Abstract
In Korea, English education starts from the third grade in public elementary schools. Most of the young learners before this age attend English kindergartens or private English institutes to learn English. A lot of private English institutes use American textbooks which are written for English native children. However, one of the problems of using the L1 books for L2 language classrooms is that the materials do not provide language support for the L2 learners. In books designed for young learners, a variety of stimulating activities are vital for maintaining their motivation (Pinter, 2006, p.37). Moreover, the opportunity for authentic communication is important since language interaction can promote L2 learning (Willis, 1996, p.35). Therefore, building an enjoyable and communicative environment is essential to motivate and encourage young learners to learn a language.
