Georg Buechner의 現代性

Abstract

Georg Buchner(I8I3- 1857) was not very much appreciated in his lifetime. He was almost forgotten for 80 years after his death. It was only after the exoressionists regarded him as their Fioneer that he began to be reexamined and appreciated. Examining his modernity inevitably involves an analysis of "Why is he more widely acclaimed nowadays than in his lifetime?" In Buchners works, there are psychological, naturalistic, expressionistic, surreallistic,lyric and mimic elements; tnere are also images of who loves, hates, suffers and gets mad, I think Buchner's modernity consists in this whole, general and inclusive human image. "Danton's Death", which has been called "tragedy without hero" because of its stresses on wea ness of human being, was written in 18 5. This was a period when the author retreated to his parents' home after he had failed in a secret revolutionary movement. Buchner found his identification in Danton, also a defeated hero of French Revolution. But "Dan-bon's Death" is not tedencydrama, As the title indicates, this drama deals with death itself, intrinsic nature of human being and ontological problem.I I tries to interpret this work in view of situation and individual human being, First. l analyzed Danton's situation, namely fatalism of history, morals and people of that time, and extreme situation. Second, I attempted to search for Danton's selfcorisciousaess, solitude, scepsis, anxiety, boredom, atheism, nihilism. and existential piece. I think it is Buchners greatmess and characteristics that a naked human being is revealed in an extreme situation. He always questions "Why does man suffer?" He denies everything in the world, but he can't deny human pains and suffering. He accepts pain and suffering. In this point of view he recognizes human being. We see a great awaken-man in Buchner. The central problem of Buchner lies in extreme thinking and act of man. Because of the deep penetration, people read his works willingly and continously nowadayso.;Georg Buechner(1813~1837)는 生前에 그리 名聲을 얻은 作家가 아니었다. 1次大戰後 表現主義 作家들이 그를 새로운 눈으로 發見함으로써 그는 활발히 論議되고 再評價받기 시작한 作家이다. B?chner의 現代性을 밝히는 것은 「生前에 각광을 받지 못했던 그가 死後 점점 그 眞價를 발휘해 가는 理由가 무엇인가를 밝히는 것」과 一致한다. Buechner의 作品 속에는 事實的·自然主義的·社會批判的·超現實主義的·抒情的要素 및 나아가 Beckett, Ionesco, Adamov 등에 영향을 끼친 無言劇的 要素등 諸要素가 포함되어 있으며 사랑하고 憎惡하고 苦惱하고 殺人하고 狂亂하는 根源的이고 全面的인 人間의 모습이 提示되어 있다. B?chner의 核心은 바로 이 全面的이고 根源的의 人間의 모습에 있다. 本人은 Buechner의 處女作 「Danton의 죽음」을 中心으로 이 Buechner의 人間의 문제를 탐구해 보고자 한다. 흔히 프랑스革命의 英雄인 Danton의 人間的 약함을 强調했다 해서 「英雄없는 悲劇 (Tragodiecohne Helden)」으로 불리우는 「Danton의 죽음」은 1835年 1月에 쓰여졌다. 이 時期는 비밀결사 「Gesellschaft der Menschenrechte」를 중심으로 革命運動에 가담했던 Buechner가 이에 失敗한 後 경찰을 피해 숨어 지내던 시기였다. 政治運動의 좌절에 젖어 있었던 그는 역시 革命을 主導했으나 革命이라는 狀況에 희생당하는 逆說的 人物 Danton에게서 자기와의 同一性을 발견했던 것이다. 本人은 Buechner가 그려내는 Danton이라는 人物을 狀況과 個我라는 觀點에서 파악, 그를 敗北者로 만드는 狀況을 ① 歷史의 宿命性 ② 道德과 個我 ③ 大衆과 個我 ④ 감옥이라는 限界狀況의 순서로 分析하고 이 사항에 밀려난 Dandton이 감옥에 갇힘으로써 겪게되는 自己認識 및 內的葛藤의 과정을 ① Danton의 自我認識 ② Danton의 無神論 ③ Danton의 虛無主義 ④ Danton의 實存的 片貌의 순서로 규명해 보았다. 가장 극한적 狀況에서 가장 깊고 가장 포괄적으로 드러나는 Danton의 個我 -, 孤獨을 느낌으로써 시작하여 實存에까지 연결되는 Danton의 人間的 모습을 살핌으로써 本人은 「人間의 行動과 思考가 그의 外部狀況에서 어떻게 調和를 이룰 수 있는가? 하는 Buechner의 中心問題에 接近해 보고자 한것이다. 本人은 外的狀況에서의 人間이라는 이 綜合的인 태도야말로 Buechner를 오늘에도 살아있게 하는 그의 現代性이라 믿기 때문이다.
