Abstract
Climate change has been one of the rising issues in the current society. Despite the economic crisis has been the CO2 emission rate increasing, along with the constant increase in the rate of the global warming. The phenomenon of the global warning not only affects the change in climate but also will eventually cause unusual climactic events, such as abrupt changes in temperature, weather, and seasons. Such rapid changes have come to threaten our daily lives, affecting various industries. Thus these industries have been preparing and developing various ways of adaptation. Specifically in the field of fashion design, of which has direct correlation with climate change, the research and development of the ethical method to decrease climate change and the measures to adjust to the changed environment are crucial. The fashion field has yet to realize the seriousness, ironically, and is merely blaming the weather without much efficient expertise in the related area. In regards to South Korea especially, since the country clearly has the division of four types of weather, there has not been much difficulty in producing new materials based on the distinct characteristics of each weather. However the unpredictability of climate change has put the industry and the company on the risk; if make wrong choices depending on wrong predictions of the climate or the weather, they will lose their customers. Weather and climate change have led to the companies’ deciding whether or not they would survive in the field. Systematic framework is needed therefore, for the corporations in the field of fashion design to adjust themselves to the fluctuating climate. This research will focus on extracting the main factor of success the brands, designers, and corporations worldwide have achieved through organizing the strategies against climate change, more precisely concentrating on the following four parts of Design integration forecasting program(DIFP): merchandising, research and development, production and outsourcing, and lastly, distribution and marketing. 1. Merchandising based on DIFP There no longer is the traditional division between S/S and F/W in the fashion industry nowadays. The conventional parting of the four seasons should now be reconstructed with more details. This research has reconstructed by dividing the seasons into twelve, yet the corporations should be more realistically systemize themselves by considering their own unique characteristics. Moreover, they should adopt the scenarios that would allow them to recycle the materials that have been put into use during the seasons. Climate change is now gradually growing even harder to predict than before. In such situation thus the companies, in order to decrease their possibilities of risk, should formulate applicable scenarios that fit each circumstance. The consumers had been considered more as passive, in that they follow the trend given and buy such clothes that the corporations tell them. Their ideas or tastes were not influential enough to the fashion industry. However due to the rise of the “prosumer,” the public’s opinion has now become the quintessential aspect to the success of the company. To more productively utilize the majority’s opinion, there should be an open space for the consumers to actively engage in communication with each other, and such utility should be used for better production for the companies as well. The communication between the consumers and the producers, therefore, are vital. 2. R&D based on DIFP The more volatile the climate gets, the less attractive the traditional standardized types of clothes to the consumers get. Modern consumers are more interested in new and functional manufactures. In order to satisfy such change in tastes, corporations in the fashion field should achieve thorough research and development in producing unique goods that would have some hidden technologies or would be able to be used in various unexpected situations. And furthermore should be able to open up a new market based on such new inventions, as well as should expand upon the abilities of the designer so that he would be able to satisfy the needs of the public without any time-consuming efforts. Lastly, there should be ample sources for the consumers to use regardless of the versatility of the weather; in other words, clothes that are wearable in any types of weather should be manufactured with applicable price. 3. Production and Outsourcing based on DIFP The rate of the severity in climate change and that of the increase in the need of seasonless clothes, along with that of the increase in the responses are all parallel with each other. To perform strategically, flexible production and outsourcing are very much needed. Companies should not focus merely on one or two sources but rather have multiple sources that would help them produce and outsource more efficiently in both time-wise and quality-wise. 4. Distribution and Marketing based on DIFP If there appears an abrupt unusual change in the weather, the consumers tend to become less interested in shopping for themselves. They thus go less to malls or shops, and if such situation comes during the sale season, the brands’ sales get hugely affected. To prevent such situation from happening, the approach to the brand itself rather than that to the shop that the brand is in should be strengthened, so that weather change would not affect the sales as much. Promoting the brand on the online shopping mall would not have any influence of the weather because the consumers do not necessarily have to go out to get the clothes of the brand in bad weathers; they just have to get online to get what they want. Equality between the consumer and the producer is also crucial. Corporations that produce what the consumers want are no longer on the top of the hierarchy. It would be much more efficient if there is an increase in the interaction or communication between the public and the fashion corporations. This research is more based on specific examples; therefore, when putting into effect, the corporations should consider more of their own conditions to increase the efficacy. The fashion field from now on should be keen on the reality of the climate change, and of its direct effect on the entire market. The researcher hopes that this research would be the stepping stone on constructing the strategies for the companies to be able to survive and succeed.;최근 전 세계적으로 기후 변화가 큰 이슈가 되고 있다. 기획(merchandising) based on DIFP 전통적으로 패션 산업에서 분류했던 S/S와 F/W은 더 이상의 의미가 없어졌다. 2. R&D based on DIFP
