청소년이 지각한 부모-자녀 간 의사소통과 역기능적 신념이 우울에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parent-adolescent communication and adolescents' dysfunctional beliefs on adolescents’ depression of adolescent boys and girls. The subjects were 365 10th and 11th grade adolescents (192 boys and 173 girls) who were attending high schools in Seoul and Gyoung-gi Do. Data were collected via questionnaires, rated by adolescents themselves and were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) using AMOS 21.0. The main results of this study were as follows: First, father-adolescent communication and mother-adolescent communication did not have a direct effect on adolescents' depression. Second, father-adolescent communication and mother-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on adolescents' depression through adolescents' dysfunctional beliefs. Finally, there were significant gender differences in indirect pathways from parent-adolescent communication to children's adolescents' depression through adolescents' dysfunctional beliefs. In other words, for boys, paternal communication influenced depression indirectly through dysfunctional beliefs, and for girls, maternal communication had an indirect effect on depression through dysfunctional beliefs. In conclusion, parental communication affected adolescents' depression indirectly through adolescents' dysfunctional beliefs, and there were significant differences in pathways between boys and girls. Considering this gender differences, intervention programs of adolescents' depression need to focus on differential aspects based on gender of adolescents. Especially, the findings that boys were significantly affected by paternal communication and girls were influenced by maternal communication supported the same-sex linkage hypothesis. In addition, adolescents' dysfunctional beliefs was a major effect on adolescents' depression. This result confirmed that adolescents' intrapersonal characteristic, especially dysfunctional beliefs, was an important variable leading to adolescents' depression.;본 연구에서는 부모-자녀 간 의사소통과 청소년의 역기능적 신념이 청소년의 우울에 영향을 미치는 경로를 살펴보고, 그 경로에서의 성차도 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 서울 · 경기도 소재 남자 고등학교 2곳과 여자 고등학교 1곳에 재학 중인 365명의 남녀 청소년을 대상으로 질문지법을 이용해서 자료를 수집하였다. 부모-자녀 간 의사소통은 Barnes와 Olson(1982)이 개발한 부모-자녀 간 의사소통 척도(Parent Adolescent Communication Inventory; PACI)를 민하영(1991)이 번안한 청소년 자녀용 질문지를 사용하여 측정하였다. 청소년의 역기능적 신념을 측정하기 위해 조용래와 원호택(1999)이 개발한 역기능적 신념검사를 홍세희와 조용래(2006)가 36개 문항으로 단축한 자기 보고형 검사를 사용하였다. 또한 청소년의 우울은 Radoloff(1977)의 역학연구센터 우울 척도(The Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale; CES-D)을 조맹제 · 김계희(1993)이 번안한 한국판 CES-D 척도를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 t 검증 및 상관관계분석을 실시하였고, AMOS 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Modeling)을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부-자녀 및 모-자녀 간 의사소통은 청소년의 우울과 상관관계가 있었지만, 부모-자녀 간 의사소통이 청소년의 우울에 미치는 경로에서는 직접적인 영향을 미치는 경로는 발견되지 않았다. 둘째, 부-자녀 및 모-자녀 간 의사소통은 청소년의 역기능적 신념을 통해 청소년의 우울에 간접적으로 영향을 미쳐, 아버지와 어머니가 자녀와 덜 개방적이고 폐쇄적인 의사소통을 할수록 청소년의 역기능적 신념이 높았으며, 역기능적 신념이 높을수록 청소년의 우울은 높았다. 마지막으로, 부모-자녀 간 의사소통이 청소년의 역기능적 신념을 통해 청소년의 우울에 영향을 미치는 경로는 남녀 청소년 모두 동성 부모와의 관계에서만 발견되었다. 즉, 아버지가 덜 개방적이고 폐쇄적인 의사소통을 많이 할수록 남자 청소년의 역기능적 신념이 높아졌고 이는 청소년의 우울을 초래하였으며, 여자 청소년의 경우에는 어머니와 덜 개방적이고 폐쇄적인 의사소통을 할수록 청소년의 역기능적 신념이 높았고 결과적으로 우울을 많이 경험하였다. 본 연구는 부모-자녀 간 의사소통이 남녀 청소년의 역기능적 신념을 통해 청소년의 우울에 영향을 미치는 경로를 확인하였고, 그 경로에 있어 성차가 있음을 발견하였다. 또한 청소년의 우울의 선행 변인인 부모-자녀 간 의사소통과 남녀 청소년의 역기능적 신념 가운데 역기능적 신념의 상대적 영향력을 밝힘으로써, 청소년의 인지적 측면이 우울에 중요함을 발견할 수 있었다. 아울러, 부-자녀 및 모-자녀 간 의사소통을 동시에 고려할 때 동성 부모의 의사소통에서만 청소년의 우울에 이르는 경로가 나타나, 동성 부모의 상대적 영향력을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과를 통해 본 연구는 부모-자녀 간 의사소통 증진 및 부모 교육 프로그램과 우울 치료 또는 예방 프로그램의 기초자료로 활용됨으로써 청소년의 심리적 건강에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
