실비아 네이사의 소설 『뷰티풀 마인드』를 바탕으로 한 무용창작작품 「두 개의 달」에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날 현대사회는 급속한 산업화로 도시화되어가고 있으며, 서비스 산업의 확대로 점차 복잡해지면서 인간의 사회적 고립현상은 날로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 도시화와 고립화로 인간은 정서적으로 불안할 뿐만 아니라 정신적으로도 많은 스트레스를 받게 되면서 정신질환과 같은 사회적 질병으로 어려움을 겪고 있다. 그 중에서도 특히 정신분열은 사고, 의욕, 감정, 감각, 행동 등 인격의 각 측면에서 부정적인 증상을 일으키는 병으로 치유보다는 만성화로 이어지는 특징을 지닌 정신질환이다. 이러한 만성화로 인해 증상이 회복과 재발을 반복함에 따라 사회로부터 고립시키는 것뿐만 아니라 사회적 유대감마저 단절시킨다. 더욱 심각한 것은 지속적인 치료로 인해 가중되는 경제적 부담으로 환자나 가족 모두의 인격적 황폐화를 가져올 수 있는 질병이라는 것이다. 이에 연구자는 본 무용창작작품을 구상하면서 심리적, 정서적 장애로 인해 일탈행동을 하게 되는 정신질환자들의 사회적 배경을 인지하고, 그들 스스로의 노력과 가족의 도움으로 삶의 가치를 찾고, 올바른 자아실현을 이루는데 연구의 의의를 두었다. 본 연구는 실비아 네이사(Sylvia Nasar)의 소설『뷰티풀 마인드(A Beautiful Mind)』(2002)를 바탕으로 안무한 무용창작작품「두 개의 달」(2013)에 대한 분석으로 이루어진다. 작품은 무너진 정신 속에 타인의 도움을 받아가면서 자신의 정체성을 깨닫고 가치관을 재정립하여 삶의 방향을 모색하는 과정으로 구성된다. 무용창작작품「두 개의 달」에서는 작품의 주제인 정신분열의 발병과 회복을 전달하기 위해 환상세계와 현실세계로 나누어 무대공간을 구분하였다. 작품은 환상과 현실사이에서 오는 의식 불균형을 주제로 세 개의 장으로 구성하였으며, 환상의 상징과 매개, 표현수단인 오브제를 통해 작품의 주제를 효과적으로 전달하고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 주제 및 내용, 장면별 구성, 이동경로와 움직임, 오브제의 이미지로 분석하였다. 작품 1장에서는 현실세계에서 환상세계로의 이끌림을 거부하지만 그럼에도 점점 다가오는 상황의 혼란을 표현하고자 하였다. 음악은 기차소리 효과음을 넣어 현실에서 환상으로 들어가는 장면을 표현하였고, 무대 뒤 중앙에 고정된 탑조명을 사용하여 현실세계의 공간을 나타내었다. 또한 동작은 그 조명 안에서만 이루어지게 하여 현실 공간에서 벗어나지 못하는 모습을 보이며 머리카락을 이용한 이미지 형상과 옷의 움직임으로 혼란의 상태를 표현하고자 하였다. 오브제는 환상을 상징하는 새 등을 하수 뒤쪽에 배치하였고 검정색 옷을 그 위에 덮어 환상의 공간이 아닌 현실의 공간임을 상징하도록 하였다. 새 등에 덮었던 검정색 옷은 환상과 현실의 매개 역할로 무용수가 옷을 탑조명 안에서 바깥으로 던짐으로써 현실에서 환상으로 들어가는 장면을 나타내었다. 2장에서는 현실세계에서 환상세계로 넘어간 후 오는 정신분열의 혼돈이 무용수를 지배하여 나타나는 움직임들로 구성하였고, 이러한 긴박한 움직임들을 더욱 부각시키기 위해 빠르고 음률의 높낮이 효과가 큰 음악을 사용하였으며, 환상을 상징하는 몽환적 느낌의 외각이 둥근 전체조명과 환상이 더욱 집약된 공간을 상징하는 직사각형의 조명을 사용하였다. 움직임은 빠른 속도감을 주어 정신분열 증세를 지니고 있는 무용수의 긴박한 심리상태를 나타내고자 하였다. 또한 새 등을 덮고 있던 검정 옷을 입음으로써 환상으로 잠식해가는 무용수A의 상태를 나타내고 종이를 찢거나 구김으로써 정신분열의 증상을 더욱 부각시켜 나타내었다. 3장에서는 타인의 도움을 받아 환상세계에서 현실세계로 다시 돌아오는 장면으로 이루어져 있다. 이것은 도입부와 마찬가지로 다시 기차소리 효과음과 무대 중앙의 탑조명을 사용하여 환상에서 현실로의 탈출구 이미지를 형상화하였다. 움직임은 초조하고 흥분된 상태의 1장, 2장과는 달리 현실세계에서 자아를 찾아가는 회복의 분위기를 표현하는 안정되고 차분한 동작구들로 구성하였다. 오브제는 제 모습을 드러내어 환상의 상태임을 암시하던 새 등위에 검정 옷을 다시 덮음으로써 현실로 돌아오는 장면을 나타내었다. 연구자는 작품「두 개의 달」을 통해 정신분열증 환자가 현실세계의 욕구불만과 괴리로 인해 상실된 자아를 스스로 되찾고, 주변의 사랑과 돌봄이라는 유대감 형성으로 질병을 슬기롭게 극복해나가는 모습을 표현하고자 하였다. ;Nowadays modern society has been urbanized owing to quick industrialization, and social isolated phenomena of mankind have been increased day by day while it has been complicated gradually because of expended service industry. Human are suffering from social diseases like schizophrenia by getting a lot of stresses mentally in addition to unstable emotions by being derived from such urbanization and isolation. Specially, schizophrenia belongs to a disease that causes negative symptoms from every aspect of personality among them such as thought, motivation, emotion, sense, and actions etc., and it corresponds to a mental illness disease having characteristics of becoming connected to chronicity rather than healing. Repeated symptoms of recovery and relapse by this chronicity make human isolated from the society and sever social connectedness as well. More serious matter is that this disease could bring about all moral devastation of patient or family members owing to economic burdens by constant medical treatments. Thus, researcher recognized social background of mental illness patients who became to do delinquent behaviors because of psychological, emotional impediments while devising a creative dance work, and became to lay the research meaning in making them found out the value of life by assistances of family members together with personal efforts, and then achieved correct self-realization. This study is composed of analysis on the newly choreographed work 「Two Moons」based on 『A Beautiful Mind)』(2002), novel of Sylvia Nasar. The work is formed as seeking course on life directions by receiving other’s helps under collapsed mental, being award of own identity, and then reestablishing the values. 「Two Moons」, the newly choreographed work classified the stage space into fantasy world and reality world in order to deliver onset and recovery of schizophrenia that is the subject of work. The work formed 3 chapters with the subject of awareness imbalances come from the gap between fantasy and reality, and intended to deliver the subject of work effectively through objet as symbol, mediation, and expressing means of fantasy. Therefore, the study analyzed subject and contents, composition by scenes, path and movement through the objet image. In chapter 1 of work, this intended to express confusion of situations that have been approached gradually even though rejecting the lead from reality world to fantasy world. In relation with music, the work expressed scenes entering into fantasy from reality by putting in an effect sound of train, and displayed the space of reality world by using tower light fixed to the center of stage backside. Also, this work made actions formed only in the light, and intended to express confused state with cloth movement together with image shape using hairs while showing the figure of not getting out of reality space. Regarding to object, the study arranged the bird symbolizing fantasy to sewage backside, and made it symbolize reality space instead of fantasy space by covering black color cloth on the bird. Black color cloth having covered the bird etc. did a mediating role between fantasy and reality, and the scene of going into fantasy from reality was displayed by throwing the cloth from inner top light to outside. Chapter 2 was composed of movements shown from governing the dancer by the confusion of schizophrenia come out after passing over to fantasy world from reality world, and the music having quick, high music tone and rhythm was used for highlighting such urgent actions further, and rectangular light symbolizing more intensive space of fantasy together with total light that was round outside and had dreamy feelings which symbolized the fantasy were used too. Movements gave fast sense of speeds, and tried to display imminent psychological state of the dancer who had symptom of schizophrenia. In addition, by wearing the black cloth that covered the bird etc, it showed the state of dancer who was encroached to fantasy, and the symptom of schizophrenia became to be highlighted by tearing or crumpling papers. Chapter 3 consisted of the scene on coming back to reality world again from fantasy world by getting other’s helps. This shaped exit images to reality from fantasy by using top light of stage center together with train effect sound again just like introduction part. Movements were made with stable, calm actions expressing recovery atmospheres that found out self in reality world differently from Chapter 1 and 2 which were in nervous and excited states. Objet displayed the scene of coming back to reality by covering the black cloth on bird back implying fantasy state by exposing own figure. This researcher intended to express the figure such like the mental illness patient regained lost self derived from frustration and gap in reality world in person, and then recovered the disease wisely by forming connectedness called love and care of surrounding people through the work 「Two Moons」.
