미디어 속 이슈의 보도기간 분석

Abstract

세상에 많은 사건사고 중 뉴스가치가 있는 이슈들만이 미디어에 살아남는다. 살아남은 이슈들은 미디어 공간 안에서 생명력을 갖고 지속적으로 나타난다. 언론 보도에 있어서 ‘지속기간’은 ‘이슈의 보도기간’이라는 형태로 나타나며 이는 미디어의 효과를 극대화 또는 최소화 시킬 수 있다는 점에서 중요하다. 뉴스에서 지속적으로 보도하는 이슈들은 대중에게 중요한 이슈로 인식될 수 있기 때문이다. 저널리즘 연구에서 ‘이슈의 보도기간’은 다른 분석항목(보도량, 취재원, 논조, 프레임 등)들을 다루는데 끊임없이 거론돼 왔다. 그러나 효과론과 연결된 곁가지였을 뿐 ‘보도기간’ 그 자체만을 본 연구는 드물었다. 따라서 본 연구는 2001년부터 2011년까지 조선일보에서 발표된 ‘올해의 10대 뉴스(이하 10대 이슈)’ 중 총 95개를 대상으로 해당 이슈들이 발표된 해 1년 동안 조선일보에 얼마나 지속적으로 나타나는지 탐구했다. 이슈는 주제별(인물, 정치, 사회, 북한, 군, 국제, 문화, 경제)로 구분했고, 이슈의 보도기간은 전개성과 단발성으로 구분했다. 연구결과, 대부분 이슈들이 전개성을 지닌 것으로 나타났다. 서로 다른 95개 이슈를 위 8개 주제에 따라 나누면 중복될 수 있다는 전제 하에 총 158개의 주제별 이슈로 분류된다. 이 중 단발적으로 보도된 이슈는 총 23개로 전체 14.55%를 차지했다. 나머지 135개(85.45%) 이슈들은 전개적으로 보도됐다. 이는 언론사가 중요하게 뽑은 한 해 이슈들이 그 해에 모두 지속적으로 보도되지 않았다는 것을 의미하며 그것이 전체 14.55%를 차지한다는 의미로 볼 수 있다. 단발적으로 보도된 이슈들을 주제별(인물, 정치, 사회, 북한, 군, 국제, 문화, 경제)로 살펴본 결과 총 23개 중 정치, 인물, 사회 이슈가 총 19개(82.60%)로 국제, 문화, 경제 이슈들보다 더 단발적으로 보도됐다. 언론은 국제, 문화, 경제 이슈들에 비해 정치, 인물, 사회 이슈에서 덜 지속적인 관심을 보이고 있다고 해석할 수 있었다. 이 연구를 통해서 이슈의 보도기간에 대한 연구의 필요성을 확인했다. 본 연구는 초기 연구로서 언론 보도에서 시간의 중요함을 상기시킨 점, 특히 보도기간 연구의 필요성을 제시하고 이를 시도한 점에서 추후 연구자들에게 이슈의 보도기간과 관련된 많은 연구의 가능성을 보여줬다는 것에 의의가 있다.;Among many incidents and accidents in the world, only issues which have news value survive. The survived issues have vitality in the media space and continuously appear. In media reports, 'duration' appears as a form of 'the reported period of an issue,' and this is important in terms that it can maximize or minimize the effect of the media. Because issues which are reported continuously on the news can be recognized as the important issue to the public. In the study of journalism, the reported period of an issue' was referred constantly when dealing with other analysis items (amount of reports, sources, the tone of an argument, and frames). However, it was only the side branch connected with the effect theory, and the study on only itself was rare. Therefore, this study, targeting total 95 news among 'top 10 news of the year' which were announced at Chosun daily newspaper from 2001 to 2011, studied how constantly those issues had appeared on Chosun daily newspaper for the year which those issues were announced. Issues were categorized by a topic, and the reported period of an issue were categorized into the characteristic of development and sporadicalness. As a result of the study, it appeared that most issues have the characteristic of development. 95 different issues is categorized into total 158 issues by topic on the assumption that it can be overlapped if those issues are categorized according to 8 topics. Among then, issues which were reported sporadically were total 23 issues and formed 14.55% of the total. Other 135 issues (85.45%) were reported developmentally. It means that issues selected as important ones by the press were not reported continuously during that year, and it can be seen that it means that those issues occupy 14.55% of the total. As a result of examining issues reported sporadically by each topic (people, politics, society, North Korea, the military, international, culture, and economics), among total 23, issues of politics, people, and society were total 19 (82.60%), and those were reported more sporadically. It could be interpreted that the media shows less constant interest in issues of politics, people, and society than issues of international, culture, and economics. Through this study, I confirmed that the necessity of the study about the reported period of an issue. This study has a meaning in terms that it presented the possibility of many studies related to the reported period of an issue to later researchers in the way that this study, as an initial study, reminded the importance of time in a media report and especially presented and tried the necessity of the study on the reported period.
