해식절벽(sea cliff)의 조형미를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

자연의 신비한 생명력과 다양한 색감 및 아름다운 형태는 고대로부터 오늘날까지 많은 예술인들에게 미적 감흥을 제공하는 훌륭한 모티프가 되어왔다. 자연과 함께 공존하며 살아가는 인간은 예술적으로 자연을 재현함으로써 삶을 풍요롭게 하였고, 인간과 자연은 자연환경 속에서 서로 유기적으로 조화를 이루어왔다.“자연은 끊임없이 건설하고 또한 끊임없이 파괴한다. 자연의 공장은 누구도 따를 수 없다. 자연은 살아있는 한 권의 책이다.”는 괴테의 말처럼 자연은 생명의 생성과 성숙, 쇠퇴와 죽음을 통해 끊임없이 순환하고 외부적 요인들과 혼재되어 겹겹이 쌓인다. 이러한 자연의 순환을 통하여 자연은 인간의 힘으로 만들 수 없는 극적인 아름다운 절경을 이루기도 하는데, 절정에 이른 대지의 장관은 다방면의 예술가들에게 영감의 원천이 되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 자연의 변형지물 중 한 종류인 해식절벽의 조형미를 모티프로 테이프 엠브로이더리(tape embroidery) 기법을 활용하여 패션 디자인에 도입함으로써 독창적인 이미지의 의상으로 창출하고자 하였다. 해식절벽을 고찰하기 위하여 침식 및 파식작용으로 인하여 형성된 특이한 지형의 조형적 특징을 분석하고 현존 상태의 지형미학적 측면을 비교 관찰하여 이미지를 형상화하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 해식절벽이라는 자연 지형을 관찰하면서 얻을 수 있는 재질적 조형미를 응용한 작품을 제작함으로써 시간과 공간이 내재된 자연주의 패션디자인으로 표현 영역을 확대하는데 있다. 또한 자연의 조형원리를 이해하고 적합한 소재의 표현을 통해 창의적인 디자인을 제안하는데 있다. 연구 내용 및 방법으로는 해식절벽이 내재하고 있는 입체감과 표면의 질감을 구조적인 관점에서 분류하여 모티프를 도출하고 이를 패션 디자인에 적용시켜 다양한 형태로 표현하고자 하였다. 디자인 표현 방법으로 탈색하는 과정을 거침으로써 자연적인 색감이 드러나게 하였고 탈색된 패브릭을 핸드 컷 테이프(hand-cut tape)의 소재로 하였다. 자체적으로 개발된 테이프를 엠브로이더리 기법을 통해 촘촘한 간격으로 중첩시킴으로써 입체감을 표현하였다. 겹쳐진 테이프의 점진적인 색채변화를 통해 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화하는 지층을 나타내었고 중첩 정도를 부분마다 달리하여 해식절벽의 비정형적인 표면과 질감을 표현하였다. 이와 같은 방법으로 겹겹이 쌓여있는 지층의 입체감과 유기적 선이 드러나는 질감표현 위주의 의상으로 나타내고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 서론에서 연구 목적과 의의, 연구 내용 및 방법을 모색하였다. 이론적인 배경은 세계 각국에 널리 퍼져있는 해식절벽을 조명하고 다양한 층리의 형태와 질감을 조형적으로 비교분석하였으며 테이프 엠브로이더리 기법에 관해 고찰 하였다. 연구 방법은 현지탐사 활동과 더불어 선행연구 및 단행본, 국내외 문헌 자료들을 토대로 사진자료 수집 및 분석, 인터넷검색을 병행하였고 이러한 이론적 배경을 토대로 작품제작을 한 결과 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 해식절벽의 외적 조형성과 수천년에 걸쳐 형성된 독특한 중첩의 질감을 패션디자인에 접목시킴으로써 자연에서 느낄 수 있는 오랜 시간이 내재된 새로운 조형물로 재창조 되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 해식절벽의 재질적 조형미를 패션 디자인에 접목하는 과정에서 테이프 엠브로이더리 기법을 사용함으로써 의상에 입체감과 잔잔한 색채변화를 부가할 수 있었다. 셋째, 다양한 너비의 컷 테이프를 무작위 불규칙으로 나열하고 촘촘한 간격으로 겹쳐 사용함으로써 침식된 해식절벽 표면의 질감을 보다 섬세하게 나타낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 소재를 사용함에 있어서 자연스러운 질감과 색감을 주기 위하여 짙은 농도의 소재를 수차례 탈색하는 과정을 거침으로써 해식절벽 자연의 색채를 표출시킬 수 있었다. 다섯째, 테이프 엠브로이더리 기법을 사용함에 있어서 다양한 소재로 만든 테이프를 불규칙적으로 중첩시키고 테이프의 높낮이를 인위적으로 조절하여 나열함으로써 음각을 주어 소재를 다양하게 표현할 수 있었다. 또한 테이프 엠브로이더리 기법을 응용하여 입체적인 표현을 할 때 테이프의 연결 및 형태유지 방법이 고려되어야 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 여섯째, 연속적인 지층의 형태로 개발된 소재를 드레이핑을 통하여 암석 덩어리의 부조적 재질감을 극대화 하고 공간감을 형성할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 변형지물인 해식절벽의 특징적인 표현을 테이프 엠브로이더리 기법으로 패션에 접목하여 조형 세계로의 가능성을 발견함과 동시에 패션 섬유 소재의 일반적인 개념을 벗어나 다양한 기법을 적용한 아트 섬유로 재창조됨으로써 새로운 표현 재료로 전개하는데 의의가 있다. 아울러 본 연구를 통해 확인했던 자연의 중요성을 토대로 현대 의상디자인의 다양한 표현방법과 소재 개발에 대한 시도와 연구가 계속되어야 할 것이다.;From ancient times to the present, the mysterious vivacity, the various colors, and the morphologic beauty of nature have all been wonderful motives that provide artists with artistic inspiration. Humanity has enriched its cultures by recreating nature in art, and we have lived in organic harmony with our environment. Goethe is known to have said“Nature is always constructing, and always destructing. No one can follow the factory of nature. Nature is a living book”, meaning that nature is constantly circulating, through the means of the creation, the maturation, the decline, and the expiration of life, along with continuous interaction with external factors. This circulation of nature sometimes produces breathtaking beauty impossible to create with the human hand. These beautiful scenes of nature have been the source of inspiration to many artists. The purpose of this study was to research the formativeness of the sea cliff using the taping method, and to produce fashion design with a creative image. To study sea cliffs, the formative characteristics of sea cliffs, which were created due to erosion, were analyzed. Also, the geological aspects were compared and evaluted to create the images. The aim of this study was to apply the formative beauty of sea cliffs as a motif of fashion design, using the tape embroidery method, with the final purpose of creating original articles of clothing. In order to analyze sea cliffs, the formative beauty of sea cliffs was analyzed according to the geometric and artistic aspects, and the images were formed subsequently. The aim of this study was to observe sea cliffs and produce fashion design articles with the innate material formative beauty, consequently expanding the ranges of naturalim to include both time and space. Also, to suggest a creative design from usage of the appropriate material. Methodologically, the three-dimensional effect and geological type of the sea cliff was categorized, and each motive was applied to fashion design. In respect to design expression, the original fabric was bleached to express a natural color. Hand-cut tape was used as the tailored fabric, which was overlapped using the tape embroidery method, to express a three-dimensional effect. A gradual color change was given to the overlapped taping, to express the gradation of stratum. The degree of overlap was differentiated to express the atypical surface and texture of the geology. With these methods, a unique fabric expressing the characteristics of multi-layered, three-demensional stratum and its organic curves was created. The present study discussed the purpose, the meaning, the materials and methods in the introduction. The theoretical background was formed by investigating sea cliffs around the world, analyzing the various types based on each model, and discussing the tape embroidery method. Research was performed by field trips, researching previous studies, searching for photographic material, and performing internet searches. Conclusions based on this theoretical background were as follows. First, by investing the exterior formativeness and the chracteristic overlapping of the sea cliff formed over thousands of years into fashion design, the researcher was able to infer that it was possible to create original fashion articles out of nature. Second, by using the tape embroidery method in the process of investing the geometrical pattern of the sea cliff into fashion design, it was possible to express a three-dimensional effect, and delicate color gradation. Third, by partially cutting fabric of various patterns, and by overlapping fabric irregularly, it was possible to express the intricate patterns that exist on the surface of sea cliffs. Fourth, by bleaching deep-colored fabric many times, a natural color inherent to the sea cliff, and a more natural texture was expressed. Fifth, by overlapping tape of many types of material and controlling the height of tape, atypical material were expressed. Also, it was inferred that when expressing a three-dimensional effect, methods to maintain the shape should be considered. Sixth, by draping the layered fabric in a three-dimensional fashion, the structural texture of petrography and the sense of space was maximized. This study is meaningful in that it invested the characteristics of sea cliffs into fashion design, using the tape embroidery method, and that the conventional principles of fashion fabric were outdone, to use various methods, recreate art fabric, and express new material. Further trials and studies based on the findings of the present study, which emphasize the importance of nature and the variable expression of contemporary fashion design, seem feasible.
