한국 전통 창살 문양을 이용한 침구 디자인

Abstract

In modern society, there are vigorous cultural exchanges between countries with the development of various information and communication technologies. This allowed us to experience other cultures more easily. Each country's cultural uniqueness disappears, whereas uniform ‘cultural homogeneity’ appears. Several countries are expressing their concern about such a cultural homogeneity. During this process, their unique cultural identity is recovered under the national support and there is an active movement that they let the entire world know their cultural uniqueness. Under such a flow, we got interested in our things; developing products containing Korea's unique identity is an urgent issue; and this is one of the ways to protect our identity and secure competitiveness under this era of globalization. In this study, the researcher is to use Korea's traditional grating patterns containing Korea's unique formativeness. It is because the basic characteristics of Korea's traditional lattice patterns are geometrical and linear, which conforms to the recent trends in the field of home interior: minimalism and modernism. In Korea, with the rapid economic development and changes in the way of living and residential environment, the bedding design has changed greatly since the 1980s. In usual cases, western bedding has been used. In addition, with the changes in sleep routine and residential life, there is a rapid increase and diversification of demands for sleeping gear. With the expanded concept of design in all areas of life, users have desire to decorate their residential environment to their personal tastes and want to have professional and differentiated bedding design. Recently, with the extended activity time and shortened sleep and breaktime, the quality improvement of bedding is required in order to improve the quality of pleasant environment and sleeptime. Therefore, this study aims to re-interpret the formativeness and uniqueness of Korean traditional lattice patterns based on our unique aesthetic consciousness in order to increase the added value of bedding design and develop our competitiveness and present Korean-style designs that our tradition communicates with modernity and in which Korean traditionality is inherent. Our research findings are as follows: First, we looked at the types and characteristics of Korean traditional lattice patterns, analyzed application examples, and extracted the unique formativeness of Korean traditional lattice patterns. Second, we looked at the concept and history of bedding designs and the items of bedding, commonly-used materials, and manufacturing techniques as parts of researches on the bedding design. Third, we selected motives to use Korean traditional lattice patterns, determined the materials, colors, and items, devised works and did sketches, and drew optimal techniques through sampling work. Fourth, we used digital textile printing, machine embroidery, quilting, applique, hand stitch and three-dimensional decorating techniques as manufacturing techniques of bedding design and sketch styling for producing works before drawing up design instructions. Fifth, we had nine design groups in total. Each group coordinated one(1) set of bedding that consisted of a duvet cover and a pillow cover to manufacture props. Our conclusions are as follows: First, the role of a designer like this researcher lies in re-interpreting the flow of the times and customers' requirement based on in-depth researches on the Korean tradition and aesthetic sense and commercializing from a modern viewpoint. Second, if we continue to develop designs containing Korea's unique senses, we can develop modernistic bedding products that can be acknowledged in the world market. Third, we need to expand the area of bedding design as part of living culture that is aesthetically satisfying through the diversity of designs such as discovery of motif containing Korea's unique sensibility, introduction of various manufacturing techniques, and development of new materials. Fifth, we can lay the foundations of swift commercialization because we can precheck the problems that might occur during mass production as well as productivity by manufacturing actual products as well as fashion designs and style designs. Under the present conditions that the uniqueness of design became an important element in this global age, we used Korean traditional lattice patterns and studied the bedding design that modernized Korean traditionality. Therefore, it is expected that this study will be helpful for expanding our customer base into the world market as well as domestic market with differentiated designs from the existing ones. ;현대사회는 다양한 정보통신 기술의 발달로 각 나라의 문화적 교류가 활발하게 일어나고 있다. 이로 인하여 타문화를 쉽게 접하게 되면서 각 나라만이 가지고 있는 문화적 독창성은 사라지고 균일화 되는 ‘문화의 동질화 현상’이 발생되고 있다. 현재 여러 나라에서 이러한 문화의 동질화 현상에 대한 우려를 나타내며, 국가적인 지원 아래 그들의 고유한 정체성을 회복하고, 문화적 독창성을 세계에 알리고자 하는 움직임이 활발하게 일어나고 있다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 우리 역시 우리의 것에 관심을 갖고 고유의 주체성을 담은 제품 개발을 하는 것은 시급한 과제이며, 이는 세계화 시대에 우리의 정체성을 지키며 문화 경쟁력까지 확보하는 방법이라고 생각한다. 본 연구자는 한국만의 독특한 조형성을 가지고 있는 한국 전통 창살 문양을 이용한 침구 디자인을 하고자 하는데, 이는 한국 전통 창살의 문양이 가진 기본적인 특징인 기하학적이고 선(Line)적인 이미지 구성이 홈인테리어 분야의 최근 트렌드인 미니멀리즘(Minimalism)이나 모더니즘(Modernism)과도 잘 부합되기 때문이다. 우리나라의 침구 디자인은 80년대 이후 급격한 경제발전과 생활양식 및 주거환경이 변화하면서 서양식의 침구가 일반적으로 사용되고 있다. 또한 수면과 주거생활에 대한 가치관이 바뀌면서 침구류에 대한 수요가 급격히 증대되고 다양화되었으며, 디자인의 개념이 생활 전반에 걸쳐 확장됨에 따라 사용자들은 개인의 취향에 맞게 주거환경을 꾸미려는 욕구와 더불어 전문화되고 차별화된 침구 디자인을 원하고 있다. 최근에는 활동 시간이 연장되고 수면과 휴식시간이 단축되는 라이프스타일로 인해 짧은 시간 동안 쾌적한 환경과 수면의 질을 높이기 위하여 침구의 질적 향상이 요구되고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 침구 디자인의 부가가치를 높이고 경쟁력을 키우기 위해 우리 고유의 미의식을 바탕으로 한국 전통 창살 문양이 가지는 조형미와 독창성을 재해석하여 전통과 현대가 소통할 수 있고, 한국의 전통성이 내재된 한국적인 디자인을 제시하고자 한다. 논문의 연구내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 전통 창살 문양의 종류와 특징을 살펴보고 응용사례를 분석하여, 한국 전통 창살이 가진 독특한 조형미를 추출한다. 둘째, 침구 디자인에 관한 연구로서 침구의 개념과 역사, 그리고 현재 사용되고 있는 침구의 아이템과 주로 사용되는 소재, 제작 기법 등에 대하여 살펴본다. 셋째, 한국 전통 창살 중 모티프를 선정하고 소재, 색상, 아이템을 정하여 작품 구상을 하고 샘플링 작업을 통하여 최적의 기법을 도출한다. 넷째, 침구 디자인 제작기법으로는 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅(Digital Textile Printing), 기계 자수(Machine Embroidery), 누비(Quilting), 입체 효과 장식 기법 등 기계를 이용한 방법과 트라푼토(Trapunto), 아플리케(Appliqué), 핸드 스티치(Hand Stitch) 등 수공예적인 요소를 접목한 방법을 이용하고 작품의 스타일링을 스케치한 후 작품 제작을 위한 디자인지시서를 작성한다. 다섯째, 디자인은 총 9 그룹으로 각 그룹당 이불커버 1개와 베개커버 2개를 구성하여 침구 1세트로 제작한다. 총 9 그룹의 65점의 침구 제작을 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 한국적 디자인을 할 때 전통과 한국의 미의식에 대해 심도있는 연구를 바탕으로 시대의 흐름과 고객의 요구조건에 맞도록 재해석하여 현대적인 감각에 조화를 이루도록 상품화하는 것이 연구자와 같은 디자이너의 역할이라고 생각한다. 둘째, 한국 전통 창살 문양은 선적인 요소와 구조적인 형태의 독특한 조형성을 가지고 있고, 한국인의 미의식이 내재된 전통 문화로 침구 디자인에 응용하여 한국적 디자인의 현대화를 하는데 좋은 소재가 되었다. 셋째, 한국적 감성이 묻어나는 모티프의 발견, 다양한 제작 기법의 연구, 새로운 소재 개발 등에 의하여 디자인의 다양성을 갖추어 심미적 만족을 주는 생활문화의 중요한 부분으로 침구 디자인 영역을 확대해야 할 것이다. 세계화 시대에 맞추어 디자인의 독창성이 더욱 중요한 요소로 부각되고 있는 상황에서, 한국 전통 창살 문양을 이용하여 한국의 전통성을 현대화한 침구 디자인 연구를 하였다. 본 연구의 내용이 기존의 디자인과 차별화되어 글로벌 마켓에서 경쟁력을 갖춘 디자인 제품으로 자리매김할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
