식물의 유기적 형태와 몸짓 표현

Abstract

The ecological mechanism of plants in which tiny seeds sprout, bloom flowers, bear fruits, and back to the seeds again, always gives surprise to us. The life energy of nature is very natural and seems beautiful and peaceful as much as their flowers and fruits. Looking into it, however, it seems like the struggles as it survives from the atmosphere of the earth and sky, grows, and revives by spreading the seeds all over the world. To me, such vitality of the plants is felt like a pure desire and I have explored esthetic factors in it by responding my heart to plants through long observation. This thesis aims to investigate the image of life energy formulated based on my personal experience gained through the observation of plants and study the configuration method and contents. First of all, this study compared and redefined plant and animal properties focusing on the subtitle of "Recovery of Plant Properties". Here, it was found that plants were not insensible and passive existence but active one overcoming the restriction of roots for survival and dominance. Considering the birth and ecological aspects, I also confirmed that animals are already in the realm of the plant and I also have the properties of plants. This study also reviewed how the ecology of plants functions organically, and named the life energy of the plants occurred in the process "selfish energy". Next, this study reviewed concepts of play and intuition as my artistic attitude and method. In the aspect of artistic expression, this study studied various concepts and opinions on the play represented in the Orient and the West, in order to find out how the play and intuition work. Then, through the aura (氣) and amusement (興) in oriental philosophy, it explained that play may turn into artistic energy. It also studied an intuitive way of thought in western modern philosophy that corresponds to them. As for figurative perspective, this study explained on how play and intuition are expressed by classifying them as intuitive drawing and immersion, playful expression of using the brush and colorful expression based on play and intuition as the basic attitude of artistic activities. This study gave an opportunity to investigate how the work themes of mine which are the rediscovery of plant features and responding to myself are expressed in actual work along with the artistic attitudes that are represented as play and intuition.;아무 움직임도 없을 것 같던 작은 씨앗에서 싹이 나고 꽃을 피우고 열매를 맺고 다시 씨앗을 뿌리는 식물의 생태는 우리에게 언제나 놀라움을 준다. 자연의 생명 에너지는 매우 자연스러워서 언뜻 그들의 꽃이나 열매만큼이나 아름답고 평화롭게 보이기도 한다. 그러나 자세히 들여다보면 한 자리에 뿌리내려 땅과 하늘을 동시에 견디며 성장하고 소멸과 동시에 사방에 씨를 퍼뜨리며 재생하는 모습이 오히려 투쟁과 같다. 본인에게 이러한 식물의 생명력은 순수한 욕망 자체로 느껴졌고 오랜 관찰을 통해 식물과 마음을 조응하며 그 안에서 미적 요소를 탐구하였다. 본 논문은 식물 관찰을 통해 얻은 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로 형상화한 생명 에너지 이미지를 살펴보고 조형방법과 내용을 연구하고자 하였다. 먼저 식물성의 재발견이라는 소주제를 중심으로 식물성과 동물성에 대해 비교 및 재정의 하였다. 여기서 식물이란 무감각하고 수동적인 존재가 아니라 생존과 지배를 위해 뿌리의 제약을 넘어 적극적으로 움직이는 능동적인 존재임을 발견하였다. 그리고 탄생과 생태적인 면을 고려했을 때 동물은 이미 식물의 영역 안에 있음을 인정하고, 동물인 자신 역시 식물적인 기질을 갖고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 식물 생태가 어떻게 유기적으로 작동하는지를 살펴보고 이 과정에서 발생하는 식물의 생명 에너지를 ‘이기적인 에너지’라고 명명하였다. 이어 본인의 예술적 태도와 방법으로써 유희와 직관의 개념을 살펴보았다. 예술표현의 측면에 있어서 유희와 직관이 어떻게 기능하는지를 먼저 동·서양에 나타난 유희에 대한 여러 가지 개념과 견해를 살펴보고 그중 동양사상에서 기(氣)와 흥(興)의 개념을 통해 유희가 예술적 에너지로 승화될 수 있음을 설명하였다. 그리고 이에 대응하는 서양 현대철학에서의 직관적 사유방식에 대하여 알아보았다. 조형적 연구에서는 앞서 언급한 유희와 직관을 예술 활동의 기본 태도로 삼아 구체적으로 어떻게 표현하는지를 직관적 그리기와 몰입, 운필(運筆)의 유희적 표현 그리고 상징적 표현으로서의 색으로 나누어 설명하였다. 본 연구를 통해 식물성의 재발견 및 자아와의 조응이라는 작품내용이 유희와 직관으로 대표되는 본인의 예술 활동의 태도와 더불어 실제 작품 속에서 어떻게 표현되었는지 살펴볼 기회를 가졌다.
