앙드레 쿠레주(André Courrèges) 디자인 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 1980년대 이후 복고풍에 자주 등장하고 있는 앙드레 쿠레주(André Courrèges)의 디자인을 고찰하기 위하여 1960년대 앙드레 쿠레주의 디자인 경향을 살펴보고, 이를 근거로 쿠레주의 디자인에 나타나는 조형적 특성을 연구하는데 있다. 이 과정에서 현대복식의 가치를 새롭게 인식하며 쿠레주 디자인의 미적가치 이해에 참고 자료로의 활용 및 앞으로의 복식 창조에 도움을 주고, 1960년대 그의 디자인들에서 나타난 특징과 조형미를 그 시대적 상황과 함께 살펴보며 상호간의 연관성을 찾는데 의의를 갖는다. 본 연구를 위한 앙드레 쿠레주 디자인 경향의 시기적 범위는 그가 1961년 그 자신만의 메종을 오픈한 후 디자이너로 가장 활발하게 활동하며 패션계에 화제를 모았던 1963년부터 1969년까지의 컬렉션 작품들을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 연구방법은 일반문헌과 보그(Vogue)지를 중심으로 한 국내외 패션잡지 및 인터넷 등의 시각자료를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 1960년대는 제 2차 세계대전 이후 기계기술과 풍요로움 속에 베이비 붐 세가 영 컬쳐(young culture)를 형성하여 파워(power)를 가졌던 시기였다. 또 복식은 미니멀리즘의 영향을 받아 단순한 형태를 추구하며, 적극적인 신체 노출이 이루어졌다. 일반 대중들이 공감하는 상업적 예술사조인 팝아트와 시각적 혼돈을 제시하는 옵아트도 패션에 반영되었으며, 미국과 구 소련의 우주 개발 경쟁 등의 과학기술 발달로 혁신적인 새로운 소재에 의한 디자인의 시도가 많았다. 1960년대는 영 컬쳐(young culture)에 의한 영 패션(young fashion)이 중심을 이뤘던 시기로 젊고 참신한 디자이너들의 활동이 활발했다. 디자이너 앙드레 쿠레주는 엘레강스한 무드에 젖어있던 프랑스 패션계에 무릎을 드러내는 파격적인 미니스커트를 발표하여 모드의 변혁을 이뤄냈으며, 오트 쿠튀르 시대에서 프레타 포르테 시대로 넘어가는 모드의 대중화에 기여했다. 그리고 그가 창조한 쿠레주 룩은 지금까지도 많은 디자이너들의 영감의 원천이 되고 있다. 1960년대 앙드레 쿠레주의 디자인 경향을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 그는 1965년 발표한 미니스커트와 더불어 팬츠 슈트의 대중화를 이끌어 냈으며, 무릎 노출과 서구 복식사상 처음 배꼽을 노출한 판탈롱 룩으로 현대패션에 혁명을 가져왔다. 특히 미니스커트와 슬림(slim)한 라인의 팬츠는 복식의 미니멀리즘(minimalism)을 대표했으며, 모더니티의 정수를 이루었다. 이와 더불어 스포티하고 기능적인 경향이 강한 디자인들을 통하여 종래의 여성다움으로 생각했던 우아함, 고귀함 등의 개념을 무시하고 활동적이고 경쾌한 젊은 세대의 건강미와 젊음을 강조한 것이 특징이었다. 1960년대 앙드레 쿠레주의 디자인에 나타난 조형적 특성을 도출한 결과, 이를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 순수한 아방가르드(Pure & Avant-garde)이다. 이는 우주 시대 룩을 바탕으로 종전에 시도하지 않았던 하이테크 감각의 신소재의 사용을 특징으로 한다. 이러한 소재들은 흰색과 은색의 색채를 띠며, 미래지향적인 느낌을 준다. 둘째, 모던 스포티(Modern & Sporty)이다. 이는 불필요한 요소를 제거하여 간소화하고, 장식을 배제한 극도로 단순한 형태를 추구했으며, 스포츠웨어의 기능적인 아이템이나 디자인 요소가 도입된 자유로운 활동에 적합한 디자인을 특징으로 한다. 셋째, 경쾌한 노출(Cheerful & Reveal)이다. 여기서의 노출은 건강과 젊음을 상징하며 자연스러운 인체미를 강조한 것이다. 이는 미니스커트 등에 의한 직접노출, 시스루 소재에 의한 간접노출, 보디 피트되는 소재에 의한 신체라인의 직접노출을 시도하였다. 넷째, 역동적 유희(Dynamic & Funny)이다. 젋은 세대의 가벼움과 기계문명의 획일화에서 오는 스트레스를 유희적인 디자인들로 표현함으로써 시각적 즐거움을 준 것이다. 이는 재미있는 스타일의 안경이나 모자 혹은 스캘럽 등의 유아적 디자인의 요소들을 특징으로 한다. 그는 1960년대 이전의 패션과는 전적으로 다른 미니스커트로 대변되는 미니멀리즘과 모더니티를 지향하는 새로운 패션을 창조하며 현대패션에 커다란 영향을 끼쳤다. 앙드레 쿠레주가 시대를 초월해서 소멸하지 않는 스타일을 창조할 수 있었던 것은 하이테크의 새로운 기술문명을 바탕으로 젊은 세대의 욕구를 반영한 당시의 라이프스타일에 적합한 복식을 처음으로 제시하였기 때문이다.;Courrèges style has been showing up continuously since 1980s in the fashion world. The research period of André Courrèges design trend in this study ranges from 1963 to 1969, became he was most active, coming into the spotlight of fashion world during these periods. Moreover, amid the change in the value as a result of increased role of women in the society and the effect of minimalism, a new trend that highlights the expose of body with simple dress style and ornaments set in. In 1960s which was seen a fierce competition between USA and Ex-Soviet Union after the space development, new attempts have been made to express modern sensibility and free experimental spirit through creative and innovative materials. Young fashion led the fashion world in 1960s in which young and innovative designers played major roles. At that time, Andre Courreges design, known as Courreges Look in history, unveiled a dramatic style exposing knees in the French fashion world which had been enchanted with the elegant mood, and has provided inspiration to many designers. Amid those changes of times, Andre Courreges in 1960s pursued the simplicity in his overall design which was quintessential in modern modernism. He made pants suit popular, and brought a revolutionary shift to the modern fashion with the pantaloons look which exposed the knees and navel for the first time in the history of dress and ornaments. Specifically, mini skirts represented the minimalism in the dress and ornaments, sporty and functional designs emerged that put emphasis on the vitality, pleasantness, health, and youth, disregarding the concept such as elegance or nobility which had been considered to embody feminine beauty. Following is the artistic feature of Courreges design. First is Pure & Avant-guard. It is characterized by the simplicity that pursues innocence and purity, and the use of high tech, and use of white, silver and diversity of colors that symbolizes transparency, presenting a future-oriented avant garde style to the public who envision an optimistic future. Second is Modern & Sporty. It was created a style that adds functionality to the modern design to satisfy modern sensibility of the people at that time Third is Cheerful & Reveal. It was used the minimal dress and ornaments, see-thru materials, and others, to express both direct and indirect physical exposure in a vivid and pleasant way. Fourth is Dynamic & Funny. It was used interesting accessories or baby doll look, and intensive colors to give an impression of overcoming the monotone of mechanical civilization, and present a dynamic and vivid and playful design that symbolized youth, heralding the fashion of the future era. He created an imperishable style that went beyond the time because he figured out all indicators that reflect the social psychology of the time and presented the dress and ornaments that would be required in the future for the first time. Based on his belief that he needed to make modern clothes that met the requirement of times, he created a new fashion that pursued the minimalism and modernism different from the pre-1960 fashion, making a gigantic effect on the contemporary fashion. If we can figure out the trend of time with optimistic message for the future as a creator, rather than a designer, to forecast the future fashion, we will be able to create trend-setting fashion, not merely sticking to the old tradition of the past.
