미러(Mirror)의 표현성을 응용한 패션일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

현대 사회는 다양한 매체를 통하여 무수한 이미지를 접하며, 디지털 테크놀로지(digital technology)의 발달로 컴퓨터 모니터 안의 가상현실에서의 정보교류와 의사소통이 원활하게 되면서, 정형화된 미와 일률적인 시각체계보다 개인의 미적기준과 감성이 중요시되는 시각 체계로 변화되고 있다. 이러한 시각 체계의 흐름은 순수회화와 디자인의 경계를 모호하게 하며 실용적 기능을 내포한 패션일러스트레이션의 독창적이며 개성 있는 표현을 통해 독자적인 시각예술 분야로 발전해 가고 있다. 시각예술로서의 패션일러스트레이션은 패션이 가지는 독특한 모습을 환상적 이미지로 전달한다. 새로운 소재와 시각적 효과를 극대화할 수 있는 표현 기법에 대한 연구를 해옴으로써 자유로운 미적 감성을 지니며, 개성 있는 표현기법을 구사하는 분야로 전문성을 구축하며 그 표현영역을 넓혀가고 있다. 패션일러스트레이션의 다양한 표현재료 가운데 미러(Mirror)는 대상을 그대로 재현하며, 2차원의 평면에 3차원의 공간감을 부여함으로써 시각을 확장하여 화면 안에서 가려진 부분을 볼 수 있게 한다는 특징으로 작가들에게 영감을 주는 매개체로 활용되고 있다. 선행연구 및 패션일러스트레이션 작품들은 미러를 직접 화면에 표현하거나, 미러에 반사된 이미지를 표현하는 작품들이 대부분 이였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 미묘한 굴곡을 준 아크릴 미러(Acrylic mirror)를 매개체로 핸드드로잉 원화를 미러에 반사시켜 예측할 수 없는 왜곡된 이미지를 다양하게 제시함으로써 패션일러스트레이션의 표현영역을 넓히며, 시대에 따르는 미적기준에서 벗어나 선입관과 학습의 지배를 받지 않는 자유로운 시각세계를 제시하여 패션일러스트레이션의 예술성과 창조성을 높이는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 첫째, 미러에 대한 이론적 고찰로서 미러의 개념 및 기원, 미러의 종류 및 특징, 미러의 표현성을 국내외 도서, 논문 등의 문헌자료와 인터넷 검색 자료 등을 이용하여 조사하고, 다음으로 미러의 이미지 왜곡을 응용한 작품사례를 분석한다. 패션일러스트레이션의 이론적 고찰에서는 문헌을 통해 패션일러스트레이션의 개념을 조사하고, 패션일러스트레이션의 역사를 연대기 순으로 조사하며, 패션일러스트레이션의 표현기법과 패션일러스트레이션의 인체 표현양식을 작품의 예시와 함께 조사하여 이론으로 정리한다. 이러한 이론적 배경을 토대로 작품제작은 핸드드로잉 원화를 굴곡면을 준 아크릴 미러에 반사시켜 왜곡된 반사상을 사진촬영한 후 포토샵 작업으로 마무리하여 작품을 제작한다. 본 작품에서는 일반화된 시각범주에서 탈피하여 독특하며 과감한 시각효과를 통해 자유롭고 개성 있는 독창적 이미지를 표현하려 하였으며, 이렇게 하여 총 8점의 작품을 제작한다. 본 연구의 작품 제작을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아크릴 미러에 의해 관념적 비례의 조화가 깨진 일그러지고 변형된 낯선 이미지의 패션일러스트레이션은 관람자로 하여금 상상력을 자극하고 호기심을 유발하여 시각적 집중과 관찰을 통한 새로운 형태와 미(美)를 발견하게 됨을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 굴곡진 아크릴 미러의 특성에 의해 예측할 수 없는 독특한 이미지를 사진촬영을 통하여 무한하게 도출 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 아크릴 미러의 표면을 물리적으로 변형, 왜곡시킴으로써 일률적 시각체계에서 벗어나 기존 패션일러스트레이션의 조형공간 및 형태표현 영역을 확대 시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 일상생활의 필수품인 미러를 패션일러스트레이션의 매개체로 사용함으로써 새로운 재료로서 그 무한한 가능성과 활용할 가치가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 패션일러스트레이션의 표현기법의 다양화로 이미지를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있도록 하며, 보다 자유로운 사고와 창의적인 시도로 패션일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치를 높일 수 있기를 기대한다.;In modern society, innumerable images are encountered through diverse media, and information exchange and communication are facilitated within the virtual reality due to the development of digital technology, and in the process, images are changed into a visual system with the personal aesthetic criteria and emotion being valued rather than into the formated beauty and unilateral visual system. Such a visual system change makes the borderline between pure painting and design ambiguous, the fashion illustrations that encompass practical functions involving original, individualistic artistic expressions create their own position in the visual art category, and expand into the pure painting expression area. Among a various materials for fashion illustration, a mirror is utilized as a medium which gives artists inspiration through its characteristic that allows ones to view the hidden part in a screen with an extending sight, by producing a 3D space sense onto a 2D surface. Most of the preceding researches and fashion illustration artworks were normally expressed utilizing mirror directly onto the screen or using reflected images. The purpose of this research is to enhance an artistic value and creativity of fashion illustration by suggesting the world of visuals free from aesthetic criterion without prejudice and control of learning. An acrylic mirror, as a medium which creates a delicate curve, presents various unpredictable distorted images through the reflection of a hand drawn original picture to broaden the domain of expression. On the basis of a theological background, the artwork is produced by photographing a distorted reflection of the hand drawn original picture through the acrylic mirror which creates a curve, and then is retouched using Photoshop. This artwork expresses a free and unique image through a distinctive and bold visual effect by eliminating a generalized perspective. There are 8 artworks produced in this way. This study reaches the following conclusion through the production of works. First, by the acrylic mirror the ideological ratio and harmony are both destroyed and the fashion illustration of a distorted strange image provokes viewers' imagination and curiosity, and allow them discover a new shape and an aesthetic value through visual concentration and observation. Second, it was possible to infinitely produce the unpredictable unique images due to the characteristic of the curved acrylic mirror. Third, by physically transforming and distorting the surface of acrylic mirror, it was possible to expand the existing modeling space and shape expression scope of the fashion illustration. Forth, by utilizing a mirror which is an essential item of daily life, it was determined that it has an infinite possibility and useful value as a new material. The expression techniques of fashion illustrations can be diversified, enabling an effective expression of images, shedding a unilateral visual system, and enhancing the artistic value of fashion illustrations through a freer way of thinking and creative attempts.
