무용구술사를 통한 새로운 한국근현대무용사 쓰기의 가능성 모색

Abstract

Oral memories of the past, the primary language for the statement is used as input to the study of history. Dance is characterized by the none formed arts while performing at the moment and disappearing without a trace. Thus, oral history of dance is a very useful way to write on dance history and reconstruction of dance. Oral history of dance is aiding dancers to leave records of their dances by their own voice, and the spirit of their arts to be passed to future generations should be able to preserve. Because oral history targets living dancers who are the subject of dance area, texts of oral history for dancers reflected dancers' own vision. Therefore, oral history of dance to complement the limitations of existing dance history, and oral dance history could be an alternative and further enables a new dance history writing. In the meantime, published Korean dance history books are mostly concluded in the early 20th century when the premodern dance was sprouted. Lack of dance resources has provided an excuse for researchers to avoid writing dance history since the mid to late 20th century. In addition, even if some dance history books include modern Korean dance, those are uniformly utilize the same resources, and without taking into consideration the perspective of a dancer from the perspective of descriptors has been shall describe. Above all, the biggest blind spot of the existing literature of Korea dance history listed historic dance events in chronological order. Oral dance history from contemporary dance history feeds supplement can dance as well as to identify specific information in that lets dance researchers describe modern dance history will be able to open up new horizons. This dissertation relies on the oral dance history of dancers who experienced modern dance era and memories that took the body of a dancer based in modern dance history. Chapter II deals the theoretical background for oral history. In this chapter, meaning of writing a new history and role of oral history, local oral history's status and issues and local oral dance history's status and issues are examined. Then, I raised the need for oral dance history in the Chapter III, and the oral dance history methodology and utilizing a range of oral dance history will be presented. Chapter IV examines existing literature of Korean dance history and oral dance history texts from 2008 to 2009 at the Arko Arts Archive (now the National Archive for the Performing Arts). Finally, in the interregnum, called modern dance history of Korea during the Japanese occupation and Korean war which called vacant space. With oral dance history texts, I will attempt to write about new dance history missing points and errors found from existing literature. Also, I will presented several maps, family tree of dance, and pictogram for modern Korean dance culture in the 20th century. The oral history recorded by the experiences and memories of dancers in the center of a huge epic in dance history. Writing new Korean dance history based on oral history to move away from the stereotypical view of history gives abundant nourishment. Oral dance history, especially for dancers who have lived Japanese Occupation, Liberation and Division, the Korean War, Revolution, Restoration, Dictatorship, Democratization led to the liberation in modern and contemporary dance history. In near future these records will aid not only dance history researchers write alternative dance history, but also to attempt to write history in many ways. Hope this dissertation contributes to development of new horizons for dance history writing.;구술사는 과거의 기억에 대한 언어진술을 주된 자료로 활용하는 역사연구이다. 공연되는 순간에 흔적도 없이 사라지는 춤의 기록과 재건에서 무용인의 구술사는 매우 유용한 방법이다. 무용구술사는 무용가가 안무하고 춤추고 교육하는 방식을 본인의 목소리로 남기는 기록이며, 그의 예술 정신이 후대까지 전달될 수 있도록 보존할 수 있게 한다. 생존해 있는 무용가를 대상으로 하는 무용구술사는 춤의 주체자인 무용가의 시각이 반영되며, 그의 소리로 기록하는 것이 특징이다. 그러므로 무용구술사는 기존 무용사의 한계점을 보완하는 대안적 무용사가 될 수 있으며, 나아가 새로운 무용사 쓰기를 가능하게 한다. 그동안 출간된 한국무용사의 대부분은 근대무용이 발아될 무렵인 20세기 초기에 종지부를 찍고 있으며, 무용사가들은 사료 부족을 이유로 20세기 중후반 이후의 무용사에 대한 서술을 꺼려 왔다. 또한, 근현대무용사를 포함한 문헌이라 할지라도 거의가 동일 사료를 활용하여 천편일률적으로 서술하였으며, 무용사의 주인공이라 할 수 있는 무용가의 시각을 외면한 채 서술자 중심적 시각에서 기술해 왔다. 무엇보다도 기존 한국무용사 문헌들의 가장 큰 맹점은 무용사적 사건을 연대기 순으로만 나열하며, 춤의 실체에 대한 서술이 결여되어 있다는 점이다. 무용구술사는 한국근현대무용사에서 누락된 춤사료의 결락을 보완해 줄 뿐만 아니라 춤의 전모를 구체적으로 파악 할 수 있게 해 준다. 따라서 무용구술사는 한국근현대무용사 서술에 새로운 지평을 열어줄 수 있는 것이다. 본 논문은 문자 자료에 의존하는 무용사 서술 방식을 뛰어 넘어, 근현대시기를 거쳤던 무용가들의 몸의 체험과 기억에 기반을 둔 무용구술사를 통해 한국근현대무용사를 위한 새로운 역사쓰기의 가능성을 모색하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 연구자는 제II장에서 이론적 배경으로 새로운 역사쓰기의 의미와 구술사의 역할, 그리고 국내 구술사 및 무용구술사의 현황과 쟁점에 대해 논의하였다. 제III장에서는 무용구술사의 필요성을 제기한 후 무용구술사의 방법론과 활용범위를 제시하였다. 제IV장에서는 기존 한국근현대무용사 문헌과 2008~2009년 한국문화예술위원회 아르코예술정보관(현 국립예술자료원)의 무용구술채록문 내용을 분석하였다. 마지막으로 한국근현대무용사에서 공백기로 불리는 해방공간기와 한국전쟁 시기를 중심으로 기존 근현대무용사 서술에서 누락된 점, 오류 및 논쟁 지점을 찾아 무용구술채록문으로부터 근거자료를 추출하여 한국근현대무용사의 서술을 보완하는 사례를 제시하였다. 그리고 20세기 한국춤문화의 지형도를 일별할 수 있도록 20세기 한국무용교육기관의 일람표, 1950년대 서울시내 무용학원의 지도, 춤양식별 계보도를 작성하여 새로운 한국근현대무용사 쓰기의 사례로 제시하였다. 또한, 두 사례를 작성하는 과정에서 해방 이후 2000년까지의 한국무용사 연표, 국립예술자료원 2008~2009년 무용구술채록문의 색인목록, 국립예술자료원의 2008~2009년 무용분야 구술자 정보 및 채록문의 상세목록을 정리하여, 이를 부록으로 제시하였다. 결론적으로, 구술사를 방법으로 해서 기록한 무용인들의 체험과 기억을 담은 무용구술사는 무용사 자료의 양적, 질적 한계를 넘어 서게 하고 거대 서사 중심의 틀에 박힌 역사 인식에서 벗어나서 다양한 목소리로 새로운 무용사 쓰기를 가능하게 해 준다. 국립예술자료원이 보유하고 있는 수십 편의 무용구술채록문은 일제강점, 해방과 분단, 냉전, 혁명, 유신, 독재, 민주화로 이어진 근현대사의 굴곡 속에서 해방 이후 이 땅에 한국무용의 기틀을 세웠던 무용가들과 그 주변인들의 체험담을 기록한 것으로 그야말로 한국근현대무용사를 위한 거대한 자료창고라 할 수 있다. 이 논문을 통해 보다 많은 무용사 연구자들이 무용구술사 방법론과 새로운 무용사 쓰기에 주목하고, 산재해 있는 무용구술채록문으로부터 다양한 방식의 역사쓰기를 시도해 주기를 바란다. 특히, 기존 문헌 중심의 역사쓰기에 벗어나 무용구술채록문으로부터 수많은 대항적 기억들을 발굴하여 한국무용사의 새지평을 개척해 주기를 기대한다.
