks only provide fragmentary knowledge. Second, those linguistic data allowing us to research various grammatical phenomenons since the honorific language education inside the textbooks gives emphasis to the normative perspective by providing unilinear linguistic data. Third, it is imperative to form a variety of research activities in conjunction with real life rather than those activities of merely confirming the learned knowledge. Fourth, the honorific language education should be reconstructed by being expanded to the dimension of discourse since it is being conducted at the level of sentence. The aforementioned problems associated with the honorific language education reflected in the textbooks can propose the following improvement measures through the essence of extended use of "-Si-". First, it is imperative to "describe the educational content based on discourse․context" in order to promote the perception level of learners that can take various circumstances and contexts into consideration rather than providing the honorific language education that gives emphasis to the normativity as merely confirming fragmented knowledge. Second, it is imperative to "strengthen the educational content based on analytical perspective" that can research a variety of linguistic phenomenons related to an actual linguistic life rather than providing unilinear linguistic data by emphasizing normative perspective. Third, it is required to "describe the education content based on integrated perspective" since the honorific education contents reflected in the textbooks are verbal expressions that should be ignited in conjunction with each other organically in an actual linguistic life even though they are consisted for each subject, counterpart and object honorific system. The honorific language rule is not only a norm but also a strategy; thus, it is necessary to approach it by taking multidimensional layers into consideration. The points worth noting when considering such multidimensional layers are the phenomenon of extended use of "-Si-" and the linguistic phenomenon allowing for developing research skills for interesting Korean language as taking various ignition layers into consideration. Learners will experience significant activities of researching the grammatical phenomenons related to an actual linguistic life in the grammatical education through the essence of phenomenon for the extended use of "-Si-".;본 연구의 목적은 서비스 업종에서 발화되는 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용 양상의 담화를 조사하고 사용 실태를 분석하며 사용자 인식 조사를 함으로써 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용의 본질을 파악한 후, 이를 토대로 문법 교육적 연구를 개진하여 높임법 교육 내용 개선 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 서비스 업종에서 발화되는 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용 양상을 조사하기 위해, 충북 청주시에 위치한 서비스업인 백화점, 은행, 통신사, 호텔, 병원, 기타 등에서 담화 자료를 수집하고 서비스업에 근무하는 종사자 120명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시해 사용 실태와 사용자 인식을 분석했다. 그 결과 대부분 서비스업 종사자들은 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용이 잘못된 표현임을 인지하고 있었으나, 고객과의 성공적인 언어 행위를 달성하고 고객 만족과 공손함을 위해 수혜자 공손 전략으로서 의도적으로 이와 같은 언어 표현을 사용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 사실은 실제 언어생활에서의 높임법 사용이 문법적 체계나 화자의 언어 능력과는 별도로 담화 상황 맥락이나 화자의 의도에 따라 달라질 수 있는 사회적 언어 현상임을 보여준다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 즉 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용은 규범적 관점에 의하면 비판의 대상으로 여겨지나, 해석적 관점에 의하면 ‘-시-’의 기본 의미에서 나아가 화자의 존대 의향이 반영된 화용론적 표현으로 해석될 수 있다. 이는 ‘-시-’의 기능과 의미를 제대로 알기 위해서는 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용이 문법적으로 다루어져야 하는 중요한 언어 현상임을 보여준다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 ‘-시-’ 확대 사용을 교육의 내용으로 적극적으로 포섭해 다룰 수 있으며, 학습자의 문법적 사고력을 확장시킬 수 있는 중요한 탐구의 언어 자료가 될 수 있다고 본다. 한편 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 ‘독서와 문법Ⅰ’ 교과서의 실태 분석 결과, 다음과 같은 문제점이 발견되었다. 첫째, 교과서 본문 내 개념 설명은 단편적인 지식만 제공하고 있다. 둘째, 교과서 내 높임법 교육은 규범적인 관점이 강조되어 단선적인 언어 자료가 제공되고 있기 때문에 다양한 문법 현상을 탐구할 수 있는 언어 자료가 제공되어야 한다. 셋째, 학습한 지식을 확인하는 단순한 활동에 그치는 것이 아니라 실생활과 연계된 다양한 탐구 활동이 구성되어야 한다. 넷째, 높임법 교육은 문장 차원에서 다루어지고 있기 때문에, 담화 차원으로 확대되어 재구성되어야 한다. 이상의 교과서에 반영된 높임법 교육의 문제점은 ‘-시-’ 확대 현상의 본질을 통해 다음과 같이 교육 내용 개선 방안을 제시할 수 있다. 첫째, 단편적 지식 확인에 그치는 규범성이 강조된 높임법 교육에서 벗어나 다양한 상황과 맥락을 고려할 수 있는 학습자의 인식 수준을 도모하기 위해 ‘담화․맥락 중심의 교육 내용이 기술’되어야 한다. 둘째, 규범적 관점이 강조되어 단선적인 언어 자료가 제공되는 것에서 벗어나 실제 언어생활과 관련된 다양한 언어 현상을 탐구할 수 있는 ‘해석적 차원의 교육 내용이 강화‘되어야 한다. 셋째, 교과서에 반영된 높임법 교육 내용은 주체, 상대, 객체 높임법 체계별로 구성되어 있으나 실제 언어생활에서는 이들이 유기적으로 연계하여 발화되는 언어 표현이기 때문에 ‘통합적 관점에서 교육 내용을 기술’해야 한다. 높임법은 규범이면서 하나의 전략이기 때문에 다차원적인 층위를 고려해서 접근하는 것이 필요하다. 이러한 다차원적인 층위를 고려할 때 주목되는 것이 ‘-시-‘ 확대 사용 현상이며, 다양한 발화 층위를 고려한 재미난 국어의 탐구력을 기를 수 있는 언어 현상이다. 학습자들은 ’-시-‘ 확대 현상의 본질을 통해 문법 교육에서 실제 언어생활과 관련된 문법적 현상을 탐구하는 유의미한 활동을 경험하게 될 것이다.
