올리비에 메시앙의 Les Corps Glorieux 분석연구

Abstract

올리비에 메시앙(Olivier Messiaen, 1908-1992)은 20세기 프랑스를 대표하는 작곡가로, 자신만의 독특한 음악어법을 정립하여 많은 특징적인 작품을 남겼다. 또한 그는 60여 년간 파리에 있는 생 트리니테 성당의 오르가니스트를 맡으며 그의 깊은 가톨릭적 신앙심을 오르간 작품에 담았다. 메시앙의 오르간 작품들은 그의 독창적인 음악어법과 생 트리니테 오르간의 음향을 바탕으로 한 음색 조합이 절묘하게 결합되어 하나님의 신비함을 표현한다. 그의 오르간 작품 중 「영광된 몸(Les Corps Glorieux)」은 1939년에 작곡되었으며 7악장으로 구성된, 부활한 생명의 특징과 삼위일체의 신비를 묘사한 곡이다. 각 악장마다 메시앙이 주제로 삼은 성경 구절이나 미사의 기도문이 명시되어있어 그가 표현하고자 한 신학적 이미지를 잘 알 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 「영광된 몸」중 5, 6, 7악장의 분석을 통하여 그가 어떻게 그의 음악어법과 신앙적 상징을 결합하였는지 살펴보았다. 5악장인 <영광된 몸의 힘과 민첩함(Force et Agilité des Corps Glorieux)>은 메시앙의 조옮김이 제한된 선법을 기반으로 한 선율에 그리스 리듬을 적용하여 힘과 긴장감이 넘치는 곡이며, 6악장인 <영광된 몸의 기쁨과 밝음(Joie et Clarté des Corps Glorieux)>은 그리스 리듬의 화성 모티브와 트럼펫 솔로의 자유로운 즉흥연주, 그리고 Tierce 음색을 사용한 차분하고 느린 대화 형태가 대비되는 곡이다. 또한 부가음을 사용한 화음과 4도 구성화음 등 화성적 색채와 오르간 음색의 색채가 어우러져 밝은 느낌을 자아낸다. 7악장인 <거룩한 삼위일체의 신비(Le Mystère de la Sainte Trinité)>는 유일한 대위법적인 악장으로 곡 전체에 신학적 의미를 지닌 숫자의 상징이 쓰였고, 선율에는 몇 가지의 힌두 리듬을 적용하였다. 이처럼 그의 오르간 작품에는 자신만의 독창적이고 체계적인 작곡기법과 색채적인 음향을 자아내는 오르간의 독특한 레지스트레이션이 결합되어있다. 하느님께 영광을 돌리기 위해 모든 것들을 소재로 삼았던 그의 음악어법은 그를 20세기의 위대한 작곡가의 반열에 올려놓았다.;Olivier Messiaen(1908-1992) is a composer that represents 20th century France and has left many distinguishing works through his own unique musical language. He was also an organist at St. Trinité church in Paris for sixty years and has put his catholic faith into his organ works. Messiaen’s organ works express the mistery of God by exquisitely combining his musical language and registration based on sonority of St. Trinité’s organ. His 「Les Corps Glorieux(The Glorified bodies)」 which was composed in 1939 is made up of seven movements and describes characteristics of resurrected body and mistery of trinity. Bible phrase or missal related to subjects Messiaen considered is notated in each movement and this shows the theological image he intended to express. This paper, through analysis of fifth, sixth and seventh movements of 「Les Corps Glorieux」, takes a look at how he combined his musical language and theological symbols. The fifth movement <Force et Agilité des Corps Glorieux(Strength and Agility of the Glorifies bodies)> is a piece full of tension written by applying Greek rhythm to melody which is based on Modes of limited transposition. The sixth movement <Joie et Clarté des Corps Glorieux(Joy and Brightness of the Glorified Bodies)> is a piece with a contrast between improvisation of harmonic motives of Greek rhythm with free trumpet solo and slow, calm dialogue using Tierce stop. Harmonic color such as harmony using added note and the chord in fourth, and color of stops are combined to arouse bright sensations. The seventh movement <Le Mystère de la Sainte Trinité(The Mistery of Saint Trinity)> is the only contrapunctual movement where symbols of numbers which have theological meanings were used and few Hindu rhythms were applied to the melody. His work combines his own original and systematic composition and unique registration of organ which shows colorful sonority. His musical language philosophy which took everything into matter in order to give glory to God allowed him to join the ranks of 20th century’s great composers.
