오브제(objet)를 통한 삶의 표현연구

Abstract

일상생활에 쓰이는 모든 물체는 그 나름의 용도나 기능 또는 독특한 의미를 지니고 있게 마련이나 이러한 물체가 일단 오브제(Objet)로 쓰이면 본래의 용도나 기능은 의미를 잃게 되고 이때까지 우리가 미처 체험하지 못했던 어떤 연상 작용의 효과를 얻을 수 있게 된다. 인간은 무엇을 보든, 또 어떤 것을 경험하든 그 자신의 의식을 통해서 모든 것을 파악하고 한 가지 대상에 대해서 각기 다른 개념과 인식을 갖게 된다. 본 연구는 생활에서 흔히 쓰이는 친근한 사물인 봉투(envelope)를 오브제로 선택하여 봉투가 단지 글(letters)을 전달하는 일상적 용도에서 벗어나 그것에 은유될 수 있는 여러 가지 의미들이 담기는 대상으로 보고, 개인적 체험을 통해 바라보는 연구자의 내면적 삶을 표현하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 오브제의 미학적 개념과 예술작품에 나타나는 오브제의 양상을 미술사조별로 그 역할을 살펴보고 이를 이론적 근거로 삼았으며 내용적으로 봉투의 형태적 특성과 기능 및 상징성을 알아보고 그 은유적 표현을 이용해 통해 본인의 내면세계를 표현하고자 했다. 또 이를 시각화하기 위한 재료(브론즈, 트레팔지, 종이, 철재, OHP필름지, F.R.P, 및 발견된 오브제)와 기법의 선택에 따른 효과를 연구하여 제작된 작품 7점을 대상으로 표현내용과 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 본 연구에서 오브제로 사용된 봉투는 기성품(ready-made)을 그대로 사용한 것이 아닌 봉투의 이미지를 차용한 레디메이드( ready-made)가 사용되었고, 브론즈, 종이, 트레팔지, 철각으로 된 철재, OHP필름지, 폴리에스터 및 발견된 오브제등의 다양한 재료들로 만들어졌다. 또 봉투는 내용에 따른 크기의 변화, 배열방식, 놓여지는 공간의 설정으로 심리적 공간표현에 의해 설치방법을 선택하였다. 카드봉투를 서류 봉투용 장식 끈으로 봉한 채 정밀하게 주조한 수 십 개의 봉투는 일정한 간격을 두고 단순반복적인 방법으로 설치되어 현대인의 개인주의적인 삶의 태도, 이웃과의 단절, 무관심, 그리고 인간의 몰 개성화와 인간소외 등이 표현되었다. 반투명의 OHP필름으로 만든 봉투는 아크릴 박스에 넣어져 편지 보관함 같은 이미지를 드러내며, OHP필름이 주는 반투명의 재질감은 아련한 기억의 편린과, 양을 조절하며 여러 개의 아크릴 박스에 중첩되게 넣어진 봉투는 한정된 시간에의 기억의 흔적을 드러내기에 적절하였다. 접히지도 않은 봉투 무더기를 석고로 떠낸 뒤 F.R.P로 캐스팅하여 여러 덩어리로 제시한 작품은 현재 나를 있게 하는 과거의 경험들이 축적되어 나타나 보이는 것을 표현하고 있다. 봉투의 외형만을 암시하는 철 구조물로 극대화된 봉투는 문명의 발전 속 에서 기본 재료로서의 철이 정보사회의 글의 표현방식의 변화를 거대한 정보망 속에서 하나의 정보도 없음을 선(line)만으로 표현하고자 했다. 종이와 트레팔지로 제작한 봉투에는 체험적 기억을 의미하는 메모지등과 희망의 메시지인 동시에 유기체적 삶을 은유하는 팥을 넣어 전시함으로써 개인의 경험과 결합하여 봉투의 또 다른 이미지를 표현하는데 적합한 소재였다. 제작소에서 버려지는 목형(발견된 오브제)은 봉투의 원형으로써 유일 무일한 하나의 틀로써 존재하는 것을 발견했다. 이상과 같이 봉투는 일상적 소재로써 친숙한 오브제인 이를 개인적 경험의 시각에서 바라볼 수 있는 다양한 내면세계의 표현과, 인간의 삶을 표현하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 다중의 의미를 함축하는 봉투라는 오브제의 이미지를 통해 삶의 주관성과 자의식(self-consciousness)의 다양성을 표현할 수 있다는 입장에서 외형적으로 보이는 오브제 이면에 담긴 다양하고 소중한 경험의 의미를 발견하고 표현가능성을 모색하는 과정이었다. ;Every matter of our world naturally has its own function or distinguished meaning but if the matter is used as an objet its own function or meaning is changed and we can get a kind of association we have never experienced so far. A human being may grasp everything through his or her consciousness in his/her every look or experience. The purpose of this thesis is to express the inner living space of a modern man, who chooses an envelope, familiar thing which is used in everyday life, as an object through personal experience. For the purpose, I carefully examined the role and aspect of an objet which is expressed in a work of art according to the history of art, and founded them as a theoretical basis. In addition, I tried to express the inner world of a modern man through the formative distinction, function and symbolism in contents. In addition, I analyzed 7 objects of works produced through the study of effect from the material (bronze, trepal paper, iron, OHP film, plaster, polyester, paper, etc.) and the choice of technique in the basis of contents and methods of expression. The following is the assembled result of the analysis in the study. The envelope used in the study as an objet is not the ready-made as it is but the modified one. Moreover, the envelope, which is made with various material such as bronze, trepal paper, iron, OHP film, plaster, polyester, paper, and so on, is was chosen for the way of installation according to psychological expression of space along with the size of the contents, the way of arrangement, and the concept of space. Dozens of envelopes, which are delicately constructed in the form of the real envelope sealed with decoration string for the document, express individual living attitude, separation with a neighbor, apathy, depersonalization, human isolation and so on with the pattern of simple repetition at regular intervals in the installation. An envelope, which is made with some semitransparent OHP film and is put into an acryl box, shows an image like a letter, and the sense of material in semitransparent OHP film controls the fragments from indistinct memory and the envelopes, which are stored in several acryl boxes, are appropriate to reveal the trace in the limited time and trace. A work showing two masses of relief and intaglio, which is casting a bundle of real envelopes, represents the inner world or the mental state of growing mass of a modern man in the silence. Another envelope, in which is unable to put anything and is magnified in the outer frame of iron, notifies that it is impossible to express any information by writing in a big information network with the iron, basic material in the development of modern culture. As we discussed above, as a familar material which is able to be represented for the variety of human life, the envelopes express the inner world of an individual experience and human living in the modern culture with different perspective of the familar object. The study of the thesis was a process of discovering the various and important experience on the other side of the outer frame of objet and exploring the possibility of expression of the subjectivity of life and the variety of self-consciousness through the envelope.
