반사된 빌딩이미지를 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

We noted that the huge development from the Industrial Revolution gave us not a little material benefits to human civilization, but cities have thus far been irregularly evolved toward more than one class, for instance, aloft skyscrapers and expressway, regardless of the traditions and historical meanings containing the characteristics of each race and region. It does not only mean that was resulted from the cityward tendency of the population and rapidly developed industries but also mean that the city view full apartments and high buildings might be the new nature of citizens in lights of the nature we know such as valleys and mountains. An art theorist, R.G. Collingwood stated that art does not stay as its pure imaginative activities but an artist should express what anyone can feel and recognize but can not express. That is, an art is brought about surroundings and contains internal things, reflecting them into an image conclusively. As his statement, it is probably said that the current city view and the formative configurations of buildings in it may be the secondary nature replacing the nature, which has been the original source of our artistic activities from the ancient times at least to citizens. In short, an image of the crowded buildings, the formative features of each building, reflective image on a buildings glass from neighboring buildings and other surroundings are another natural scene moderns can easily observe. As the above, the author would like to reanalyze the reflected building images expressing various images according to the sense of a viewers sight and the time flow in a city artificially formed, also configure them and suggest the potentiality as an artistic motive to be recreated in the present age. For the study and its theoretical background, I have looked into the apparent features of modern architectures in the related literature and collected the reflected images on a buildings glass, for which Im going to develop them as a design motive modern citizens sympathize and apply as a natural concept and searched for the potentiality to recreate it. Then I have analyzed the formative features of the reflected images on a buildings glass and reviewed whether to apply them for the patterns of textile materials by synthesizing and editing them using computer graphic technology, plane drawing and engraving. For textile work expression, I have, on the other hand, used DTP(Digital Textile Printing), to realize the color and image transcription, which have been difficult to express in the existing analogue textile printing processes, optimally on a textile accordingly, manufacturing it as an apparel work. Conclusively, the research procedure may be summarized as follows. Firstly, to present a different method to express a city image, I have expressed the city image dealt by the existing artists into the distorted and twisted image reflected to a buildings glass, in which the image reproduced by the crowded buildings has the potentiality to express as an unlimited artistic motive in accordance with a buildings shape and the reflection degree. Secondly, applying the reflected image to textile works recreated the existing city image people recognize vaguely and meaninglessly for moderns sense, forming the sympathy between a city and citizens and resulting in an artistic image from the beauty of a city with the crowded buildings. Thirdly, adopting DTP method was able to completely embody the distorted lines and planes existed in photos, drawings and engravings, which were manufactured as Ready-to-Wear design, suggesting that the potentiality to apply them for textile design patterns and the commercialization using digital textile printing are not impossible. Fourthly, it was appropriate that in expressing the reflected image on a buildings glass into a textile design, the digital printing increases the practical use of such motives and facilitates the perfect embodiment while the embroidery paint partially used in the study properly gave the cubic effect on textile, expressing the cubic effect between the window frames of a buildings external wall and the reflected images. As the above, I could see that introducing the reflected images of other buildings on a buildings glass might give probably many-sided and unlimited expressions, which may increase textiles artistic expressions. Furthermore, it supposedly seems that the combination of the reflected building images and the formative properties improves a new artistic motive and expressing another beauty of a city may be developed as a modern design to facilitate the harmony of moderns and cities. ;산업혁명 이후 인류 문명의 발달은 인간에게 많은 물질적 혜택을 안겨주었지만 그것이 이루어낸 도시는 각 민족과 지역의 특색을 담아낸 전통적인 모습과 역사적인 의미와는 관계없이 하늘을 찌르는 마천루와 고속화도로 이루어진 현대도시의 모습으로 대표되는 한 가지 종(種)으로 이상진화(異狀進化)하고 있다. 인구의 도시 집중화 현상과 급격한 산업의 발달이 빚어낸 현상이라 할 수 있겠지만 이것은 다시 말해 아파트와 고층 건물 등으로 얘기할 수 있는 도시가 현대 도시인들에게 삶의 터전이자 정서적 바탕으로 사회와 함께 발전하고 진화한다는 것으로 설명 될 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본 연구자는 도시인들이 인위적으로 조성해놓은 도시이미지에 대한 다양한 표현 접근 방법으로서 보는 이의 시각과 시간에 따라 다양한 영상을 표현해 내는 반사된 빌딩 이미지를 재분석해 형상화하고, 이를 의상디자인의 외피디자인으로 표현하여 현시대 재창조되어질 수 있는 예술적 모티브로서의 발전 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법에 대한 이론적 배경으로 현대 도시 건축물의 성격과 외형의 구성요소 및 조형적 특징을 문헌을 통하여 고찰하였다. 연구 방법은 건축물의 유리벽면에 반사되어진 건물 이미지를 수집하여 반사된 빌딩 이미지들의 유형과 조형적 특성을 분석하였으며, 이를 컴터와 평면 드로잉, 판화작업으로 합성 및 재편집하여 의상디자인의 패턴으로서의 가능성을 검토해 보았다. 또한 건축공법의 일부분을 의상디자인에 접목하여 새로운 스타일 연출의 방법을 모색해 보았다. 표현 기법으로는 디지털 날염 프린팅(Digital Textile Printing)기법을 활용해 기존 아날로그 날염공정에서는 표현하기 어려웠던 색감과 이미지 전사를 최대한 완벽하게 원단에 재현할 수 있도록 하였으며, 누빔과 컷 아웃(Cut-out), 엠브로이더리 페인트(embroidery paint) 등의 기법을 이용하여 건축물의 구조적인 형태와 특징 등을 의상디자인으로 형상화하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통한 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그동안 많은 예술가들에 의해 표현 모티브로 다루어진 도시 이미지를 유리에 반사되어 일그러지고 왜곡된 이미지로 표현함으로써 도시이미지 표현에 또 다른 방법을 제시하였으며, 군집되어있는 빌딩 숲이 만들어낸 반사이미지는 빌딩의 형태와 반사의 정도에 따라 무한한 예술적 모티브로써의 표현 가능성을 가지고 있다. 둘째, 디지털 날염 프린팅(DTP)의 방식을 채택하여, 사진과 드로잉, 판화작품에서 나타난 자유스러운 선들과 왜곡된 면들이 완벽하게 재현될 수 있도록 하였으며, 이를 의상으로 제작하여 평면 예술작품의 의상디자인으로의 적용 가능성과 디지털 날염 프로세스를 이용한 제품 상용화 가능성을 제시하였다. 셋째, 의상에 빌딩의 반사 이미지를 표현함에 있어 디지털 프린팅은 모티브의 응용과 활용도를 높이고 완벽한 재현을 유도해 낼 수 있었다. 부분적으로 사용된 엠브로이더리 페인트(embroidery paint)는 원단에 입체감을 주어 건물 외벽의 창틀과 반사이미지 사이의 공간감을 표현할 수 있었으며, 또한 전기인두를 이용해 원단의 일부분을 도려낸 컷 아웃(cut-out) 기법은 건축물의 외피 형태와 유리에 반사된 이미지의 다양한 형태 변화를 형상화하는데 적합하였다. 이와 같이 건물 유리에 반사된 다른 건물의 왜곡된 이미지를 의상에 도입함으로써 예술모티브로서 도시이미지의 적용가능성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이를 통한 의상디자인의 예술적이고 독창적인 표현 증대를 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 건축 공법의 일부를 의상의 표현 기법에 적용함으로써 의상디자인이 아닌 타 분야와의 정보 공유를 통한 의상디자인의 새로운 발전 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 앞으로 반사된 빌딩 이미지의 조형성을 현대 디자인과 의상디자인에 접목시킴으로써 도시에서 관찰할 수 있는 도시경관으로 현대인과 도시의 조화를 유도하는 예술모티브로 발전 가능성을 모색할 수 있으리라 본다.
