잠재의식과 시각표현의 상관성 연구와 작품표현

Abstract

인간 정신활동에서 의식이라는 것은, 자각하지 못한 채 잠재되어 있는 무수한 내용들 중 일부가 현재라는 시간 속에서 깨어나 자각 가능해지는 상태를 의미한다. 우리의 정신세계 속에 잠재되어 있는 내용들 중에는, 살아가는 동안 영원히 자각되지 못하는 내용들도 있으며 반면 쉽게 깨어나 자각의 상태로 끌어올려지는 내용들도 있다. 잠재의식은, 이 모두를 포함하는, 잠재되어있는 상태의 정신 내용을 의미한다. 그러므로 잠재의식에는 의식의 상태에서는 미처 알 수 없는 무한한 내용들이 내재되어있으며, 이와 같은 잠재의식은 곧 인간 정신세계의 본질이자 기저를 이루는 근원이 된다. 잠재의식은, 예술가에게 있어서도 창조활동의 원동력이 되는 순수한 내적 본질이 되며, 예술작품이 창조될 수 있게끔 하는 영감을 포착하고 끌어낼 수 있는 풍부한 내용들을 내재하고 있다. 본 연구자는, 이와 같은 잠재의식의 가치와 중요성을 인식하고, 작품표현활동에 있어서 잠재의식에 내재된 풍부하고 순수한 본질적 내용들을 끌어냄으로써 보다 솔직하고 진실된 본인만의 고유한 조형세계를 구축하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서, 잠재의식은 어떻게 끌어낼 수 있고 어떻게 시각표현 할 수 있는지에 대한 이론적 고찰이 선행되었다. 프로이트와 융 그리고 베르그송의 이론 고찰을 통해, 잠재되어있는 정신적 내용들이 행동에 반영되어 표출될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 시각표현은, 잠재의식에 내재되어 있던 과거 경험과 그 경험에 관련된 감정 등이 복합적으로 융합되어있는 기억 내용들이 다시금 현재 시점에 끌어내어지면서 현재의 정서 및 감정 상태 등과 결합하여 재구성된, 시각이미지가 표현 행동과 표현 재료를 통해 표현되어지는 것임을 문헌자료를 통해 확인하였다. 이러한 이론적 근거를 토대로, 본 연구자의 내적 세계에 자리하고 있는 잠재의식을 끌어내는 시각이미지표현에 대한 작품 제작 연구가 이루어졌다. 작품에서 표현하고자 한 잠재의식의 내용들은, 주로 유년시절 경험의 축적이 만들어낸 일상적 대상에 대한 이미지들로서, 이는 대상에 대한 정확하고 뚜렷한 이미지가 아닌 인상적인 느낌이나 분위기로서 존재하는 이미지들이다. 이와 같은 잠재의식 세계를 표현하기 위해서는, 우선 잠재의식이 표출되어질 수 있는 표현행동에 대한 탐구가 필요하였다. 의식적 사고활동이 활발히 이루어지고 있을 때는 의도적이고 계획적적인 행동이 일어나게 되므로, 잠재의식이 행동으로 드러나기 어려운 환경이 된다. 그러나 의식적 사고 기제의 정도를 낮출수록 내적 상태 그 자체에 심취한 자유롭고 솔직한 행동이 활발히 일어날 수 있고, 잠재의식은 의식적 제약이 느슨해진 틈을 타 보다 쉽고 자연스럽게 행동으로 표출되어진다. 때문에 본 연구자는 생각이나 사고 판단과 같은 의식적인 정신 활동의 개입이 최소화되는, 비계획적이며 비의도적으로 일어나는 즉흥적인 행동을 활용하여, 잠재의식의 내용들을 시각이미지표현으로 드러내고자 하였다. 화폭 위에서 이루어지는 이와 같은 즉흥적인 표현 행동은 그 움직임의 자취인 선으로써 형태를 만들어내어 잠재의식을 가시화하였고, 또한 표현 행동 속에 내재되어 있는 미묘하고 다양한 변화들은 직접적인 흔적인 텍스처로 남겨짐으로써 잠재의식의 표현이 이루어졌다. 때문에 잠재의식이 반영되는 행동 궤적으로 인해 생겨나는 표현 형태에 대한 실험과 잠재의식을 드러내는 행동의 흔적을 효과적으로 남겨줄 수 있는 표현 재료에 대한 개발 및 실험이 이루어졌다. 이러한 연구 과정을 거쳐 제작된 본 연구자의 작품은, 의식적 사고 활동이 활발한 상태에서는 끌어낼 수 없었던, 풍부한 내적 내용들이 즉흥적인 행동과 새로이 개발된 점토혼합물이라는 재료를 통해 표현되었다. 그리고 본 연구자의 잠재의식 표현은 리드미컬한 선으로 이루어지는 자유분방하고 독창적인 형태와 생동하는 텍스처(texture)를 만들어내었다. 이와 같이, 본 연구에서는 잠재의식과 시각표현의 상관성에 대한 이론적 연구를 토대로 하여 잠재의식을 보다 적극적으로 표출하기 위한 작품표현에 대한 연구가 이루어졌고, 이를 통해 본 연구자의 진실한 내적 세계를 꾸밈없이 솔직하게 표현해 내는 창의적인 조형세계를 구축하고자 하였으며 또한 고유하면서도 새로운 시각표현의 한 방향을 제시하는데 그 의의를 두었다. ;Consciousness in human mental activity means some of a great deal of subconscious contents without self-awareness are awake to be aware in the present. In case of subconscious contents in our world of spirit, some cannot be realized eternally during life, while others can be emerged to be noticed easily. Subconscious refers to underlying mental contents including all the contents. Thus, subconscious presents infinite contents that cannot be perceived under consciousness, which constructs basis of wold of human spirit as essence. Subconscious not only becomes pure inner essence based on impetus of creation for artists but also includes plentiful contents to capture and show inspiration. The researcher tried to establish honesty and truthful my artworld, being awareness of values and importance in subconscious and expression for artworks by presenting pure, plentiful, essential contents under subconscious. Accordingly, advanced theoretical study was performed to figure out how subconscious would be shown and how subconscious would be expressed visually. A fact that psychological contents can be revealed as action was uncovered through theory of Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Bergson. Furthermore, visual expression was identified visual images reconstructed by past experience and emotion complicatedly combined with present emotion and feeling would be depicted through acting of expression and medium of expression through bibliographic data. In the light of the former research, a study on creating artworks was performed about visual images to show subconscious in inner world. Images based on daily objects created by experiences in childhood were supposed to express. These images are changeable as impression and atmosphere rather than exact and fixed. Research for acting of expression to show subconscious was essential. Subconscious hardly reveals under consciousness causing intentional and planned action. On the other hand, consciousness can be represented as action naturally when conscious restriction is low, which the researcher made up use of extempore action as unplanned and unintended to minimize conscious psychological activities as visual image expression. These acting of expression on canvas visualizes subconscious as line to make formation as well as subtle and various changes in emotion under motion of acting of expression as direct trace, which facilitates the expression of subconscious. A study on formation created by acting of expression reflecting in subconscious was fulfilled. Moreover development and experiment for medium to describe the acting of expression were carried out. The artworks of the researcher through the experiment referring to rich inner contents that could not be shown on consciousness were expressed on canvas through acting of expression with rhythmical line, free formation and lively texture sterlingly. The study indicated expression of artworks to show consciousness actively based on theoretical study involved with a interrelation between consciousness and visual expression. It is expected to present a way to show new visual expression and establish unique my art expression with truthful description to express inner world of the researcher.
