균형적 언어 접근법을 이용한 한글 교육 앱북 제안

Abstract

아이폰, 아이패드를 위시한 스마트 디바이스의 등장으로 전자책이라는 새로운 개념이 생겨남에 따라 사람들의 책을 소비하는 방법에 큰 변화가 일어났다. 특히 전자책 시장은 아동을 대상으로 한 교육 시장이 크게 활성화되어 있는데 인쇄기반 그림책에서는 찾아 볼 수 없는 다양한 멀티미디어와 상호작용요소들이 아동의 학습에 효과적이기 때문이다. 앱북(App Book)은 전자책의 하나로 하나의 전자책이 하나의 앱 형태로 출시되는 형태를 말한다. 본 연구는 앱북의 많은 교육 콘텐츠 중 아동을 대상으로 한 한글 교육에 중점을 두기로 하였다. 한글 지도 방법에는 전통적으로 기능 중심 접근법과 의미 중심 접근법, 균형적 언어 접근법이 존재한다. 기능 중심 접근법은 글의 음절, 자·모음을 따로 분리하여 학습하는 방법이며 의미 중심 접근법은 그림책을 활용하여 자연스럽게 글을 익히도록 유도하는 방법이다. 균형적 언어 접근법은 두 방법의 장점을 균형 있게 사용하여 그림책의 전체 의미를 파악하는 과정에서 글의 음절, 자·모음을 병행하여 배우도록 한다. 아동의 사고와 발달과정을 고려할 때 두 방법 모두 필요하며 따라서 아동의 한글 학습에는 균형적 언어 접근법이 가장 적합하다. 만 4~8세 아동을 대상으로 한 한글 교육 앱북은 의미 중심 접근법과 기능 중심 접근법을 이용한 것이 대부분이며 균형적 언어 접근법을 이용한 앱북은 거의 찾아볼 수 없다. 의미 중심 접근법 앱북은 아동의 흥미를 유발 하는 데는 뛰어나나 정작 한글 교육은 미비하며 반대로 기능 중심 접근법 앱북은 한글 학습 효과는 뛰어나나 아동의 흥미를 유발하지 못 해 지속적인 학습이 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 균형적 언어 접근법을 사용하여 기존의 기능 중심 접근법과 의미 중심 접근법 형태의 한글 교육 앱북의 단점을 개선하고 흥미성과 교육성을 모두 가진 한글 교육 앱북을 만드는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 균형적 언어 접근법의 특성을 가진 한글 교육 앱북을 만들기 위해 균형적 언어 접근법의 교수방법인 ‘전체-부분-전체’를 적용하여 기존의 그림책과 같이 그림과 지문을 통해 이야기의 ‘전체‘를 이해하고 지문의 단어들을 통해 ’부분‘을 학습할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 개인의 수준에 맞는 교육을 중요시하는 균형적 언어 접근법의 특징을 반영해 ’문장-음절-자·모음-문장’으로 학습의 단계를 나누었다. 각 단계는 스토리는 같지만 같은 내용의 반복의 지루함을 피하기 위해 상호작용 요소에 차이점을 두었다. 본 연구에서 제시된 프로토타입은 기존의 한글 교육 앱북과는 다른 새로운 형태의 앱북이라는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 그러나 본 연구에서 사용된 그림책의 단어들은 균형적 언어 접근법을 사용할 것을 의식하여 그에 맞게 단계별로 구성된 것이 아니라는 한계가 있다. 추후 연구에서 아동의 읽기 학습에 알맞은 단계의 단어들로 이루어진 이야기를 사용하면 한글 학습에 더 효과적일 것으로 기대된다. 또한 실제 아동을 대상으로 지속적인 사용성 평가를 실시하여 교육성을 검증하는 것이 필요하다.;With the advent of smart devices such as iPhone and iPad, e-book has changed the way how people read books. Especially e-book is heavy-weight in the education markets because it’s variety of multimedia and interaction can enhance the infant’s learning. Among many educational contents, this study focus on Hangul education for infants. Traditionally, the methods of Hangul study include phonics approach, meaning approach, balanced language approach. Meaning approach is the method that infants can learning words naturally through picture book. On the other hand, phonics approach is the method that teaching syllables, consonants, vowels separate from the story. Balanced language approach is the balanced way between phonics approach and meaning approach that learning syllables, consonants, vowels in process of understanding whole story of picture book. Two methods are both necessary for infants considering their development, so balanced language approach is the most proper way to educate Hangul for infants. App books using phonics approach and meaning approach are occupying most of the market but the app book using balanced language approach is nonexistent. App book using meaning approach is excellent in causing interest but it’s effectiveness of education is weak. On the contrary, app book using phonics approach is excellent in educating Hangul but it is difficult to keep infants studying for it's lack of interest. The objective of this study is to complement weak points of existing Hangul education app books which use phonics approach or meaning approach, by using balanced language approach and to create the book having both entertaining and educational value. In this study, 'Whole-Part-Whole', a teaching method of balanced language approach, is used to let infants understand the 'Whole' story by pictures and texts and learn 'Part' by words in text. There are 'Sentence-Syllables-Consonants and Vowels-Sentence' steps to reflect the characteristic of balanced language approach attaching importance to suitable education for individual level. At each level, several differences in interactivity are existing to avoid boredom from the repeated story. The prototype in this study is significant in the aspect that the book is differentiated from existing Hangul education app books in its type and form. The limit of this study is that words from the picture book is composed without considering individual levels in the aspect of balanced language approach. In the further study, using a story with suitable words for reading learning of infants will bring much effect on learning Hangul. Moreover, it is necessary to verify its educational value by conducting continuous usability tests for infants.
