TV 드라마에 나타난 부부관계 분석

Abstract

This study aims at understanding conjugal relations through the perception and attitude toward love and marriage of the people of an age expressed at TV dramas of the times. To be more specific, this study examines extramarital affairs that have been depicted in TV dramas to understand comprehensively the relationship of extramarital love and conjugal relations, along with the influence extramarital loves have on conjugal relations. This study investigates on the views of love and marriage as a result of social communication, and description of conjugal relations with a focus on extramarital love under the supposition that acceptance and interpretation of TV dramas by the public have close relationship with the historical background and values of the times. TV dramas are taken in this study as research materials that show the way of thinking shared by the people of the times, and the contents of the dramas are qualitatively analyzed by the research method of cultural history. Six dramas that are deemed to have represented an age by their popularity and sensation to the public were chosen for analysis among the dramas produced from the 1960s, when TV dramas began to be produced in Korea, to present. To choose the dramas subject to the analysis at primary stage, two volumes of TV drama catalogues and a CD-ROM were referred to, which contain the year of telecasting, director, screen writer and characters. The final subject dramas were sorted out of the dramas selected at the primary stage by their popularity and sensation raised to the public at the times. The analysis of the dramas shows the following results: First, dramas at the early 1960s depicted extramarital affairs as having no relations with love, so having no influence on the marital living, according to traditional practices that were still dominant at the times. As the perception gradually prevails with the passage of time that marriage is closely related with love and love is prerequisite for marriage, extramarital affairs gradually came to be regarded as an evil threatening continual of marital living. After the 1990s, dramas implicitly disseminated the idea that extramarital affairs can contribute to the vitality and maintenance of marital living, and love, sex and marriage are independent from each other, while the dramas were still predominated by romantic loves presupposing marriage. Second, with the settlement of romantic love, ideas about love and marriage of the public began to be disclosed. Dramas after the 1990s showed the changing ideas of the people about love and marriage. With the appearance of conjugal relations featured with equality and friendliness based on reasonable love, people came to accept that extramarital affairs are not always harmful to marital living, but they may contribute to the vitality and maintenance of marital life. Most of people, however, seem to think that they get married for love, and accept only conjugal sexual relations. This study and other studies on the Korean family history show that the influence of extramarital affairs vary according to changes of social and cultural conditions of Korea. They also show that extramarital affairs have also influence on the overall family life formed by marriage resulted from romantic and free love in the viewpoint of conjugal relations. In conclusion, this study shows that romantic love combined with marital system brought changes to extramarital affairs and people's idea about love and marriage. It also shows that progress of family changes can be analyzed through cultural texts. This study has the significance that it has introduced the research method of cultural history to the science of family and examined the individual attitude toward love and marriage in more concrete terms than the existing researches which expressed it only in statistical figures, thus comprehensively reconstructing the changing process of Korean families by considering individuals and families in combination with social conditions.;본 연구는 TV 드라마를 통하여 사람들의 인식과 태도를 살피고, 이를 통해 현재 부부관계의 패턴을 이해하고자 했다. 특히 TV 드라마에 나타나는 외도의 상황을 추적함으로써 외도와 부부관계 패턴과의 연관성, 외도가 부부관계에 미치는 영향에 대해 입체적으로 파악하고자 한다. TV 드라마가 일반 대중을 통해 수용되고 해석되는 방식은 시대적 배경이나 가치와 무관하지 않다는 전제하에 사회적 커뮤니케이션 결과로서의 사랑과 결혼에 대한 사고, 외도를 중심으로 표출되는 부부관계 패턴에 대해 살펴보는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 특히 본 연구에서는 당대 사람들이 공유하고 있는 사고 방식을 보여주는 연구자료로서 TV 드라마를 채택하였고, TV 드라마 내용을 질적으로 분석하는 문화사적(文化史的)연구 방법을 사용하였다. 분석대상 작품들은 한국에 TV 드라마가 생긴 1960년대부터 현재까지 각 시대에 대표적으로 인기있었고 사회적 반향이 높았던 TV 드라마로 인정되는 6작품이었다. 연구 대상 TV 드라마들을 표집하기 위하여, 비교적 한국 TV 드라마사 전반을 포괄하고 있고, 수록 작품들의 발표 연도와 연출가, 작가, 등장인물을 충실하게 명시하고 있는 두 권의 TV 드라마 편람집과 한 개의 CD-ROM을 일차로 선정하였다. 그리고 여기에 수록된 작품들 중 당대 대중들에게 인기있었고 사회적 반향을 일으켰던 주요한 작품들로, 각 시대를 대표할 수 있는 대표작들을 선정하여 연구대상 드라마 목록을 확정하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째로 TV 드라마속에서 외도는 1960년대 이후 전통적인 정서가 지배적이었던 이데올로기로서 외도를 결혼해체와 연결짓지 않았다. 따라서 외도가 결혼생활 그 자체에는 아무런 영향을 미치지 않는다는 사고가 지배적이었다. 그러나 시간이 지날수록 낭만적 사랑과 결혼의 연관성이 강화되고 사랑이 결혼의 필수조건으로 자리잡으면서, 외도에 대한 사람들의 인식은 사랑과 결혼에 대한 사고변화에 근거하여 변화하고 있었다. 그러나 1990년대 TV 드라마 속에는 결혼과 밀접한 관계가 있는 낭만적 사랑이 강조되고 있지만 외도가 결혼생활을 향상시킬 수 있는 기제로서, 결혼생활이 더욱 잘 유지되도록 도움을 주는 역할을 할 수 있다고 여기는 등, 사랑과 결혼의 유리현상을 보여주고 있다. 둘째로, 사랑과 결혼에 대한 사람들의 사고는 낭만적 사랑을 중심으로 재편되고 있다. 1990년대 이후 합류적 사랑(Giddens, 1996)에 기초하는 평등하고 우애적인 부부관계의 특징이 부상하면서 외도에 대한 사람들의 인식도 반드시 결혼생활에 해를 끼치는 것은 아니라고 생각하면서 외도가 결혼생활을 향상시키고, 유지하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다는 견해가 부상하였다. 그러나 여전히 사람들의 사랑과 결혼에 대한 사고는 결혼은 당연히 해야 하는 것이고, 결혼을 하는 가장 큰 이유는 사랑하기 때문으로 여겨지며, 아직도 훨씬 더 많은 사람들이 혼인 내의 성관계만을 인정하기 때문이다는 사고가 지배적이다. 결론적으로 본 연구를 통해 1) 낭만적 사랑이 결혼 제도와 연합함으로써 외도에 대한 인식을 변화시켰고, 2) 이는 사람들의 사랑과 결혼에 대한 사고의 변화에 의한 것이며, 3) 가족의 변화 과정을 문화 텍스트를 통해 분석할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이렇게 문화사적 연구방법을 가족학에 도입하여, 기존의 연구에서 통계적인 수치로 존재하였던 개인들의 사랑과 결혼에 대한 태도를 보다 구체적으로 살펴보고, 개인과 가족, 사회환경을 함께 봄으로써 한국 가족을 보다 입체적으로 재구성할 수 있었다는 점에 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
