Abstract
Prole do Be´be´ No. Brazil had been dominated by portugal for about 300 years. Thus, the important sources in the development of native Brazilian music are African and Portuguese. The most characteristic features of the African are its rigorous highly syncopated rhythm and its melodic formulas, originating in Portuguese song, found in such forms as the Batuque, Maxixe, and samba. The second(Portuguese) is dominantly melodic. Rhythmically, this music follows the movements of the text rather than conforming to dance patterns. The Modinha, Toada, and Chula are among the many forms belonging to this group. During the first decades of the 20th century Brazilian music won international recognition through an outstanding group of composers sharing a keen perception of both the national spirit and the latest trends of European composition. The most prominent in this group was Heitor Villa- Lobos(1887-1959), one of the most powerful creative forces that Latin America has produced. Extremely, prolific and imaginative, he wrote about a thousand works in all possible genres and media He combined the Brazilian fork music and European impressionism. The study of, Villa-Lobs's representitive piano work, 「Prole do Be´be´ N0.1」 was given to find out the Brazilian and impressionistic elements. In short, the characteristic features of 「Prole do Be´be´ N0.1」 were harmonic parallels, pentatonic scale, wholetone scale, modes, lyric melody line generally marked by Brazilian popular music.
