Abstract

Stendhal은 낭만주의가 한창 開化하던 무렵인 19世紀中葉, 낭만주의적인 면과 사실주의적인 면을 同時에 지니면서 당대의 政治와 社會를 극히 進步的이고 銳利한 眼目으로 批評한 政治的인 作家이다. 그리고 作家로서의 立場을 떠나 個人的으로는 그는 어떻게 사랑하고 어떻게 사랑받는가 하는 問題를 最大의 關心事로 하여, 오로지 女人들과의 사랑속에서만 幸福을 추구하려 한다. 〈Le Rouge et le Noir (赤 과 黑 )〉은 이러한 作家의 進步的이 社會觀과 政治批判을 묘사한 多分히 역사적인 價値를 갖는 作品이며, 同時에 심리묘사에 뛰어난 戀愛小說이기도 하다. 그의 여러 作品들 中에서 특히 이 作品은 作家의 自敍傳的인 作品으로 이 作品을 硏究해 봄으로써 우리는 作家 自身을 보다 잘 理解할 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 나는 〈Le Rouge et le Noir〉를 선택하여 그 周邊을 다뤄 보려고 한다. 한 作品이 탄생하기 위한 先行要素인 제작의 動機와 제작과정, 그리고 作品속의 사랑의 問題를 살펴 보려는 것이다. 〈Le Rouge et le Noir〉가 잉태되던 시기는 Napol?on 실각후, 王政복고를 틈타서 다시 權力을 쥐게 된 舊貴族들의 榮華와 時代의 大變動에 따르는 여러 가지의 精神的 混亂속에 고개를 드는 신흥 bourgeois계급, 그리고 진보사상을 내걸고 私利를 일삼는 自由主義者들, 젊은 世代의 野心 만만한 꿈과 功利主義, 준엄한 Jans?niste에 대한 현세 타협적인 J?suite파의 교활한 모략등이 발호하기 始作한 時期이다. Stendhal은 이러한 시대를 自己 나름대로의 獨特한 眼目에 의해 체험하고, 역사란 여러 時代의 한 연속적 年代期를 이루게 된다는 사실을 일찍부터 깨달아, 일종의 時代的인 의무감 내지는 연대감에서 이 作品을 쓰게 된 것이다. 그리고 作品속의 낭만주의적 경향은 作家의 天性的인 낭만적 기질에 의해 더욱 뚜렷이 부각되고 있다. 이 作品의 줄거리는 法廷新聞 〈Le Gagette des Tribunaux〉에 실린 Antoine Berthet라는 靑年의 生涯가 그 골자를 이루고 있으며, Charles X 내각의 한 長官의 조카딸의 戀愛事件이 약간 介入되고 있다. 作中人物들은 Antoine Berthet와 Stendhal 자신, 그리고 作家의 親知들에게서 求해진다. 그리고 作品속의 사랑은 作家의 〈De l'Amour (戀愛論)〉에 의거한 사랑의 心理分析과 사랑의 교훈적인 槪念이 그대로 적용되고 있다. 끝으로, 무엇보다도 重要한 것은, Stendhal은 이 〈Le Rouge et le Noir〉속에서 現代作家들에 가까운 성격묘사와 心理分析을 하고 있으며, 또한 主人公 Julien Sorel의 自意識의 갈등을 通해 現代人이 추구하여 마지 않은 진실을 잘 나타내고 있다. 따라서, 이 때문에 그는 그의 同時代에 명성을 떨치던 大作家들 보다도 더욱 깊은 感銘을 現代人들에게 주고 있으며, 近代小說의 始祖로써 佛文學史에 永遠한 金字塔을 이루고 있다.;Stendhal was a political author in the middle of 19'c when remantism being in the blossoms, whose thought was romantistic and realistic. He critiszed the politics and society of the day with sharp and remarkably up-to-date eyes. Apart from the author sense, however, he personally tried to pursue happiness only in falling in love with woman in great consideration of how to love and be loved. 〈Le Rouge et Le Noir〉 is not only the work which described his progressive outlook and comment on politics but also the work which is much worth historical and romantic novel of good psychological description. This novel among his works is so autobiographical that we can find him rather good through studying this. Therefore I am going to do with the circumference of 〈Le Rouge etLe Noir〉. I am about to study the motive and process of writhing which are preceeding elements to accomplish a work and affairs of love in a work. After Napol?on's fall exisiting aristocrats seizing power by means of restoration, rising new bourgeois in various mental chaos according to the fluctuation of the time, liberalist who were pursuing their own profits under the pretext of progressive ideas, great ambitions ＆ utilitarianism of young generation and cunning plots of compromising J?suite school against the strict Jans?niste, most of these factors were the back-ground of the work 〈Le Rouge et Le Noir〉. After he experienced the days in the way of his own eyes and got recognition about fact that history could be a serial annals of a few of ages. Sendhal owed this work to solidality or a sense of duty, and romantic tendency of this novel strongly appeared by romantic tempered author. The plots of this novel are a young Antoine Berthet's life which is an account of Antoine Berthet's incident carried on The Low Court newspapers and a love affair of niece of a member of his Majesty Charles X imperial cabinet. The charact?rs of this work line up with Antoine Berthet, Stendhal as a character, and his close acquaintance, And the psychological analysis and instructive general remarks of love was applied in the love of the work based on the 〈De l'Amour〉 of Stendhal. Finally, it is the most important thing that in 〈Le Rouge et Le Noir〉. Stendhal made the complete character description and psychological analysis as similary as the modern writers did and he best expressed the truth which the modern men eagerly seek for through the conflicts of selfconsciousness of Julien Sorel. Therefore, he gave the deeper impressions on the modern people than the other comtemporary famous writers did and he got a monumental achievement in the French literature history as the father of modern novel.
