컴퓨터 사용 시의 노인 불안감과 오류알림창 디자인

Abstract

컴퓨터를 사용하는 노인인구가 증가하고 있다. 컴퓨터를 사용하여 좀 더 쉽고 빠르게 정보에 접근하는 등 정보화 사회에 적응하기 위한 노력을 하고 있는 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 노인들은 노화로 인해 신체, 인지, 심리 등 여러 기능들이 복합적으로 저하되어 부득이하게 컴퓨터를 사용하는데 어려움을 겪는다. 이로 인해 잦은 오류가 발생해 컴퓨터 사용 시 불안감이 유발되고, 이 불안감은 오류알림창을 마주한 순간 극대화된다. 하지만 불안감과 같은 부정적인 감정은 노인들의 자신감을 떨어뜨려 원활하게 컴퓨터를 이용하는 것을 방해하므로 해결되어야 하는 부분이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 노인들이 컴퓨터를 사용하는 도중 오류가 발생하여 오류알림창이 등장할 때 언제, 어떤 부분에서 어떠한 어려움을 겪는지를 파악하고, 그 원인을 규명하여 노인의 불안감을 줄일 수 있는 오류알림창의 인터페이스의 디자인 방안을 제시한 후, 디자인 사례를 제안하였다. 노인의 행태조사를 통해 오류알림창의 중 노인들에게 등장하는 유형은 주로 파일 문제로 인한 오류알림창, 태스크 문제로 인한 오류알림창, 사용자 입력 문제로 인한 오류알림창의 3가지의 유형이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 이 3가지 유형에 대한 노인들의 행태는 다음과 같았다. 파일 문제로 인한 오류알림창에 대해 노인들은 무엇을 선택해야 될지 모르거나 자신이 한 행위에 대해 이해가 부족한 모습을 보였다. 그리고 태스크 문제로 인한 오류알림창이 발생 시 도움말이 제시되어도 클릭해보지 않고 바로 닫기 버튼을 누르거나, 도움말에 들어가서 잠시 읽어보고 나오는 모습을 보였다. 오류알림창에서 다음 태스크를 권유하는 경우도 있었는데, 받아들이지 않은 모습을 보였다. 그 다음 사용자 입력 문제로 인한 오류알림창 발생 시 시스템의 문제를 탓하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 마지막 단계에서는 이상과 같은 노인의 행태에 대한 이해와 그 원인의 분석을 바탕으로 오류알림창에 대한 디자인 방안을 제시하고 구체적인 디자인 사례를 제안하였다. 이를 통하여 향후 노인들이 컴퓨터와 같은 정보화기기를 사용할 때 오류에 대해 부정적인 감정을 줄이고 긍정적인 경험을 할 수 있도록 디자인하는 데에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.;The number of senior citizens using computers is on the rise. They have tried to adjust to information-oriented society by approaching information more easily and rapidly via computers. Nevertheless, the elderly have difficulty using computers since their aging process has degraded physical, cognitive, psychological functions in combination. It makes frequent errors, causing anxiety when they use computers, and this anxiety is maximized in front of error message. However, negative feelings like anxiety are assignments to be solved because they lower the old's confidence, so that hinder them from using computers. This study figures out that when an error occurs and error message pops up, in what way and when the elderly are challenged. Also, the study identifies causes and suggests interface design plans and examples of error message which can alleviate the old's anxiety. Based on elderly behaviors research, the study finds out that the elderly mainly face three types of error message; error message caused by file problems, error message caused by task problems and error message caused by user input problems. The responses to those three types are as follows. First, for error message caused by file problems, the elderly seem helpless of what to select and show lack of understanding what they have done. Secondly, for error message caused by task problems, they ignore Help or skim over and get out of Help. When error message recommends a next task, they reject the process. Lastly, for error message caused by user input problems, they blame for computer systems. The last part of the study suggests design plans of error message and specific design examples based on understanding about elderly behaviors and causal analysis. The study expects to be helpful in designing error message that reduces negative feelings toward the error and makes the elderly get positive experiences, when they use informational technology like computers.
